"Jay Glazer is Mike Tomlin's only trusted media person and I don't think that's an exaggeration. They're friends, they hook up together and Tomlin makes no secret of this. When Glazer comes to camp, he's riding around in a cart with him. Where Glazer is concerned, the one thing I've learned over the years, is that when you hear Glazer say something about Tomlin or about the Steelers, it came from Tomlin almost without fail," said Kovacevic

This is what we really have to hope for because there is almost no chance they fire Tomlin. It’s one thing to jettison Canada under contract, quite another to do it to their HC after 17 years. If the trade doesn’t happen, good chance he finishes out his contract.

I mean, if they are willing to hire Jon Gruden then sure. Or Gruden as OC?

Any new coach likely spells the end for problem personalities like Pickens, so fans should be ready for that.

I just think it's a pipe dream to think anyone is going to give up a draft pick to get a coach that might very well be let go.

I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think even a team like Washington or Carolina is that stupid.

Did you read it? Denver just gave up a lot for Payton. It’s rare but it does happen.

Tomlin is much more highly regarded around the league than he is by the fans.

Steelers aren’t firing him which means he wont be available until 2025 so if Washington wants him sooner they’ll have to trade for him.

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is absolutely that stupid. He also owned five percent of the Steelers from 2009 until he bought the Panthers in 2018, so there is some connection to Tomlin. He knows how the Rooney family operates and he needs a coach for 2024.

Outside of Pittsburgh, Tomlin is still very well respected. I'm sure some will look at injuries as an excuse for the 2023 Steelers' collapse. Others will look at this team and think they stunk all along and only Tomlin magic had them in contention after 11 games. He still has value, but I'm not sure the Steelers would actually do it.

I think Carolina is the better fit, though they don't have a first-round pick in 2024. Instability at head coach has been a huge problem since Tepper bought the team and he needs a new one for next season. I could see him thinking Tomlin could come in and give that to them. Remember, Tomlin is only 51, so he could still be coaching for a long time.

Yes broncos did give up a lot. But payton could not coach for a couple years for a new team.

Paytons last 5 year's was 3 playoff win seasons.

Payton overall ranking 17 games .529

    Vs

Tomlin who has one year left. And zero playoff wins in the last 5 years. (Tomlin last playoff win was 7 years ago).

    Tomlin overall 17 games 0.471

If any team is dumb enough to trade for Tomlin, more power to them

I'd be happy to acquire the #4 overall pick from DC... with 2 first rounders, a lot of quality options to rebuild this thing under a new vision.

Carolina surely can’t give up more draft capital for a coach after what they gave up last year to move up to #1 in the draft? At some point they’re going to need to pick some guys in the draft and put some weapon around the quarterback.

Washington has Bieniemy already on staff and the obvious move for them is to make him HC. He has Howell leading the league in passing and we have seen how much he is missed in KC, that offence just isn’t the same since he left.

I don't see anyone mortgaging their future for him anymore. But a team that's desperate just to win SOME games could go for it. Trading keeps them out of a bidding war.

Jay Glazer has rarely been wrong in his career for the reports, so it's very possible that this is at least Tomlin's last year with us.

Made this same comment a few weeks ago. I just get a sense that Tomlin is going to resign and get away from football for a few years. Perhaps he coaches again someday.

Next Saturday by 4:30 there are going to be a lot of drunk Steeler fans and I'm guessing the boo birds and fire Tomlin brigade will be in full force. Mike might asked for a trade after the game;)

    I dunno.
Tomlin looked lost on the sidelines yesterday. This is not the same Tomlin even from 5 years ago.
His team looked undisciplined and unorganized.
    He's got players half-stepping.
In game decision making was inexplicable.
The demoralizing 12 straight run drive enroute to a game clinching TD after an inexplicable call to punt for 20 yards was humiliating.
It's been a long time since I've seen such a poor performance from a Steeler team. In the past, if you did see something close to that mess, the next game was vengeance.
This team likely will not win another game.

His post-game comments reflected a broken and disengaged shell of what he used to be.

I see no sense in pounding on the players.
It won't matter who they put behind center.
It doesn't matter who they put anywhere.
The offense is toothless. The play calls did not attack downfield, the WR's pose no deep threat. George Picken's half-hearted attempt to catch a ball he normally would snag with ease seemed to sum up the effort of this team.
They cannot sustain a drive and more often than not only appear on the field for 3 plays or less if a turnover happens.

All this seems to be coming to head as Steelers brass cold shouldered the embattled coach after the game.
It feels like the end is near - 3 more games would be my expectation as I think they will see the season through.
Course they could totally do opposite, it is their team, but the product on the field is a clear sign of failure and even the most devote supporter has to recognize that.

Mason will not be able to turn things around.
He's a Christian being thrown to the lions. Good luck Mason.

he is highly regarded, which is why we ought to be able to pawn him off. Let him GO to Wash, SOON - if they want him!

I get the feeling he is writing his resignation letter. It just seems like that is in his voice.
He is deflated, dejected and beaten.

He blasted the team effort - the team he is in charge of.
He has promised to make changes, changes to a team he put together.
He has benched Mitch, but he needs to bench about 14 others.
He needs to send at least 5 coaches packing...
But how can you do that?

Tomlin gets thru life with a bit of luck and a lot of BS. It finally is catching up to him. Players see right through it and it is past time for a change. The Steelers need to give him the option of leave on his own terms or be fired.

There are many layers to this if it is even being considered. Sure I guess Art could take a phone call and talk a trade, but it really can't take place without everyone ob board. I do not mean compensation per se, but if it's a place MT does not want to go, he could just say no thanks I retire. If it's a place he might want to get a re-start and doesn't like the loss of draft choices given up, same thing. Art then has to decide I keep him and pay him and get the same results, fire him (and okay him) and let him go, or he sits for a year and gets paid by some network. It's kind of the same situation in NE, the report came out that he was going to be fired, then insiders said nothing has been concluded. Different in that they just resigned Bill, but same in thinking the HC does not have options in the situation, especially destination.
