This is something I have noticed the last two seasons. If you were a new football fan, would watching a Steelers game make you love the game more? I think not. The offense consists mostly of three-and-outs and low-risk plays, and the defense is just good enough that it turns the opposing team's offense into a sub-par version of themselves. Of course, there are exceptions as the defense sometimes doesn't show up (e.g., 49ers game this season), but we know that the offense never really shows up (outgained in all games this season). The result is an ultra-boring football game to watch.

It is but they have to play that way. When you don't have the talent to match the other team then you have to play conservatively and slow the game down. If the Steelers come out and throw the ball all over the field in a wide open offense, then they will lose every game by 30 points. At least this boring ugly way they play gets them to win over half of their games.

I don't know about You, but they are very watchable to Me.....otherwise I wouldn't watch. Hell many people go out of their way to watch....so they can't be that unwatchable. Survivor, or mask singer....now that is unwatchable.

If you like defense it hasn't been unwatchable at all. We have a lot of great individual players on the defensive side of the ball. Watt, Heyward, Minkah, Highsmith.... all guys that are extremely fun to watch. It's all in what you like.

I watch because I like to not give up my sundays to what my wife will force upon me.

I only find what Watt does “fun and watchable” on the team. Everything else about the team is unwatchable to me.

Realistically there are only a few good teams in the NFL overall. Now I think the Steelers suck but most of the time they are in the games ugly or not. I just wish that one year they would be in the discussion for a SB. And that lately seems a long long ways away .

It is the damn young people I tell ya. Offence was not as big in the 70's. A lot of us enjoyed hard nose defensive football with low scoring. The NFL probably would have lost a ton of fans if they didn't make it an offensive oriented league. This generation of fans love those high scoring games. They may be bored with the Steelers now but take them back to 1976 and we'd really bore them with all those shut outs.

I agree about the NFL. The NFC since Niners had those injuries is all about 1 team. Only way the Eagles are not in the SB would be major injuries. Now the AFC has a few more SB contenders but barring injury I'd say KC :puking2:Jaguars, Ravens or Bengals will be AFC rep.

I love watching, however week after week it seems like the same episode, only against an opponent with a different color uniform.

Every week we tune in just to see if we are gonna be able to get a first down in the first quarter, then we keep watching the second quarter to see if we will at least get a few first downs and a field goal. We eagerly wait for halftime to get over with to see if we come out making adjustments, hoping our defense will score a TD. Then finally the 4th quarter we wait for some type of magic to happen.

How do they slow the game down if they always lose out on time of possession, don't get 1st downs, and go 3 and out more than any other team? I guess it is in just words as the actions don't support slowing the game down

Right now, it is painful to watch. I left for a couple of quarters last game. When I came back, Trubisky was in the game and incredibly it was even more painful.

Since your post mentioned a new football fan watching them, yeah, it would be tough to enjoy the Steelers games as a person new to football, unless you live close to Pittsburgh and just want to support your local team.

For us as Steelers fans, they are still hard to watch, but we're looking for glimmers of hope that things will improve, and enjoying some good (mostly) defensive play.

Steelers are painful to watch... but not unwatchable. Same as the 98 and 99 seasons. Those seasons were painful to watch. Steelers had lost a lot of good players to free agency and the team had many holes.
