100% agree with this...But at this point, I prefer to take a chance since the Steelers need a change. It was also my point

This, my friends, is the true definition of "living in your fears". If we follow this logic, might as well crown MT now and get it over with.

I'm not downplaying what he's done for us, but he has lost this team. It's time to move on.

Greenberg is a Jets fan so the Steelers look amazing compared to a loser organization like that. 3 playoff wins in 12 years with the talent that's been here is a complete disgrace. We don't know what the next coach will do but we know the current one has zero chance of taking this team near another championship. Retaining Tomlin is the ultimate fail.

Even though I’ve been fully on board with the “Tomlin must go” mantra since the 2018 collapse, I have also cautioned that the next regime could be worse.

Nonetheless, it’s definitely long overdue to take that risk and at least try to get better than this annual blah-fest that we get with MT.

Was a fan pre-noll era when it was rumored the coach said if he could get at least half of his players to the game sober they could beat anyone. Chuck kept the toughness and instilled discipline ,the rest was historical. Tomlin brought a skirt and pom poms and destroyed the Steeler reputation for toughness ,sad days for us who remember the real Steelers .

Mathematically impossible to be eliminated from playoffs after 3 games, just saying

I'd like to tell Greeny, "Look. You like Tomlin, you take him, we'll take Rob Saleh. See how Tomlin does with that idiot of an owner Woody Johnson who basically handed de facto control of the franchise to that weirdo Aaron Rodgers." Then get back to us in about three years.

‘so u rather stick with Tomlin? I’m usually not an either/or situation, but in this case it is.

all arguments are moot, and the only question is should Steelers stick with Tomlin or not?

Realistically speaking when you start 0-4 you’re only alive mathematically.

History isnt in teams favor of making the playoffs that start that poorly.

I didn’t say that at all. I was responding to the notion that fans would be ok winning 3 games.

For all of Tomlins faults, at least you had something to root for every week, the playoffs were always in reach. 3 win teams don’t have the luxury of feeling that way. What Greenberg is cautioning against is you could become the Jets.

I don’t feel Tomlin is the man for the job anymore though. Think they need to move in a new direction.

For anyone that thinks Mike Tomlin is a good coach, look at his accomplishments. Do his players show good discipline on the field? Does he bring home championship wins? Are the Steelers always in the hunt? Does he crush the teams he's supposed to crush? Failures in these areas are all leadership issues.

To me, his biggest accomplishments are winning a super bowl a long time ago, never having a losing season, and never directly throwing anyone under the bus during those press conferences when he throws out his little one-liners. That's about all I can think of.

There are definitely other coaches that are worse. But Mike tomlin's not getting the job done either. He's had the players and the setup to do it and has failed to bring any trophies home for a long time.

I lived in the Cincinnati area for over 40 years, through the golden age of Bengal futility. Then they hired Marvin Lewis and started winning more games than they lost. However, after the years passed with no playoff wins, a similar discussion took place - should they move on from Lewis or not. I heard the same arguments about the chance that his replacement could be worse, and when you've lived through Dave Shula, Bruce Coslet, and Dick Lebeau as head coaches, that is a very real fear. However, when they finally did move on and brought in Zac Taylor, they go from 2-14 in his first year to the Super Bowl in his third. Sometimes you gotta take that risk.

Yeah - it did help that they used that 2-14 record to draft Joe Burrow.

Interesting side note: Under Zac Taylor, the Bengals have won as many playoff games in the last two years (5) as they did between 1970 and 2020. Five wins in 51 seasons, with those wins being in two Super Bowl years.

I believe this is the issue with some fans that they are scared that it would take a major tail spin into losing seasons. But some times losing in the short term makes you a winner in the long term. I'm willing to find out. I feel Khan and Weidl along with Art can find the next coach. It just can't continue with the rinse and repeat stale stalemate that we have been seeing for years now.

Hire a young Innovative Offensive Head Coach that lives in the now.

To be clear, I am not disagreeing with Steelersfan43, I am disagreeing with Merriman, he has never been a Steeler, has never been in a Tomlin locker room, he has no more detail on the matter than we do.

So you are saying that if we fire Tomlin, we will only win 3 games the following season? Thats some crystal ball you have there, care to share the powerball numbers for Wednesday?

I really wonder if Tomlin already made the decision to resign or retire after this season? That could explain why they didn't extend his contract like they normally do. Also, it seems like Tomlin is just going through the motions this season and his head is somewhere else, he's even shelfed his favorite slogan "The standard is the standard". Maybe he's starting to realize how silly that sounds coming from a guy who's only won 3 playoff games in 13 years? In the NFL, the only thing that counts is winning the Super Bowl, and it's been a long time since the Steelers have even had a sniff of one
