couldn't have or it would have been the shrimp fest of 1621 and to this day all the holiday tables would be full of shrimp and grits. of course i keep trying to push the fact that the pilgrams and indians had the traditional key lime pie at the first thanksgiving but they don't believe me.

My boss at my first job always wondered why we went through a case of whipped cream a week. Then they fired the assistant cook, and a case would last two months.

    I can multi eat

The non stop shrimp is just two weeks around Halloween while I’m living next to shrimp boats

For Christmas I do a 16 pound cut and tied standing rib roast prime grade

Trivia: A prime rib does not necessarily mean prime grade

We have 7 kids, 7 grandkids and 4 great grandchildren and they all still come over to our house. My wife mentioned a couple of years ago if one of our daughters wanted to take over hosting the Holidays but our grandkids protested saying that it wouldn't be the same if it wasn't at Grandma's and Pap's house.

It’s a tradition that can be passed down

    Grandparents

    Aunts and uncles

My wife and I for 30 years

Now my niece husband and family

If grandkids want to protest let them do it and invite grandparents

It’s a lot of work and sometimes agrevation

Yes, indeed. And 16 pounds is one big roast, even with all seven bones. Good eating, though. I typically smoke one on Christmas when I visit the folks.

I preorder naturally and when I go to the local butcher shop and they hand it over the counter people just look and stare

It’s more than I need but I carve off big hunks and this is one leftover I am willing to freeze

Otherwise I’m not a fan of frozen meat

    Ok smarty pants

This feast lasted three days and was attended by 90 Native American Wampanoag people and 53 survivors of the Mayflower

    Plymouth is on the ocean

There was a variety of seafood there anything they could eat

When my mom got older she still wanted to have holiday dinners at her house, but it was difficult for her to do the work. So we started bringing cooked food to the house. If everyone that comes helps to contribute to the work to help your wife out, it will make things much more enjoyable.

My wife and I would cook food and bring it to my mom's house, plus we would always go down early to help my mom with all the things she struggled with anymore. It can be done. If the family members don't want to help out, just say you can't do it anymore. It shouldn't be a problem for siblings to help out their parents as things get more difficult as they get older.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Yeah, we don't go that big for ours though I've seen the full roasts - there's typically a harp-accompanied "ahhhh" in chorus one can hear as it's handed over the counter.

We do typically go a little larger than needed as well, leftovers plus a little something extra for the pups' yearly Christmas dinner. Not that they're spoiled whatsoever.

So after doing the Thanksgiving cooking for 30 years which I love I thought passing this to my niece and other relatives was good

But I can’t be a lazy butt and do nothing so what did I get stuck with…..I did dish washing for an hour plus

I made a point of teaching the new cooks how to cook without making the pots and pan’s unnecessary hard to clean

It’s too late to go back to cooking at my house now but I sure as crap am not giving up cooking for Christmas and the rib roast
