I don't think he wants to pursue Rudolph, otherwise he wouldn't be down on the depth chart. That's rubbing salt on the wound and pushing him away. The one supposedly available is Justin Fields. Perhaps I am wrong saying he wants Lamar Jackson 2...and should say he wants Justin Fields....and if not available Russell Wilson. Perhaps this was what he had wanted when Mitch was screwing it up and he hasn't wavered from that thinking.

The only thing that pushed Mason (remember I always wanted Mason to start) down the depth chart was bringing in a FA Qb, and drafting a 1st round Qb. This happens all the time....Owners, GMs, and coaches try getting better, and get worse.

I doubt that. Garrett played a role. My opinion so we don’t have to go back and forth on this. Anyway, the Steelers were surely wrong in their evaluation but I’m not surprised given our illustrious coaching staff and our fearless leader’s own evaluation skills.

So say Rudolph is better than Pickett or just stop man... Definitely don't claim objectivity otherwise...

Letting Trubisky play the second game of the 2-10 doubleheader was truly a head scratcher after the first disaster.

The thing that pushed him down the depth chart was that they didn't think he could play. That is why they worked so hard to ensure that he wouldn't play. They kept Haskins, signed Trubisky, and drafted Pickett. Hell, I'm not even sure he would have made the team if Haskins hadn't been killed.

It would have been a mistake, but they clearly had no faith in him.

Which is a pathetic indictment of Tomlin and the offensive coaching staff and their ability to adequately evaluate quarterback talent.

If that's the case they would've drafted Malik Willis, where do fans come up with this nonsense ?

Then that would be an indictment of every coaching staff in the NFL because none of the others wanted him.

Something got Mason back in the door for a Vet Minimum contract. I am assuming he had multiple offers from teams to come in at league minimum and be there 3rd string camp QB.

I don't see the Steelers paying for Russell, 39 million + 35 million.

And, I don't remember the History of Tomlin and Fields. If there was some type of history with Fields, then it could get interesting.

I am expecting the new O.C. to bring in a QB to compete in training camp.

I had no problem with the 2nd game starting Trubisky as this was his first start. Against Arizona Kenny went down and Mitch had to replace him and run the Game Plan they had built for Kenny. The 2nd game against the Patriots would have been a gameplan built for Trubisky, and he still played terrible.

Mason should have seen his 1st start in the Colts game, after Trubisky failed in the Patriots game.

While there is no doubt that Matt Canada needed to go and should have been sooner. One has to wonder if he is sitting back now and questioning why he didn't have the opportunity to start Mason. Was his offensive game plan and playbook limited by Kenny Pickett's ability or was Matt Canada's deficiencies magnified by Kenny's Y2 regression.

NO ---they let Mitch keep on playing when week in week out throwing to the other team its simple they brought in a loser because Andrew Filipponi cried for Mitch and cried now look <loser> =MITCH.Maybe Mason did struggle early on BUT look at him now he is like a superhero

True, but especially the one that drafted him, “developed” him, coached and observed him for the last several seasons.

This. Rudolph leaves and next year there is the possibility of groundhog day minus him and (Mitch
I agree with this. The second full game after a bad game and a half was the head scratcher .
