Anyone been watching what BlaiR Walsh has been doing in Minnesota? Not saying there is anything wrong with SS but this kid was sitting there to be had in the late rounds of the draft.

If this team has to rely on a kicker to kick field goals from 50 yards or more than this team has bigger issues than the kicker himself. Suisham was one of the most reliable players this year, he is NOT the problem!

YEs Butler really struggled late in year. Wonder if some injury or fatigue set in. Looked good in preseason and early on. May be young bull - old bull kind of thing and ran down the hill instead of pacing himself

It also didn't help Butler's numbers that we were always pinned deep in our own territory and going 3 and out either though. But yeah he was not as good late as he was early I think. Maybe Sep will get healthy and they'll call him back. Yes I know that aint happening.

That's the point I was trying to make. There are some young legs in the league and sometimes a team gas to kick 50 traders for wins just like tenn and Cincy where had the kicker had a stronger leg results would've been different. Football is a game of yards including FG s. never said cut SS or fire the coach just food for thought.

You wouldn't trade 3 makes of 50+ for 10 misses (and a lack of confidence in your kicker) inside 45. That would be a lot of heart attacks.

Yea it's mind boggling isn't it. Let's criticize one of the very few players who performed consistently well all year long. Unbelievable !

If we were at Parris Island, I would ask you the question I often asked people when they said something like this. Now don't take this personal but the question is.
"IS YOU EAT UP WIT DA DUMB ASS?"
The guy missed three FG's this year and everyone, EVERY STEELER fan was screaming at the TV, TOMLIN you nuts? He can't make a 52. But mr. next man up, sent him out not once but twice to try one out of his range.

LEGATRON! Nice.... He did well this year for sure but IMO FG kickers should be in range at 55 yards or at least get it there and his long FG attempts fell short by a few yards . Anyway, at least a few people see where I was going with this post.

suisham boots a lot of kickoffs into the endzone, a HELL of a lot more than reed ever did. With the offensive weapons we have, there should be no excuse not to get suisham into 40-42 yard range every drive, so to answer your question, suisham is just fine. the offense needs to wake the hell up and do their jobs better in '13!

I agree with everyone on here for the most part. Suisham surprised me this season, he was money from inside 50 yards. Yea he was sent out there on some long kicks that were out of his range, but the majority of the time we shouldn't put ourselves in a situation where we need a 54 yard FG to win it. Suisham is by far the least of our worries this off season... But I think Butler needs to go, unless he steps his game up somehow. He was terrible, the only thing he did was stay healthy which is more than we could ever say about sepulvada, and well Kapino's wasnt that great either. But hopefully we can find a decent punter in the off season. Someone who can down the ball inside the 5 or angle it out of bounds or something. I know we rely on our gunners to get down there, but Butler's punts would drop so fast and had no back spin what so ever. They constantly roll into the end zone with a lot of speed.

I said it earlier in the thread and I will throw some stats out to go with it. Blair Walsh the rookie kicker for the Vikings drafted in the 6th round was 35 of 38 on field goals this season including 10 for 10 on 50+ yarders. He was 36 for 36 on extra points and had 86 kickoffs with 53 let me bold that 53 touch backs with just 33 returns that averaged just 24.1 yards. Now like the OP was saying I am not dogging Suisham I am saying there was someone sitting there with a hell of a leg and many teams let him slip through the cracks.

While Walsh had a great year, no doubt, his home field is a dome, not Heinz Field.

The Vikings played 12 games this year in domes (counting the retractables in Houston and Indy). This is not taking away from the kid, but it is easier to kick in those envoronments. The 4 other stadiums they played in are Washington, Seattle, Chicago and GB.

I don't recall anyone here pimping him up on draft day.

I'd buy that Rob if he didn't go into Soldier Field and Lambeau and still hit a 50 yarder. We will have to see how he does next season playing outside for most of the home games. I don't anyone here dares pimp a kicker for the draft not after the taking of Sepulvada.

edit: scratch this whole post he didn't kick a 50 yarder at the Packers or Bears. Thought he did. still a solid kicker for a rookie.

Lol, I was about post something similar. I don't think there's a single member of staff who hasn't been held up for firing at some point this season.
