what should we do with some of these fringe vets after the season?

eric rowe. he has been playing pretty well for only being here a short while.

okrafor. to big of contract to keep around? cook is said to be looking pretty good in practice.

allen robinson. silently playing well. nothing to write home about but has a vet presence in that room.

myles jack. hasn't looked terrible. maybe as a backup so he can stay healthier.

do we retain any of these guys?

I think it was HACK that said, 'Basically, everybody is on a one-year 'show me' contract except for watt, minkah, and highsmith,

Chuks need to be traded or cut

I wanted Eric Rowe in the draft. You keep him he is making plays!

Myles Jack will go back to the couch. I feel they will have a healthy Roberts and Holcomb. I would resign Alexander.

Montravios Adams should not be back. He will be a FA. Unless he takes the minimum. He is just average and they need to upgrade.

I’d let Chuks walk. $10 million is too much for him.

I like Rowe and Jack on vet minimum deals.

is Allen Robinson under contract for 2024?

Rowe may have intercepted a pass, but he wasn't good against the Bengals. He missed tackles and he was often out of position. I thought he was better against Seattle, which makes sense. I wouldn't mind signing him to a prove-it deal for next season.

Jack hasn't been bad, but a lot depends on the health of the other inside linebackers. I assume Roberts will be fine for next year, but I'm not so sure about Holcomb after that sort of injury. Alexander's health is also a question, and he is a free agent. I would rather have Alexander than Jack, but only if he is healthy. Is Jack going to want to return to compete for a backup spot?

Okorafor is too expensive to keep as a backup. Time for him to move on.

Robinson is under contract for 2024. I would keep him. He isn't close to what he was early in his career, but he's still useful.

Assuming Alexander is ready to go for training camp, I would love to see them bring him and Golden back if they can keep them at similar rates. Sullivan has played better after a rough start and is probably worth keeping. Killebrew is invaluable on special teams. I assume they will keep Kuntz.

Rudolph is an entirely separate discussion at this point. The rest can go unless they want to sign for very little money.

Chuks and Robinson are due a lot of money next year and are easy cut candidates, you would keep them as depth ideally but they are earning far too much for that.

Mitch and Mason Cole will be cut, Patrick Peterson is due $7m so he may be back, but not on that contract.

Another big question is Cam Heyward, due to earn $16m. They need to get that number down and could easily extend him if he wants to play on, but they need to be careful given his age.

The good news is that they are in a relatively good cap situation and ca clear a lot of money without hurting the team badly but the roster is still a bit thin looking in places. They had a good draft in 2023 and they need to keep that going

I wouldn't be surprised if Peterson plays at or near that number. He looked bad early, but he has played extremely well later in the season. Maybe they move on from Kazee and use Peterson full time at safety in his place.

Possibly, but it’s a lot of money for his age. 2024 was set up as an option year for the team, I don’t think they expected to be keeping him beyond 2023.

If he can contribute as a starting safety the salary is ok however.

They likely restructure his contract if he opts for one more year. With $16M of his $22M hit being base salary they could convert, say, $12M to signing bonus and add two void years. That would bring his cap number down to $14M next year with $8M in dead money in 2025 when he retires. (Of course they could declare it post June 1st and make it $4M in each of 2025 & 26.)

I think Peterson can extend his career moving to safety and he said something similar recently

    Similar to Woodson

Yes, I dont see too many big extensions to come in the near future so they will probably be comfortable doing it that way.

Robinson will cost around 12 million in CAP space, 2 million dead cap if cut. I agree he is useful, I guess the key question, is he that useful? I think 10 million is guaranteed sometime in April, so likely they will try and do something before that. May just pay it, or restructure it so they can split it out over a void year. I'd try and keep him but not at 12 million.

I heard Peterson say that when he gets moved to safety its time to retire but he also said he likes the position.

I know the guys your talking about have already been around. But makes me wonder about the ones we gave up on. Than blossomed under different coaching staffs. "It's a fine fix were in Ollie" !

Personally I would keep Kazee. He is signed through 2024. With the injuries he is a vet who knows the system. He is a hitter and the league doesn't like it. I do. Got a bad rap being suspended. I don't know if they would use Peterson full time at safety.

If they keep Kazee it should be as a backup, I didn't think he played well when he had to start.

More recently, Peterson has changed his tune and said he would be willing to make the switch so he can keep playing.

Kazee has trouble staying healthy and there is the threat of further suspension. I could see them moving on for those reasons.

Peterson would be a FS though, right? Don't we need a SS to play opposite Minkah?
