Either possibility is inexcusable. In that situation, he has to put his head down and fight for the first down, Anything else is gutless, stupid, or both. At least with Pickett, we know the quarterback will have the necessary guts.

Could we end up looking back at the season thinking three failed fourth-and-short plays cost them a playoff berth? They had all the momentum when they made a terrible play call on fourth-and-short against the Texans, then Houston pulled away. Going for it after Pickett was hurt against the Cardinals swung momentum to Arizona. Doing it against the Patriots cost them three points in a three-point game. Maybe they don't get the stop and punt block if they are kicking off rather than turning it over on downs, but that is tough to know.

Seriously, how bad could it have been to give MR the ball in the second half? And, if in Tomlin's opinion he would only get a shot if Trubisky is injured, then why the hell is he even on the roster?

Third-string quarterbacks are usually on the team either as a developmental option or as an emergency option if the top two guys get hurt. Most teams don't have a third-stringer they expect to be good enough to take over if the starter is hurt and No. 2 plays poorly. I doubt Rudolph would have been any better, but it would have been worth a shot. Belichick was in Trubisky's head from the moment he threw that interception.

No, I get the hierarchy. But Mitchell was crap on a cracker the first half. Besides the pick he did throw, another was overturned via penalty and another was dropped. I'm not absolving Pickens immaturity, but I have to believe that in part he and other offensive players were feeling the same way.

To be fair, the interception that was called back only happened because the defender did something illegal. He grabbed the receiver, allowing himself to get in better position to intercept the ball. That said, yeah, Trubisky was horrid in that first half and he wasn't that much better in the second. He stopped trying to turn the ball over, but missed passes to open receivers at least three times on that final drive.

Same old story and it all goes back to coaching. What level of ineptitude will cause Tomlin to be shown the door. I've totally lost interest in this sh!tshow of a franchise. Tomlin needs to go.

Haha. Lurking a bit. This team has me pretty disgusted. I tend to look for other things to keep me entertained recently cause steelers ain't it.
