    https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2023/1...d-to-bench-kenny-pickett-to-save-their-season

I’m sorry to have to post this, but it’s time. Pickett has had enough time to show us who he is and, unfortunately, he’s done just that and he isn’t who I hoped he was. Canada hasn’t done him any favors, but he hasn’t done Canada any favors either. It’s time to give Mitch another shot and this article builds a pretty good case for that. When Mitch came in earlier in the season against the Jags, his ability to throw the ball with velocity deeper downfield much more effectively than Pickett was obvious. One of those throws was picked off but it was good to see a Steelers quarterback throw the ball with purpose and take a shot downfield.

It’s time for a change. It may not be forever, but it’s obvious that Kenny’s confidence is shot right now and he may need a break to be able to see things from a different perspective. In the long run, it may do him some good.

In all honesty, we gave Pickett a real shot. It really can't hurt at this point to put Mitch in and see what happens. If we throw up another first half 0 next game, I'd be all for it. We need to light a fire under the offense, and maybe seeing a pigskin fired more than 10 yards downfield will get them going a bit. We just have to find a way to win games, and if Pickett can't score us any in the first half... its hard to argue that the kid gives us a chance to win.

I think at the moment Pickett is widely considered the worst starting quarterback in the NFL and his paltry numbers bear that out. As unremarkable as Mitch’s career has been, I don’t believe at any time that he’s ever been considered the worst starting quarterback in the league. At least he’s not afraid to throw the ball more than ten yards downfield, has a stronger arm, is more accurate and has better mobility. I think a case can be made for Mitch. Would you rather it be Mason if a switch is made? I could live with that too.

Unfortunately we don't get a vote, so Tomlin will stick the worst QB on the team.

If we did have a vote (i.e. Rooney realized it's better to poll the fanbase to have a better chance of winning), I'd go with Rudolph the rest of this year.

In September you would have looked dumber than a box of rocks for posting this (probably even a facepalm :smiley1:)

    Now I’m starting to agree

I’m past the part of Kenny learning on the job it’s time for him to step back and learn from the sideline like quarterbacks used to

And like scribe suggested bring in competition for next year

If we get a new OC a couple of draft choices and a mediocre QB I still think this team can be competitive next year

I'm now in this camp. Remember that Mitch played well when they beat Cincy on the road last year.

I’m not a big Mitch fan but a week of first team snaps would make a big difference in his play

I remember Rudolph throwing deep well... frankly, I rather watch games where steelers go 3 and out throwing deep twice per series, than have mitch/pickett throw screen after screen.

I don’t want to be doom and gloom but you aren’t getting any of the others back either

Rumor is if you swim in the icy waters of Lake Baikal you will live an extra ten years so I did

Now I realized they didn’t tack those ten on when I was 30 they are taking them on to the end yippee

lol... true... but i'm assuming the coaches won't use Warren because, you know, he's about 58% of the offense for the day. Given that, I rather see rudolph throw it deep than mitch/kenny throw screens.

I will take Rudolph over mitch. Trubisky is a interception machine. If trubisky plays I'm not watching anymore Steelers games! I will tear up my Steelers membership!

You can't trust Trubisky though; he will start throwing into double and triple coverage.

Like it or not Kenny Pickett is the best quarterback on this team.

Trubisky is just awful. Those making a case for him will be the first to turn their backs on him after he loses his first start.

If anything I think a case could be made for Mason Rudolph. But Pickett makes far less boneheaded plays than Rudolph.

The Steelers best chance of winning games, is winning them ugly. Protect the football, play good defense, run the ball, and you will be in most games. Pickett can get the Steelers to the playoffs by managing the game. I dont believe the same can be said for his backups.

At this point I think we are best served by sticking with Pickett for the rest of the season. He either figures it out or he doesn’t, but it should provide additional clarity on what we need to do at the QB position in the offseason. Prior to the Browns game we had actually scored TDs early in a couple of games in a row. It’s not like we have another guy on the roster who is ready to light it up.

Also, I know this will be unpopular with some, but the fact that we’re 6-4 (and currently holding the #7 seed) and are able to legitimately ask whether we have the worst starting QB in the league speaks to Tomlin at least doing something right. Usually when a team has one of the worst QBs in the league, they’re well below .500 after 10 games.
