I think he was like 20 years before his time!...If he would have played in the current NFL, I think he would have been great...The video below is one of his best games, but unfortunately he had been bad against the same broncos team in the AFC title game....Losing Gailey after the 1997 season had hurt Kordell too

I remember that game well. That AFCC game stung. Could he been so different had Gailey just ran the Bus inside the 5.

Today’s rules he would have been just as good as Lamar Jackson. His biggest downfall though was to demand giving up his Slash role which in the end amounted to nothing spectacular.

I was watching some stuff from his days as slash, he really was very good. I honestly do not know if he could have been a great WR, but I think his versatility and athletic ability alone would have made him a superstar for many years. Going through as many OC's did not help, but bad career choice.

He was inaccurate, inconsistent and couldn't read the defense. He was more Vince Young or perhaps RG3 than Lamar Jackson. LJ has a much better arm than Kordell. Kordell got drafted high because of his athleticism and that one hail mary throw.

In Kordell’s first year or two, defenses tried to ‘contain’ him to avoid the big play. Pete Carrol decided to pressure him in the playoff game vs NE , and found the right formula. NE lost 7-6, but they showed that forcing Kordell to make quick decisions was a winning strategy. He’d get impatient and indecisive, within a year or two he was a borderline starter. Kordell was athletic, but Lamar is way more so, and a far better passer. Lamar responds much better to pressure.

I hope he would’ve been as good as LJ, but I have my doubts.

maybe in a good offensive system they could’ve utilized his speed and mobility - he’d be the fastest QB in the league that’s for sure.

I think he would made a great WR.At QB his vision downfield and ready the complex D's in seconds sometime you don't even have that.
    I don't know

I don't think he had the arm talent that Lamar has. Might be smarter. Tough to tell at this point. Lamar gives the NFC fits. Not sure that's the best style for AFCN.

I think he would have been very good in this era and potentially great in that era had Cower tried to create a scheme to enhance his skill set instead of trying to curtail and rein it in on a shortened leash.

Cower also wanted to cage young Ben too, but Ben didn’t listen. Ben was more prototypical and there didn’t need to be much changing other than take the chains off and open up the book. Stewart needed a new path cut and Cower didn’t want that project.

I cant prove it here now, but I said all of this a LOT back then to anyone who’d listen because I 1) liked what I saw in him and 2) no other team was scheming for his gifts and definitely not designing defences against it if - IF IF IF - he was allowed to spread his wings. Yeah, he wasn’t a prototypical pocket passer. He was more.

I actually thing Cower ruined him. He did little if anything to help him develop. That kind of player was beyond his football imagination and might as well have been a Marshion.

My favorite Cowher-Kordell interaction - "Kordell, get in there and punt."

Cowher won a Super Bowl in Ben's second year. You're saying that is because Ben didn't listen? Kordell just wasn't that good.

They also didn't have a dedicated QB coach for him early.

Really? I think he had comparable arm talent. He made some crazy throws while going to the ground many times. It just wasn't the same game then and they only had him reading half a field.
Underrated was his durability and he trucked some defenders when he ran.

I don't think it's even close, arm talent wise.

Thing I remember the most about Kordell was a freezing cold winter night in Boston and him coming out of the tunnel looking way to nervous IMO. 2002??? I know Bledsoe was their guy but maybe that other guy started his career that night. Can't recall.

Kordell had a better playoff record (2-2) than Lamar has (1-3).

Kordell Stewart at QB, I want to forget. I've gone to great extremes to erase that from memory.
Kordell Stewart at Slash, was a lot of fun.

Probably so. I’m guessing LJ will be 2-4 in the postseason after this season. Their defense is probably the best in the NFL, and that is tremendously helpful for his W-L record.

It help big time but don't forget that the ravens offense have close to 30 PPG since Lamar is the starter and for this year, the ravens had several injuries on offense like Mark Andrews and the ravens continue to score many points

The only thing Lamar need to be better is the playoffs, since in the regular season he has been great in his career...57-19 overall

Chalk me up as an “I’ll believe it when I see it” doubter of LJ’s ability to lead a team to a championship. He’s great when all of the pieces are there around him, and when his defense keeps him out of must-pass situations. He’s a regular season dynamo, but so far has been little more than a pop gun in the playoffs.

    Defenses have gotten more complex

    Kordell would have been worse

He light have been able to try it at WR

I admit to being a hater, but other than his ability to run, I see nothing special about Jackson. And even at that, I don’t see him doing anything Wilson wasn’t doing 10 years ago. And probably Randall Cunningham before that. So many go gaga over mahomes and Jackson, but they aren’t doing anything that hasn’t been done before.

It doesn't matter, it's the results that count....The Ravens are like 27-30 PPG since Lamar Jackson was the starter(57-19 as starter too) and you're going to have an elite running game with him, no matter what....And he's very respectable as passer

The only thing he's missing is success in the playoffs but that could change this year....We'll see but I remember a lot of Steelers fans didn't want to give credit to Joe Flacco after his legendary 2012 playoff run, so some people are really stubborn in their opinion no matter what
