I am glad that Rudolph is starting. He deserves it. The last game was probably the best quarterbacked game we've had in 2 calendar years. Was it perfect? No. Do I think Mason is magically a great QB now? No. But he deserves to be the starter for this one. Tomlin usually doesn't allow people to lose their starting job due to injury, but he can still "monitor Kenny" and save face. In all honesty Kenny is pretty darn close to losing his job due to performance, so why not give the one QB we've had for the past 2 years show the ability to actually get the ball into the endzone a shot?

To be fair, it's not as easy to know how often it happens that a player thanks God for setbacks, since usually players who lose or who have played like crap and were benched don't usually get a lot of press. The way Mason speaks of his faith, I'm certain that he views the dark times that he was put through as a gift, as well, for it has given him strength through adversity. I don't think there was anything particularly problematic with Mason wanting to thank God, regardless. I mean, if he genuinely feels grateful for his life and feels that it is only through God's grace that he is here to experience it at all, then everything will look like a gift from God, and I think that's a beautiful thing. Honestly, I wish more people of even the slightest faith would express it like Mason did. This world is so gray with moral ambiguity and people living their lives through the dull lens of existentialism-by-default.

That's the thing. He can throw the ball deep. He hasn't tried nearly enough this season. I am certain they got him to the point that he is too risk-averse, which contributes to the lack of deep throws and bailing on the pocket rather than letting it rip.

He does. I don't remember Pickett doing that very often.

I'm not a Christian, but yeah, I imagine G-d has better things to do, too.

How about just offering thanks for the strength to face the challenges of the day and the good fortune to come through them healthy?

You're joking, right? The 17th-year head coach is afraid to be honest with the second-year quarterback. That's what you are going with?

With Pickett it's the happy feet and hitches. The more moving parts, the greater the chance for a breakdown in mechanics and a poor pass.

I completely interpreted Mike Tomlin's presser differently than the media so I'm assuming that means I'm wrong. But Tomlin said Pickett is about in the same place health wise as this time last week and that for now Rudolph is starting in practice, but we're going to examine Pickett later in the week. To me that's saying: If Pickett is healthy enough to play, he's going to play. No where in his presser did Tomlin say that Rudolph is starting next Sunday.

I am sure he can throw it deep, but is it accurate. Analogy, almost anyone who plays basketball can hit the rim from three point line. Only a select few can score a three pointer on a regular basis with defenders in their face. Those who cannot, rarely try unless they are desperate and they miss most of the time they try. Mason in this analogy has been successful from three points throughout his college career and is a specialist. Pickett, not so much.

Ambiguity in things of this nature is always necessary strategic element (God, now I'm even talking like Tomlin:lolol:). No coach worth his salt would ever take a situation like this and not muddy the waters for as long as possible. The Seahawks probably understand that Mason is starting, but because of how Tomlin worded things, they're still gonna have to spend time studying at least some of Kenny's tape, and possibly even Trubisky's.

Why am I mentioning Trubisky, given his recent benching and lack of mention at the press conference? It's because I think Tomlin's bit about monitoring Kenny's readiness isn't about whether or not Kenny's going to start - unless Mason gets injured this week at practice, there's a 99.9% chance that he's going to start - but, rather, it's about whether or not he's healthy enough to be QB2. Tomlin would clearly prefer to have Kenny ready at the wings (ala the game where Landry Jones started and Ben was actually QB2 bc of injury but eventually got called into the game) than Trubisky - however that's not actually a given. If Kenny ISN'T ready to be QB2 this week, then it would be interesting to see if Trubisky is QB2 and if McSorley is QB3, or if Tomlin might take a risk with McSorley.

Either way, there's just no chance Kenny starts the game this week, regardless. The Seahawks know this, Mason knows this, Kenny knows it, the rest of the team knows it - it's just a matter of Kenny being healthy enough to back Mason up.

This one. Looks like 51 air yards (released at the 14 and caught at the 35). I’d read in one article 55.3 air yards is what they’d measured it at. At any rate, the point remains that it’s tough to be be pinpoint accurate with a throw of over 50 yards.

This article says the ball traveled 55.7 air yards from release point to catch point.

As soon as Pickett is able to play on that ankle he will be starting. Only people making this a QB controversy is the fans. Pickett hasn’t lost his job.

Hopefully, he’ll learn a few things watching Mason. One thing is for sure, if you want to be the franchise quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, you’ve got to be able to chug it deep (see Bradshaw, Terry and Roethlisberger, Ben). We Steeler fans demand it! If you want to dink and dunk it, go play quarterback for the Pats or Niners, lol.

I am mostly going by what I saw in college since they have avoided it so consistently the last season and a half. Maybe he can't do it, but we won't know for sure unless Tomlin takes the shackles off and Pickett regains the swagger he had when he first took over.

Any franchise quarterback has to be able to throw deep. Otherwise, it's just too easy for defenses to focus on taking away the short stuff. That is why I think the coaching staff has done such a poor job with Pickett.

I agree, Kenny hasn’t lost his job yet. MT is doing his best to shut down the QB controversy. However, if Kenny continues on this plateau he will be hearing the boo-birds at fan cheers for Mason. I hope we are able to bring back Mason next year. I have a feeling his off-season is going to be interesting.

I don’t see Mason being a Steeler next year

If he sucks in the next two games the Steelers should not sign him

If he plays well in the next two games someone will offer him too much

And that’s all I have to say about that

Yeah, I tend to agree. If he has other viable options on the table I’m not sure he’d even want to come back. I really think his career could have been managed better and he could’ve gotten more of a fair shake in Pittsburgh.
