Shouldn’t even be a debate at this point and I’m honestly surprised that Pickett has 7 votes so far.

Pickett was playing well below average all season. Overall he’s played poorly the first two years of his career other than some 4th quarter magic. He’s had one game this season where he was above the line and that was the first Bengals game and even in that game he failed to throw a TD as he does in most games and only produced 16 points. I’ve been a Pickett supporter since he was drafted but my optimism had waned significantly. I saw this stat earlier and it was pretty telling…

Mason Rudolph has appeared in 19 games in his career, with only 11 starts. He has 18 TDs in his career. Kenny Pickett has 13 TDs in 25 games & 24 starts.

I don't think any of that is going to matter. Good game for Mason, but the team long ago made their decision on him. I think they start Kenny if he is healthy, and I agree with it. They invested a 1st round draft pick and they have to play it out. That means starting him next week if he is healthy and him being the QB1 day one of training camp. Doing anything else would be a vote of no confidence that he and the team would see. I think they give him all of next year and if the improvement is not there, they will look for another QB, but until then, they are going to fully support Kenny.

I was commenting during the game to my family how Mason not only made a great effort on that run he put himself in harm's way to get enough to extend to get 1st down.

I read that Tomlin was close to benching him after the Browns game so I wouldn’t be so sure that Pickett starts over Mason. We scored 34 points last night! Think about that. We had a QB throw for nearly 300 yards and 2 TDs. That’s incredible! Our QB actually used the best weapon we have on offense and he averaged nearly 50 YPC! Mason has earned another start. Kenny has not earned the right to be firmly entrenched as QB1. Tomlin can massage any decision to start Mason by saying that Kenny is not at 100% and it’s not likely he will be with the kind of injury he had.

If you project that out, Mason would have nearly 40 TD passes with the same number of starts Kenny’s had. Wow is right.

Mason. He didn't play scared like the other two. His inability to run forces him to stand and deliver.

He’s plenty mobile enough though. He may not be as mobile as Kenny or Mitch, but he’s not a statue in the poket.

This right here. The decision by the Bengals coaching staff to play a lot of man on Pickens with (too late) single high safety help was game breaking for us. I do need to rewatch the 44 yard gain to see if Awuzie was playing off-man or blew a Cover 3 assignment, but overall it was a bad defensive game plan by the Bengals. Before the game I had said that we should throw several deep balls down the sideline since that’s Rudolph’s strength. He sure as hell delivered on those, and Pickens was uncoverable in man coverage. When I said that I was expecting some contested catches, not the gift of constant man coverage.

Rudolph played a really nice game overall, but the big plays were more about Pickens killing the Bengals coverage than anything else.

There’s a lot of discussion about the decisions that the team needs to make at the QB position, and rightly so. We also have to figure out the Pickens situation this offseason. His raw talent is undeniable and game-breaking, but the attitude issues are likely to resurface whenever he’s “not getting his.” Also, he’s still not a polished receiver overall. Last night was great, but he’s not always going to have the benefit of single coverage vs. a rookie and a beatable vet like Awuzie.

    True.
He didn't need to run yesterday because he didn't panic.

I know this will seem simplistic and common sense, but you play whoever is playing better. Therefore, MT will start KP. JMO>

If KP starts, chances are he will struggle and team will get deflated real quick knowing Mason should be starting. Tomlin will then bench KP. His career with Steelers as a starter is then done. It actually might be good for Pickett if Mason starts.

I say you let Pickett heal one more week and play Mason. If Mason plays well again, you stay with him until next year. In the offseason, you get rid of Mitch and beg Mason to resign for two more years with the promise of an open and honest and fair QB competition in training camp.

Kenny is not going to be “Fully Healthy” for quit a while so the question is mute

He may be “Cleared to Play”

Let him heal he has nothing to gain in these last two games

As stated above putting him in will kill moral for the rest of the team

You definitely aren't the only two. I always felt like Mason got a raw deal with us. He's easily better than Mitch and it's not close. I don't know if he's starter material or if he's better than Pickett, but I want to see more. He deserves another start. He played better last night than Pickett ever has, and Mason missed a few throws I'm sure he will make with more reps and more playing time.

The best thing for Rudolph's career is to have Tomlin play Pickett the last 2 games. Everyone in the league last impression of Rudolph is the excellent game he played yesterday and he will have a job somewhere in the NFL for a few more seasons. If he starts at Seattle and has a bad game then everyone will think the Bengals game was just a fluke and hurt his stock for next year.

I was actually calling for Rudolph weeks ago when it looked like Pickett may be out with a rib injury.
