I think only half of this equation has any chance of happening but the writer makes a compelling case as to why the Steelers should look at both. I don't know if Russ would want to come back here, didn't leave on the best of terms but we do have a position to fill and our line was pretty good under Russ. Firing Haley and hiring Whiz is not very likely though.

I would love for them to bring Grimm back. Whiz not so much. Haley deserves a second season.

First, I can't see Whiz coming back. The taste was WAY too poor in his mouth as he WANTED THIS job and didn't get it.

Second, I would love to see Grimm back, but my guess is he doesn't have a chance at being here as he has no working relationship with Tomlin.

Third, I don't see a new OC unless Haley decides he wants to go. If he does, and there are 7 jobs out there for him, I don't think we step back to anyone who has been with us in the past.

I would look at Hue Jackson as a possible OC as well as Norv Turner.

When it comes to Offensive line coach, I think we should look at Joe D'Alessandris. He is from Aliquippa, PA originally. He also has some experience working with Haley in 09 in KC.

I brought this up in the gameday thread on sunday. If this all happened last season, whiz may have ended up back here in pittsburgh. I think Ben would have been more open to this than having Haley. But I think Haley deserves to have a second season. But i'd love to have Grimm back. He was a great coach, and the o-line loved him. But he didnt leave on the best of terms, and I doubt he would want to return and serve as the o-line coach under the guy who was picked over him for the head coaching job here. Plus the rumor mill has Buffalo really liking Ken Whisenhunt, and I think Grimm follows whisenhunt there if he lands the head coaching job for the Bills.

I agree that firing Haley won't happen but reading this piece of the article does make you scratch your head a bit

"In 2012, Haley's offense ranked 21 in the NFL in total offense, averaging just over 330 yards per game. The Steelers were also 26 in rushing offense in Haley's first season at helm.
The previous year, Arians' offense ranked 12 in the league and averaged over 40 more yards per game. His offense in Indianapolis, where the 11-5 Colts are headed to the playoffs, ranks 10 this season. Not bad for a guy who wasn't doing enough to remain with a Super Bowl contender."

I was just coming on here to say that, Grimm will go where Whiz goes unless he is offered a HC position himself somewhere. I figured Whiz would get another HC position but there was some speculation on whether he would or not this soon.

Why does Haley "deserve" a second season? It might be fair to give him another year to prove himself, but what does he deserve by producing an offense, with a franchise quarterback, that ranked towards the worst in the league?

'De' is latin meaning 'from.' 'Serve' = service. You get what you deserve based on the service you provide. He didn't give us much, why does he deserve more in return?

Not to nitpick, but saying Haley "deserves" anything doesn't sit well with me. Our offense was horrid this year and the only people defending him are just trying to save face from lobbying so hard for him during the offseason.

Haley wasn't dropping catchable balls and fumbling like it was his job and he wasn't injuring our o-linemen. He has had 16 games to prove himself and 3.5 of them were with 2nd and 3rd string QBs and who knows how many of the other 12.5 games were with a starting QB that wasn't 100%.

You are nitpicking when you break down the Latin meaning of a word. Just sayin'.

It's arguable that Ben was having an MVP type year before his injury and spreading the ball all over the place which kept the defense off balance. Heck, his playaction was looking better than it has since since his rookie season when he came in tearing up the league. Then all the injuries to the O-Line, dropped passes due to lack of concentration (MW), a rotating backfield either due to tomlins benching for fumbleitis or Dwyer being too out of shape to go 3 downs in a row. Put all that up against starting in horrible field position due to ST's blundes and there is no way he doesn't deserve a second chance. Get some players to stay healthy, a QB that buys into his system and he will probably be very successful. Trust me, the Rooneys didn't hire him beause of who he is it is because of what he knows. There are tens of thousands of relatives to the NFL out there that never would be able to make it to that level. Heck I think he deserves at least 3 years to tell the truth. You can't just go in and expect big changes without growing pains.

I will say that I will always hate the 3rd and 2 call down at the goal line in the Bengals game but for all we know, Ben may have said this is how BA and I ran it in those situations. (sarcasm)....... (maybe)

Wait a minute. Wiz jumped before a decision was made on the head coach, I am not sure we want him back, got his panties twisted and took off running. Showed up in the 2008 SB and got spanked.

Yep, he saw the writing on the wall and bolted. I don't think he is really over it.

When Arians was winning a Super Bowl and coaching in the playoffs year in and year out with an awful o-line and Ben missing a quarter of the season either due to suspension or injury, it was on Bruce.

When Haley sucks balls harder than Jena Jameson, it's all about player execution, Ben's injuries (he looked healthy running Arians' offense in SF last year on one foot, right?), and an injured o-line (that is still better than the o-line we won XLIII with #hartwig).

Fascinating stuff these Haley apologists come up with.

Why does everyone keep saying that Ben was some God before his injury as if he was terrible after?

His first two games back after his injury were his 3rd and 4th highest yardage totals on the season.

Half of his games before his injury were against some of the worst pass defenses in the NFL (Washington, Tennessee, Oakland, NY Giants). Is that when he was "spreading the ball all over the field" and "looking like an MVP?"
His biggest game of the year was against the 26th-rated pass defense in the NFL (Tennessee).
His second-best game was against the 20th-rated pass defense in the NFL (Oakland).
Those are two pretty bad teams.
Two games against 'good' pass defenses were two teams that packed it in this year (NY Jets and Philly).

Haslam might have Cleveland becoming the new Arizona (taking all of our castoffs).

Imitation is the sincerest form . . .

The defense were the ones winning the super bowls not Arians bubble screens, Reason Bubble head is doing so well in Indy is because Luck has a brain, he listens, and studies film. Everything Ben isn't and doesn't do.

Oh, right. I forgot about the 4th-quarter comeback where Polamalu hit Hampton in the corner of the end zone as Lebau called all the right plays. Thanks for the reminder.

This stuff is hysterical the lengths that people will go to discredit BA and Ben. I have to tip my cap to BA, he did a heck of a job, they are in the playoffs and we aren't.

I blame lebeau.. He shut the team down by playing man 2 man,, 2nd half he went into zone coverage, that's how the cards came back.. Same thing happened this year 49er's vs the Cheats.. 49'ers were owning them while playing man2man, 49'ers went into zone coverage and the cheats came back on them

In all fairness that bubble screen was used just as much this season as it ever was and the results were about the same as they've always been too. I'm convinced every OC just throws that in to the mix to stall and buy time until they figure out what play they really want to call.

no, it's used when you can't run the ball and you don't have to worry about slow linemen trying to get out on a normal screen. you are correct though we used it alot this year too.
