I thought the frustration was Ben would throw the bomb on 3rd and 1. When he threw it on 2nd and 2, that was always a great call.

It really was a stunning shift to see them taking shots over the middle. Part of that was getting Freiermuth healthy, which he hadn't been most of the season. I know I'm not the only one who thought the chest injury was really bothering him even before the hamstring put him on IR. This was the guy we saw last season. It is great to have him back. That's not to excuse Canada. He could have done more of that with his receivers and with Heyward. For whatever reason, he chose not to do so.

Thompson has been very good. Walker played very well today, too. They were a big part of the strong defensive performance today, but the offense playing keep-away was even bigger. That was the biggest part of Pickett's game today. He missed some throws, but he was much better on third down. That may have been the biggest difference from last week.

Johnson was definitely robbed of a touchdown. Tomlin blew it by not challenging that one. His childish, lazy reaction on the next play was inexcusable. I doubt Tomlin would bench him for long, but he should not start next week.

And the offense looked far more impressive than it has all season in the rain no less. Not a torrential downpour but enough to potentially effect the game. Really shows you how much Canada was holding us back.
Related: Pickett has only 1 fumble on the season and that was when he was holding the ball out to get more yards as he ran out of bounds. The fumble also went out of bounds. Good ball security.

Perhaps but he sure laid out for that pass he was injured on. He always gives max effort when trying to catch the ball at least. He's been playing pretty good football lately and is an aggressive blocker, too. Seems to have hopefully fixed some of the attitudinal and behavioral issues as well.

Totally agree. 38 and 17 have really stepped up to help solidify this defense. They have been solid and impactful. With a healthy Cam, this D line can be dominant with Larry O and Benton also cooking. The front 7 is pretty outstanding right now.

It helps that the Bengals' defense sucks. I'm as happy as anybody to see progress, especially from Pickett, but let's not forget that Cincinnati has a lousy defense.

i agree thompson has played well, but so has mykal walker. we have a pretty good duo in the middle right now. after what we lost with holcomb and alexander, we haven't dropped off much if any. happy about this.

muth is fresh and i hope he can keep it up as the season wears on.

good job sullivan and faulkner.

It would have been good to get more points, but it doesn't concern me so much given the situational nature of the scoring.

When we were 13-7 up, I think if it was earlier in the game they would have pushed for the TD more. As it was, at that time in the game, 3 points was enough to require Cincinnati to score twice with very little time left. That's just situational football.

It would have been good for Tomlin to challenge the DJ non-TD, but having looked at again I don't think it's as cut and dried as the announcers were making out. The refs could argue that he didn't have full control through the three steps, for example. Don't get me wrong, I still think it was a TD - but it wouldn't be guaranteed that the call would be overturned.

Tomlin's situational challenges is what sets him apart as the worst.

That's the reason Matt Canada was given the job, just so we're clear.

The ghost of JJ is all the more reason DJ has to hold onto the ball.

Now do one where you show when he didn't throw the flag when he clearly should have.

I don't think anyone is saying it 100% would've been overturned - but man, you have to at least try. That's my sore spot about it all.

Easy to say that when we get multi-view replays on our couches.

Unless someone proves to me otherwise, with current situational facts - the guys up in the booth have access to the same replays that we all do from our couch. This isn't the 80's or 90's anymore.

Funny how all teams just do what they do. If the Bengals were smart, they would have played more zone but instead just played aggressive per usual. Bad coaching IMO.

This. We still need more points on the board if we want to compete with the big boys. The Bengals just aren't a good team this year. Their defence is really bad. Still, it was a really good step in the right direction. The play calls were better and seemed to have more of a purpose to them. The entire field was utilized. It was definitely an improvement.

Thankfully we have an easy schedule the rest of the way. There's no reason why we shouldn't end up in the playoffs.

Agreed. It made sense to run the clock and play for three there.

They are not allowed to watch the game broadcast in the coaches box. I’ve worked IT support at Heinz Field during games. Not to mention that there is a delay with the broadcast video so it wouldn’t do them any good.

Between series they get access to multiple camera views on the sideline tablets.

Challenges are based off what they see in real time and what replays get shown on the big screen.
