I would say there is no friggin way that we repeat what Denver did to acquire Wilson. If we do, that would really signal the end times

Sean Peyton has coached him to play to his strengths instead of Russell trying to do it all. Therefore, he's had somewhat of a bounce back year. That said, I agree with previous posts. Hard pass.

No, but what's Denver going to do with that insane contract. 85 million dead cap, cap hell until 2026 where you coul get out with 31 million no thanks .

even if they got him for a 4th round pic, the his cap hit alone (as stated above) is insane.

Yes, he is still a decent QB and that is better than what we have. The jury obviously being out on Mason since he has not been given a 2 seasons to perform, but only spot duties. But Wilson is certainly much much better than Kenny and Mitch.

Any team that doesn’t have a franchise QB will be linked with Wilson over the coming months. That is what the modern day click bait media does

There is no way he is joining the Steelers. They won’t want him and I doubt he and his celebrity wife will want to live in Pittsburg.

If he thinks Denver fans are tough then he’s going to fold like a wet suit in Pittsburgh. MT may coddle him but he will get an earful from others if he doesn’t perform

Consider the source how would anybody know if the Steelers are interested in Wilson right now?

He needs to go somewhere where he can be re-born as a QB.

He's not Mr. Scramble guy anymore.

Someone can use his experience and use the players around him to make plays. It doesn't have to be all him.

Steelers have the surrounding cast, but no one that knows how to use them.

So he wouldn't fit perfectly here.

Absolutely NOT! No Russell Wilson, no Justin Fields. I’d rather let Pickett and Rudolph fight it out in camp next year than sign either of those guys.

Lol that's nothing compared to the dilemma that Cleveland is going to be in.

The cap hit wouldn't be bad for the Steelers. It would be $17M in 2024, and then $37, $40, $44, and $50M the following years. The bigger cap hits roughly coincide with Pickett's second contract and would be less than what he would get (ASSUMING that he would pan out and be the franchise QB they hoped when they drafted him), so those numbers should be in their long range projections and might actually be slightly favorable.

But the key is that absolutely none of that money is guaranteed, so they could release him at any point and recapture all of the cap space with no penalty (dead money). What they could do if he is worthy is restructure him in 2025 and guarantee a chunk of the future money and add a Void Year at the end and dump some money there. For example, in 2025 they could restructure and give him a $50M bonus which would be spread out over 5 years (remaining 4 plus void year) with the remaining $121M (non guaranteed money) being distributed over the 4 remaining years and paid out in escalating amounts....say $15M, then $25M, then $35M, then $46M.

His cap hit then be $17M, $25M, $35M, $45M, $56M, $10M (void year). Those are very manageable numbers, especially the first 3 years.
You could then release or trade him after year 3 after June 1st and only incur two years of $15M in dead money. Also, in year 3 if he's working out, you could restructure again and push a lot more money out into the void year, freeing up space in years 4 and 5. After that he's likely to retire and you'd have a significant dead money hit in 2029, the void year. But if he can win you a championship or two, it'd be worth it.

Basically, with Denver taking all of the big guaranteed money hit already, the remaining contract is very workable.

There's only two questions that need to be answered
    1) what does it take to get him?
    and
    2) can he still play?

I would rather bring Big Ben back in and throw him into training camp than have Wilson. He is not a grinding type Pittsburgh kind of guy. He is to preppy and into fashion with his pretty wife tied on his side! I want someone mean as hell and ready to get dirty!

Only thing on Wilson's mind nowadays is balling his sweet, smokin a$$ wife and the spending of his bajillions. A mentality which, as the evidence suggests, is mutually exclusive with balling in the NFL.

Jeremy Fowler is a credible reporter,so we will see I guess, but I still not want Wilson...But what are the others option if the steelers give up on Pickett?

Well it depends on whether its signing or trading. Wilson appears to be an option but would bring a hefty price tag. Kyler Murray is another trade option that would be expensive, but less so than Wilson. Fields appears to be talked about if Chicago takes a QB in the draft this year. He would be considerably cheaper than the other two and would be less of a forced time investment. As for the FA market, we would be looking at the likes of Cousins/Tannehill/Brissett/Winston/Mayfield/Minshew/Browning. All of these options are varying levels of better than Pickett, but not sure any of them are truly long term options (Mayfield and Browning would be the only ones that could potentially be a longer term option).

This is why the QB position is so tough. There really aren't top end options that become available outside of the draft, and the draft is a complete crapshoot. Even top 10 picks aren't guaranteed to be good as QB has the highest bust rate of any position. Sometimes you pick Aaron Rodgers, but most of the time you pick duds like Pickett or Zach Wilson/Dwayne Haskins/Sam Darnold, etc.

Please no. We don't need to sign an old man at quarterback that might be washed up and will set the position back another 4 years. If they go with a free agent, I hope it's someone that at least has 5-6 more years of good football ahead of them.
