I'm sure the video is out there, but I'm not going to look for it or post it here. Just from the description by Al Michaels and Mike Tomlin's comments after the game, I think we have to assume it is a season-ending knee injury.

Holcomb is significant loss that sort of got lost in the talk of the quarterbacks and the comeback victory. After a little time to settle in, he had played very well this season. The three-man rotation at inside linebacker had been very effective. I think he had the green dot, too. The defense was already missing Fitzpatrick, but they really fell into disarray when Holcomb left the game. It took until the second half to settle down a little. Holcomb is also a rock-solid tackler who moves well.

Last night was the perfect opportunity for Roberts to play more. They needed a thumper out there to help stop Henry, but he is limited. It's disappointing that we really won't see this defense at full capacity this season because Heyward got hurt in the opener and Holcomb will be gone when Fitzpatrick returns.

yep big lose. alexander is balling out which will help soften the blow but make no mistake he will be missed. of course after the trade deadline as well. robinson step it up. we did add two linebackers last week. one thing i didn't know was we lost peralas sp? different position i know but he had a lot of upside. do you think they try to move golden or herbig around some to the middle?

it's a bummer, for sure. Good that we have a few players there in the middle but a big loss. all teams dealing with big losses this time of year.

    Nice to see Heyward back.

I am guessing Minkah still out 2-3 more weeks?

I don't think Golden has ever played inside. He really is more of a stand-up end. The outside linebacker who is best equipped to move inside is Watt, but you certainly don't want to do that consistently.

Losing Holcomb is a huge loss. Hopefully will go our way and it’s just a strain that won’t sideline him for long. If it’s as serious as it appears We are without both green dots for the foreseeable future. That does not bode well for us defensively.

I don’t remember him having played ilb. I just remember a lot of post draft discussion(fans/media) of him switching to ilb

We should have grabbed either Sweat or Young from the Foreskins.

Holcomb was really coming around nicely, too bad on the injury.

Robinson has become a forgotten man. Time to step up.

    Herbig stays at OLBer

I'm not sure if he played there in college, but the Steelers talked about giving him some work inside when they drafted him. I don't remember seeing it much in preseason. He is such a talented edge rusher. I don't think they want to move him away from that.

They weren't trading a second-round pick for a guy in the final year of his contract like Sweat. Young cost a three, but he hasn't been the same player since the injury early in his career.

are we into a jones chuks situation? i know herbig has tons of upside on the outside but the get the best players on the field scenario may be in play as well. if they can get inovative and move watt and herbig around it may benefit the overall scheme and even the pass rush. at least confuse the other offense some. just spit ballin here.

I think the ability on the edge is why he didn't get much work inside in preseason, but now the issue is that lack of work. Playing him there when he hasn't gotten the work in to learn the position seems foolish.

Two entirely different skill sets. If Robinson were to replace someone it would be for Roberts not Holcomb

he has played 49 games with 29 game starts. 3 picks. 11 passes defended. 1 forced fumble. 1 sack. 5 tackles for loss and 187 total tackles. 107 of those tackles and 2 interceptions and 6 of those passes defended, in his final season at atlanta. not too bad. we could do much worse.

Sucks to lose him, as Holcomb was playing well. We have Kwon and Roberts to take the inside spots with Robinson to fill in. Will probably elevate someone from the PS. Neal has played some inside LB as well, but probably wont see any of that until Minkah is back since he is needed on the back end. We have some options, but don't want/need to lose anyone else in that position group.

Such an unlucky deal how his injury happened. Insult to injury is losing a guy who had filled a void in this defense and was having a nice season to this point. It's a loss for sure.

Silver lining is hopefully the next man up is ready and there is an opportunity for others to fill the void. Elandon Roberts made a huge one on one tackle for a loss on Henry last night at a critical moment. Against a dude who does not get tackled one on one, much less a loss.
