I'm not ready to give up on Pickett yet. Mainly because you just hate to see a first round pick be wasted. I think you hit it on the head with Mason. He played well prior to his concussion and showed a lot of promise. I also think he was rushed back too soon, mainly because the concussion he suffered wasn't just the run of the mill bumped his head. That was a knock out concussion that would have scrambled anyone's brain and vision. Your average Joe would have missed a few weeks of work, let alone play a physical game of football.

I agree 100%, but we may as well give him a shot if Mitch struggles early. I’d rather be wrong about Rudolph and win than not try him if Mitch is struggling.

I’m good with whoever gives us the best shot at winning. Most hated Mitch until he was a backup then suddenly they forgot how bad he was and wanted him to replace Kenny. Now they remember how bad he is and want Rudolph to replace Mitch until they remember how bad Rudolph is.
In my opinion the only chance with the guys currently on our roster is with Pickett.

Rudolph sucks. Everyone cries about giving him a chance, and then when he finally gets it, everyone quickly shuts up and is reminded why he is buried on the depth chart. Seriously, how many times does this have to happen? He'll make a nice pass or two, but has absolutely terrible pocket presence. Every pass is either tipped or thrown while he's getting hit because he's indecisive, can't make reads, and can't maneuver in or out of the pocket. He was a free agent last year and nobody wanted him for a reason.

If KP can’t go they should go with Mason; at least he does more than throw 3 yard passes and/or play catch with the defense

playing Mitch is like waving the white flag

32 teams passed on Mason until at the last second we signed him as a vet minimum 3rd QB

That inherently makes him the 96th ranked QB

And yet left fielders think he is a viable option others think he never had a chance

I guess people are forgetting about the tie to the Lions with Rudolph starting at QB in 2021. And the Lions were nowhere near as good then as they are now.

It was fumbles that lost us that game, the more critical one by overrated Friermuth in ot when we were in field goal range. People like Friermuth because he’s from Penn State, but he’s no Heath Miller. His blocking is atrocious and is just an average receiver.

Mitch is reckless and that is why he is a back up. He is immensely more talented than Mason, and a much better QB. We don't want to see Mason. Nobody does.

I get that QB is always "the guy behind him is better" when the guy in front is losing... but we can't have all forget how bad Mason was when he was on the field for us (in a much better offensive situation than we are in right now). He got replaced by Duck Hodges of all people. You can say what you want about Trubisky, but Mason is horrific. Awful. Nobody needs to see him play in the current iteration of our offense.

Mason also reclaimed his job from Duck and very nearly beat the Browns in the season finale who were fighting for playoff positioning. He’s not as bad as some people make him out to be. Starter? No. But as a backup he’s fine. Mitch is not.

he may not have the physical ability of Mitch but he’s a better decision maker imo.

He is as bad. 31 other teams had a chance to sign him for nothing and didn't. We are currently the only NFL team that thinks he is worth a roster spot. There aren't many back up QB's that anyone would feel comfortable with in a game. Hell, there aren't 32 starters that people are comfortable with in a game. But that doesn't mean we have to complain every time the back up throws a pick. He also threw a TD pass. Something Pickett hadn't done in 6 quarters. Trubisky's a back up bc he is bad. Mason is worse. A lot worse.

Mitch always throws into triple or double coverage - he’s the one that is that bad. Teams didn’t pickup Mason because mobile QB’s are trending in the league. (Joe Flacco, Wentz, and Colt McCoy are also free agents).

What’s probably going to happen if KP is still injured or gets re injured is that Mitch will start but will probably get pulled for being ineffective and Mason will get his shot. Then we’ll see who is the better backup (which is a poor place for the Steelers to be in) they would probably need to look for another QB in the off-season

Dude. Actually Tell Me one game Mason has been as bad as Trubisky has been since He's been here. The man(Trubisky)is a walking turnover machine. He almost has as many turnovers as Mason does, and He's done that in half the games. Just not turning over the ball helps greatly.

If this is even remotely true instead of just fantasy.....how is it that Mason has more wins as a Steeler, more tds, and a way better td to turnover rate than Trubisky since He's been a Steeler??? Explain it.

I see some are praying that they aren't wrong. LoL. Nothing You are saying is true. He beat Duck Hodges out in the Preseason. Was the starter until He got not just knocked out illegally, but smashed so bad they had to remove His face mask, and then rushed Hin back...You keep say He lost his job to Duck , but somehow fail to say He took it back from Duck. If Mason is so much worse than Trubisky.....please explain how He has way more wins , way more tds, and a way better TD to turnover rate than Trubisky has since He's been a Steeler??? Don't just say something...explain it

Well, i think it gives Mason job security. So if you think Mason is bad, realize how bad Mitch is to keep Mason in the conversation

Just because YOU don't care about what Trubisky did in a Bears uniform, doesn't mean that it vanishes entirely from existence. He's still a back up for a reason, but Trubisky's statistics as a starter FAR exceeds anything Mason has ever done on the football field in an NFL uniform. Mason hasn't been better in a Steelers uniform than Trubisky. He is just credited with a winning record because our defense carried him to more wins than Trubisky has.

You do understand that in 2019 (the bulk of Mason's starts, and the only season in which Mason has won a game as a starter) the Steelers finished the year with less YPG and less 3rd down % than what we have so far this season. Only 2ppg higher than this season. He was inept. This was with an offensive line that consisted of Villanueva-Foster-Pouncey-DeCastro-Feiler. McDonald at TE, Conner at RB, JuJu and DJ at receiver. It wasn't due to lack of an offense around him... Mason was a literal black hole of offense. Mason has a winning record at QB because his defense that year was TERRIFIC. They were top 5 in total points allowed, 3rd in total passing yards allowed, 1st in rushing TD's allowed, 1st in sacks, 2nd in interceptions. It is possible with an average defense Mason may never have won a game as a starter at all.
