Should they move TJ around like they do with parsons?

Yesterday they moved Watt to the left side and right, also he was playing behind the line?… when he got that pick. He didn’t do much because he was getting chipped all game and when he got loose he was in a chokehold about 3 times.

I think our pass rush is good enough to move Watt around at times what do you think?

He is just an incredible player. He is able to do things that only a handful of players that ever played the game have been able to do.

 

Should they?! Teryl Austin and Mike Tomlin could do so if they wished. Will they?! Unlikely.


Not that I disagree with the potential benefits of moving T.J. Watt around for there are a plenty. Reason Micah is moved everywhere though is due to the fact that the Cowboys have him and sadly only him as a consistent pass rush threat. Pittsburgh does not have this problem for their pass rush can come from both the IDL (Interior Defensive Lineman) to the EDGEs not named Watt (Golden, Herbig and Highsmith).


Now, is T.J. Watt the literal engine of the pass rush?! Without a doubt. That said, even a great engine like T.J. Watt does need a proverbial great transmission and other parts for him to truly shine. Now, T.J. Watt can shine regardless of not having said parts but that will make his impact a bit more difficult to have.

I’ve been keeping an eye on both watt and highsmith rushing the qb and I actually think highsmith is a better pass rusher. What Watt lacks in power he makes up with IQ and the opportunities he gets when he breaks through is unmatched. It’s why his win rate is lower but he gets more numbers.

 

Also someone online told me Watt hasn’t beaten a top 15 tackle in 4 years lol. If nobody has the stats on this I will need to do homework to see who he got sacks on.

That all said, while Alex Highsmith will continue to grow into his own, T.J. Watt is still that dude. As you said, Highsmith may be a better pass rusher at this point but T.J Watt has simply too many other forms of versatility to off set such. Both are hell on wheels to deal with.

The only reason that's correct is that Taylor's rookie year, 1981, they didn't include sacks as a stat, although he had 9.5. In his first 7 years, Taylor really had 82.5 sacks and 8 interceptions, but only 2 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in 101 games.
TJ currently has 85.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, 25 forced fumbles and 10 fumble recoveries in 93 games..

I actually looked this up recently to try and see why Watt played primarily from the left side while players like Garrett and Parsons move around more. Turns out it's by his choice.

 

Cowboys roots if teams are blocking him so good why is TJ one of the fastest players to get so many sacks so quickly?

 

Watt isn't an athletic freak like Parsons or Shazier. Watt is well on his way to the HOF in his current position. Why would any Steeler fan want to change Watt's position at this point?

Unlike Highsmith....TJ hardly gives up contain. Highsmith still has problems with this.

 

Yeah some fans use that argument as well. Parsons/bosa/Garret face the hardest tackles while watt faces scrubs.

Von miller played left side too and is comparable to watt in stats first 7 seasons.

 

Intuitively I was thinking it is better for him to be able to see the ball to get the strip sacks and bat passes. I didn’t think about him reading the QB eyes but that makes sense.
