Not surprising. That's the head coach's job through and through. We've taken playoff games lightly before under Tomlin (see losing to Jacksonville at home vs. Blake freakin Bortles). Not sure why he can't keep focus on games they should win. Is he so arrogant that he feels like we can just show up and win in the NFL?

Typical Mike Tomlin trap game but this time we are trapped by looking towards a terrible NE team. If I screwed up at my job three times a season and just put out average results I would be on the streets. Why is it so difficult to do the same to someone with much higher expectations?FMTI!

It is the coach's job to have his finger on the pulse of the team.
It is a bunch of grown men.
If you have not been around close proximity to Championship teams, there's something in the mix that happens early in camp.
    It all just comes together.
    Currently I'm not feeling it.

Tomlin is starting to lose control of his locker room...I mean, I don't think he's happy that 2 of his players admitted that the Steelers took the Cards lightly!

It's extremely unusual for players to make statements like this. I think they're actively trying to get Tomlin fired. If so, then they're doing God's work. Hopefully ARII has ears to hear what they're exposing.

They did it under Cowher as well. All NFL teams do it.

The coaches are half of it. The other half are the professional athletes that make millions of dollars to give 100% to each game.

As I said the other day, I don't think under Tomlin the Steelers would have won 41-0 and 35-21 in their last 2 games with a playoff spot on the line as it was the case in 2005, even if it was against 2 terrible teams

Maybe they would have won both under Tomlin, but not easy like that..Maybe not also like we saw in 2015 when the Steelers lost to Ryan Mallett and the depleted ravens team in a must win game...The focus is very poor

Not to the extent it does under Tomlin. Sure, there's always the human element (and its even more so now with the excess money and social media aspect of today's game), but this has been a particular issue for Tomlin all throughout his career. Every NFL team is due a dud or two, hell the Eagles got wrecked by the 9ers, the 9ers lost to the PJ Walker led Browns, etc. It happens everywhere... but its just clockwork for Tomlin teams.

And it can not happen in a crucial game in december!...This is one thing if it happen in september but this a such a another thing when it happen when you fight for a playoffs spot!

It's happened in January with Tomlin too. We lost to Baker Mayfield without their HC at home, Blake Bortles at home, etc. Then we "looking forward to NE" and "Browns is the Browns" our way out of the picture. It's Tomlin's greatest deficiency as a HC. Part of it is due to him being below the bar (or simply behind the times) in today's X's and O's, but the other part is just arrogance. We're better than them, lets just execute and we will win... Not gonna cut it in the NFL.

We also lost against Tebow too and I don't care if the game were in Denver, since it was all-time bad to give up 316 passing yards on 10 completion to Tebow!!!

I do t know about that. The same conversations we have about Tomlin teams playing down to the competition were the same conversations my family had every week under Cowher.

I really believe it boils down to not being a disciplinarian type coach. It's like the parent that wants to be friends with their kids first. I have always thought Mike didn't alter his approach from coaching a veteran laden team to progressively a younger team. Troy, Farrior, Harrison, etc didn't have to be reminded to put the work in and be a professional but surely AB, Wallace, Ben, etc needed to. Most people love a boss that is easy and doesn't ride their arse but at times that is what is needed to push players to be the best. Jordan was an a$$ hole but he got the best out of his teammates.

I for one glad players are finally speaking out.Does it mean they have had enough of the lack luster coaching who knows.
I hope Art Rooney paying attention. It go back all these years, Tomlin needs to go.

typical Tomlin game. 3 playoff wins in 13 years. blew out matt moore and the rest of his mediocre dolphins.. squeaked by the alex smith led mediocre chiefs, 18-16, on boswell's 6 field goals. lucked out against an aj mccarron led bengals team that we deserved to lose if not for burfict being a dip**** and joey porter Sr coming out of retirement midfield.

seriously, how do you still have a job when that is your resume while fielding a HOF QB (who Tomlin inherited) during all those years?

Same with Kobe in that regard...

I can agree with you that he was the right type of coach for a vet laden team, but failed to adjust his style to be the right type of coach for a younger team trying to find its footing. He relied heavily on vet leadership to keep the train moving and probably didn't develop those skills himself. Now he has a team that lacks a large number of "vet leadership" players and we are paying the price for it.

Will never cheer for us to lose, but if we lose to the Patriots I think he's DONE. I dont see how you would come back from losing to two 2-10 teams back to back at home in the midst of the playof hunt.

As far as taking things lightly or overlooking an opponent, sure it is a coach responsibility, but also a players. Might be part of an overall culture that needs to be addressed, also maybe a lack of leadership on the team.
I know at the college level there is often a team approach to coaching - one will be the player support/friend, and another being the task-master disciplinarian. Head coach or assistant can take either role, but both are needed. Tomlin seems to be the player/coach - I wonder who is the task-master, if anyone.

Seventeen games is also a grind. Lots of sports and athletes cycle their training for key contests. I wonder if “taking a team lightly” a couple of games a season is one way to do this, and you’d pick the weaker opponents. It can sure backfire, but maintaining intensity, both physically and mentally, for 17+ weeks must be tough. Heck, NBA players take whole game off (I know theirs is a much longer season).

TJ and Tomlin said they didn't take AZ lightly, the media trying to start some BS.

That team came out and got shell-shocked just like they did against the Bortles led Jaguars a couple years earlier. They looked completely unprepared. Ben sucked, but the whole team looked lost. Inexcusable against a division rival playing without its head coach.

Right. These guys are professionals. I'm sure they did their standard weekly prep. Film study, practice, whatever goes into it. Winning is their business. Even though they fell far short, I don't think it was because they took them lightly, but they obviously didn't prepare well enough, or adjust enough at half or in game.
