2 bad things about making the Playoffs.

Here are 2 reasons I don't want the Steelers to make the Playoffs.

1) No Hard Knocks in 2024. If Tomlin stays and the Steelers do not make the Playoffs for the 2nd year in a row, they will be eligible to be selected as the team appearing on Hard Knocks next year. I enjoy watching Hard Knocks every year, so I would love to see the Steelers on the show next year.

2) The Steelers will miss out on the 1st round of Black-Monday Offensive and Defensive Coordinator candidates. I am expecting big changes on Tomlin's coaching staff next year and want the Steelers out front on Tuesday picking up on all the recently fired former head coaches and staff this offseason.

I still want a win in Baltimore.

 

I like Hard Knocks too. I assumed teams could say no to it but another member told me that is not how it works. While I'd love watching our team on the show I feel it is a distraction to the team and not good for upcoming season.

I always feel bad for the guys getting cut. All I think about is how much $$$$ that just cost them.

I certainly understand #2 but it'd be a cold day in hell when I root for the Steelers to miss the Playoffs.

You want no playoffs -- I want playoffs - .2 reasons 1.WANT Steelers IN SUPERBOWL.2--want them to win Superbowl ---then my JOY will be complete.. don't want Steelers on Hard knocks that's embarrassing.

 

And the there’s 2005.

 

I see your point on that. I want to see them but I don't want to see them in some of those HK's situations.

 

In answer to that, from an old line in a debate long ago (rephrased for intended purpose). "About 2005, I watched Bill Cowher, I know Bill, MT you are no Bill Cowher." lol, while I want this team to get into the PO, simply because yes there is indeed a chance, this team is not the 2005 team. As for the 2 reasons stated in the OP, dude if we have sunk THAT far, then indeed we are more of the 80's Steelers than many believe.

 

If our defense was 100% healthy we could be dangerous but just like in a 7 game series in Baseball, in the playoffs our poor center and left tackle play would eventually come to roost and even though Mason is doing his best now I'm not sure a Dilfer type QB for the playoffs is enough to win. The great offensive explosive teams would decimate our current defense.

Correct, Don't get me wrong, I will still be rooting for the team to win in Baltimore, but I am just pointing out 2 bad things about making the Playoffs.

We will not get our 1st choice of OC's, and we will not be eligible for Hard Knocks.

what's bad about--- not--- making Hard Knocks to me that would be a good thing. Anyway, if we do win and get to playoffs I would probably want our 2 OC to still be it.But we do need a better def coaching scheme soooooooo.

Pretty much my thoughts. Dilfer had a great defense that season. To his credit he did a great job in the SB and to show their appreciation they let him go after that. We'd have to have 100% on D for sure.

We were the last team to beat the Ravens that year in a defensive struggle. Final score was something like 10-7 or close to that.

 

Maybe I am old school....but from my perspective there is nothing bad about making the playoffs - that is the whole point of the season.

 

I agree. And I could never hope the Steelers lose any game to get a better draft pick. I have never rooted against my football or baseball team.

 

Maybe the Pirates can make hard knocks for eternity but don't want Steelers on it.even though I know pirates play baseball they could make an exception-- because they suck forever.

 

I’m a lot less harder on Tomlin if making the playoffs. No matter how bad things are, you get it, things happen. U got a shot.

 

Yeah and now you can't play Defense like that so your offense has to be explosive. I just don't trust our line play particularly center and left tackle and then our defense in the middle will be exploited badly I think. For some reason we suck in the zone in the middle when JPJ hands off his guy to a nobody we are getting cooked.

 

I’m a now guy. If we struggle all season to get where we are now with a chance to win this game and get to the playoffs. We have accomplished the first part of our goal. I could care less about this or that happening in the draft. That all changes in a heartbeat. Sit back relax and enjoy the rest of the season watching the Steelers.
