In theory, that's when it all started to fall apart (really it was always a mirage). However, had they won the last 2 games, they'd be in great shape even with the Arizona loss.

At least they won't be on too many prime time games next year.

They're going to play NE, @ Tennessee and @ the Panthers along with the NFC East (@ Philly and @ Wash) and AFC West teams (@ LA and @ Denver). They'll host Dallas so no chance at Thanksgiving (would have just been to make a blowout win for Dallas). Put them on some random Thursday and Monday both on the road to give the home team an easy win. They get to get blown by KC at home too.

Should set up well for a good draft pick.

Steelers need to select a QB in round 1. Many other crappy teams drafting before Steelers will not be drafting QB. It's perfect timing. Steelers won't get Caleb Williams, but there are 5 other NFL ready QBs. Pickett needs some competition.

I know our chances are pretty slim to none, and I dread the just having a winning season, but I just can’t watch a game and hope the Steelers lose. I will continue to hope that by some slim chance that if we can just get into the playoffs, just maybe we will get lucky and make it to the big game.

I know that if that was to happen though, or for us to just have a winning season, that few changes would be made in 2024.

Well for anybody clinging to any kind of hope of still making the playoffs it will officially be all but over if they lose to the Bengals on Saturday and drop to 7-8. They would then be 2 games behind the Bengals, and probably 2 games behind teams like the Bills who will most likely beat the Chargers on Saturday night after the Steelers Bengals game and the Colts as well who play a mediocre Atlanta team next Sunday, and maybe even the Texans should they beat the Browns next week. If they win and get to 8-7 they would jump the Bengals based on head to head tiebreakers and then you can at least see how the games with the Colts and Texans go on Sunday but if you lose to the Bengals and drop to 7-8 that’s pretty much a wrap for any realistic chance they would still have of making the playoffs.

Williams, Mayes, Nix, Penix and Daniels are worthy of being a first rounder. Three of five will be gone after the first 10 picks. Question becomes do you draft a Daniels, Penix or Nix and put them behind this line or do you shore up the line first?

QB in round 1, Center in round 2. Upgrade at Center and RT, move Jones to LT.... and O line should be improved.

It was always a mirage you're right there. But there was still a chance the mirage would last a couple of games longer - if they end up 7-9 that's a far better reflection of this tems merit than 9-7 would have been. In reality they're a 3-5 win team on the eye test.
