Good job of illustrating the erratic nature of both the play calling and Pickett's own performance within it.

I’ve been saying for years it’s like Steelers don’t practice anything they use during the game

To paraphrase the host.. "Welcome to playing QB in the NFL with a broken rib"

I still think Kenny's rib injury effected his Zip on the ball this game.

EDIT: I am going to warn you right now.. There is a lot of Matt Canada praise in this video! :)

Home game with the Packers, our running game starting to wake up (maybe) Pickets ribs feeling better. Who knows, this game maybe, just maybe.

Sensationalizing again I see. He doesn't mention Kenny's rib injury once throughout the whole video and it's 26 minutes of video. That's what you would like to think was the issue even though theres no indication that it was. He doesn't mention Canada and good offense in the same breath until the 23 minute mark and that's when he goes into detail of the two big plays involving Diontae on the last scoring drive. He went over a total of about 12-13 plays. Thats not even remotely complimenting Canada a lot no matter how you slice it. The two times he did compliment Canada were warranted. In the future I hope people consider the source when you comment.

It’s a good video. One of JT ‘s better ones. The praise of the scheme comes in at the very end, justifiably considering the two plays he praised. Not every single play design or play call by Canada is bad. Just most of them.

There were some terrible throws by KP. The miss of Robinson on the post in the red zone was much worse than I thought from just having seen it on live TV once before this video. I knew it was a bad miss by Pickett, but damn it wasn’t even a high school caliber throw when seeing the All 22 angles. Also on that same play, you can see the absolute lack of spatial awareness by “red sleeves” aka Terrell Edmunds. Man, he is just terrible when he has deep responsibility no matter the down and distance.

The 32 yard deep ball to DJ on the winning TD drive was a nice throw. One of only maybe 2 or 3 “nice” throws on the evening by Pickett. It was a clutch throw. He tantalizes with some big time NFL throws, but he still isn’t playing anything close to consistent football. He’s no better than he was as a rookie. No growth. No progress.

Partially, but a lot of what we see is just Pickett not getting it done on a consistent basis.

I agree. Pickett has definitely regressed and I’ve lost a little confidence that he can be the guy. I’m not totally giving up on him, but 4th quarter Kenny needs to become 4 quarter Kenny if he wants to assume the mantle of the next franchise quarterback for the Steelers.

    ....

So... One if two possibilities now lie before Pickett.

1.) Improve by leaps and bounds for the remainder of the season to start anew with a new OC in 2024.

    Or

2.) Continue these erratic performances and force the Front Offices hand in scouting a QB in 2024.

As I see it, those are the two options available for Pickett. Again, not all his fault. However, the games against Tennessee, Jacksonville and even in wins like Los Angeles and Baltimore are not giving much confidence as a whole.

I think we're at option 2 and it's on Kenny to improve to option 1.

we were waiting for the run game to help kenny. it did. we have the starting wr's all in. we even helped the o-line by playing the better RT. kenny still playing the same. what is the common denominator here?

This is what we don't know.

I've been hard on Canada, but I've been giving him credit for some changes and good design of more plays. I also think the play calling has been better the last few games.

After saying that, it may be the influence of someone other than Matt Canada that is producing the more cohesive look of the offense. There is a pretty good chance that it wasn't Canada's choice to come down to the sideline to call plays. I believe it was the right move because he is closer to the action to get a better feel for things, plus he can now teach as the game is progressing and possibly learning some things himself about how things play out between the on-field play and the sideline analysis. Seeing Canada and Kenny Pickett looking at a tablet and being able to teach and explain in real time can only help.

I just hope that the improvement continues. We will probably find out if there was an intervention at the end of the season. If there is real growth in the offense, if Canada's offense becomes more and more effective, and if Pickett continues to grow within that offense....great.

If Canada is making all the tweaks and adjustments to his offense, if he is responsible for drastic improvement, if they are scoring more points, and if Kenny is playing much better within the system and everything is moving in the right direction....he's probably here long-term.

If Canada had little to do with that, he will most likely be let go or demoted.

If the offense continues to struggle, he will almost certainly be let go.

One of the greatest moments for me was when Rob Lowe was the host after his incident with the young lady. The look Church Lady gave him when he walked out had me rolling on the floor.
