I'm encouraged by what I watched today. That said...I've taken a wait and see approach with Kenny. One decent game doesn't wipe out a season and a half of god awful football.

I want to see this sustained before I pass judgement. Once there's some tape on this version of the offense it might look a little different. I'd guess the Bengals didn't know exactly what they were gonna see...as I don't think the Steelers knew what the O would look like. Like with anything, time will tell. But early returns were headed in the right direction.

I don't know that I would agree with a season and a half of awful football. I thought he was moving in the right direction the second half of last year.
However, this entire season I'll give you.

He should have been fired in the off season. It's ridiculous he wasn't.
I don't think we are a legit contender either way, but still, I feel like we lost this year as a result of having Canada retained

Imagine putting people on the ignore list that you don't agree with. "Thin skin with Rabbit ears" is not an enjoyable way to go through life.

Aside from that, it was clearly a point of emphasis for the new OC team to utilize the seams to the TE. They gave him a lot of easy reads and Kenny finally let a few fly with confidence. Still doesn't handle pressure well, and missed a few easy plays, but this was clearly a step forward for him. He needs to continue to play like this moving forward. He has a 7 game audition (1 game in the books) to keep his job into 2024. We absolutely have to make the playoffs if he wants to be safe. If we make the playoffs Kenny will have played at least decently to end the season. If we miss, its because he sucked. He has a shot, now he needs to go execute.

I think we fell in love with "4th quarter Kenny" to end the season. He still wasn't playing particularly well, but we forgave that because he was a rookie and made some plays in the 4th quarter to win some games to end the year. It was fluky, but it gave us some hope that if he made some strides he'd be a viable QB for us moving forward. That hasn't happened, so we're kinda on a 6 game audition to see if we need to replace him in 2024.

Me too! I didn't even know that was a thing until today. Whenever I think I might be a loser, all I have to do is remind myself that I'm not a pathetic and overly emotional man child who idolizes a, thus far, unremarkable QB and then blocks everyone who isn't already a card carrying member of the dude's only fan club. God knows I'm a flawed man, but at least there's that. At least there's that. :lolol:

You really don't understand football, until the Steelers can provide KFP
with A level playing field( competant OC / run /pass game coordinator competent
play caller)how can you evaluate a person. He is never going to be Pat Mahomes
But he could be a Jerrard Goff?

How many excuses have to be made for him? Like, oh... its the OC's fault. The Passing Game Coordinator, etc. We can evaluate him because no matter how bad Canada's offense was, there were plays to be made and he didn't make them. He wasn't executing Canada's offense to its full potential (no matter how low that is). He hasn't progressed at all, he still misses easy plays, he's still panicked in the face of even marginal pressure, he still struggles processing the defense and getting through his reads, he was 2nd worst in the NFL in "off target throws" going into today. He blows stuff that he should make, he has happy feet, he can't read the defense, and he isn't accurate. The man has had 23 starts... It's not like we haven't given him a shot. How many starts is fair? Its bad man.

I'd be on your side if we saw any glimpse of hope. Like if he maximized the offense, but the scheme sucked I'd be fine. If he was accurate, but our guys aren't open I'd be fine. But it's not. We can't put perfection around him to be "sure" in our evaluation. He's had a lot of chances, but he's played extremely poorly. He's gotten WAY more chances than many others have gotten. He should be buying his defense a nice Christmas present because they are the only reason he is still the starting QB.

It was during the game when they panned to the sideline, it was a quick shot then they panned away

He had moments last year. I’d still call his performance god awful last year in totality - he didn’t even sniff mediocre. Especially in a league set up for throwing the ball. I like the kid. He’s tough, and I’d like for him to pan out. But today is the first time I’ve seen him play 4 full quarters that looked remotely close to an NFL Qb. Hopefully today is a sign of things to come.

Can you imagine when we improve the offensive line i.e. new center and right tackle with Jones back to left!!

In addition to all that Canada may be unfairly judged for not enough middle of the field throws, but he wasn't the one throwing the ball and we allsaw plenty of instances where Kenny would unto the ball and not throw it. Canada had some poorly drawn up play designs especially in the screen game but I anticipate some tweaks that's going to continue to make Kenny and this offense better. I want Kenny to get to the point where he's not gun shy and trusting the process and I think everybody can agree on that.

I agree. He finally took some shots downfield today, hopefully that continues. We can make Kenny look a lot better for sure. I just want to see that jump where Kenny starts making other guys better. Right now he is a passenger in the offense. He needs to be a driver if we want to go places in the league.

I thought run game looked a lot better today, it seemed like O-Line kept it simple and were blocking downhill, instead of making things too complicated for them.

It was encouraging to see Kenny hit Muth deep down the middle of the field early in the game.

There are some typical Kenny plays that frustrate me, but I think we have something we can work with the rest of the year. Passing game looked more ‘on schedule’ today.

There were still a few plays where he is immediately getting pressure up the middle though. He couldn’t even step into throw a without getting hit or someone hacking at this arm. His interior line needs to keep him clean.
