No. Hanratty has 2 rings- but he played in several games, even starting one, in the 1974 season, and he played in Super Bowl X as well in the 1975 season. These are guys who were on the team's roster all season (active roster, not taxi or practice squads) but never played in a regular or post season game- but picked up Super Bowl rings not once, but twice. Both players did play in games for the Steelers in other seasons, just not the Super Bowl seasons.

I have a lot of good trivia for this thread, rest assured.

Yes, he did. To make it clear- these are TWO Steelers players who have rings for Steelers Super Bowl victories, not Steelers players who played for other franchise's Super Bowl championship teams.

Stoudt is correct. Staley is not- he got a ring for the Super Bowl win over Seattle though, but he played in games that season. The other guy is from the two more recent Super Bowl champions.

Nope, you missed one- Arnold Harrison. He was on the roster in 2005, but never got into a game. in 2008, he went on IR. He played in 28 games total in 2006, 2007, and 2009. But not a down on the field in 2005 or 2008.

However he still got a ring for each season. Nice work if you can get it.

Arnold was a LB who played on special teams. OK, since I answered my own question- does that make me eligible to ask this next one?

If so, let this one be easier.

Who is the only Heisman trophy winner to play in a regular season game for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

I'm not logged in here all the time, Myron, so I just saw this. You were right on Lattner. The only other Heisman winner ever to be Steelers property was Troy Smith.

can you define the question better? what do you mean by replaced? Was he on the Steelers when it happened? Ed Brown for example replaced GEorge Blanda on the Bears and then Bobby Layne on the Steelers.

I'm going to guess a guy a former Steeler QB named Ed Brown who I think played with Bobby Layne and Johnny Unitas. But I'm not sure he replaced either of them.

no, to clarify a little bit-

I am asking for the player who scored the Steelers first points in a sudden death overtime period in a regular season game.

Here is an odd bit of trivia about Hanratty...

Few may know that the Steelers made slight changes in the jersey design prior to the 1975 season. The style and spacing of the lettering was altered. So were the numbers. The most noticeable change was to the number 5. Prior to 1975, the five looked like this:

Notice the hook. That hook was removed and replaced with a straight, right angle for the 1975 and thereafter:

However, one player, for whatever reason, still had the "hook" 5 for the 1975 season: Hanratty. For whatever reason, hs uniform number that season did not match the rest of the team. Check here for this brief appearance in Super Bowl X and you can see it:
