Do you feel comfortable and confident when it's a one score game in the fourth quarter?

Because, even if they are awful in the first 3 quarter (even yesterday when the Rams had over 200 more yards than the Steelers in the first 3 quarter), if it's a one score game at the start of the fourth quarter, the steelers always seem to find a way to win, no matter how

It's been like this since 2021 at least, they have an incredible record in close games, the only exception was the first half of the season in 2022 but outside of that, the Steelers have almost always won the one score games

But of course, the Steelers can't win by a blowout, only 3 wins by 2 scores or more since 2021 and when they lose it is often by a lot but when this is close in the fourth quarter, I am very comfortable and confident they will win

With Kenny Clutch behind center? Absolutely!!! His comebacks are not a fluke, he has that clutch gene which is a rarity in today's NFL. I would, however, like to see better play in quarters 1-3 and more TD passes. But I think that will come in time.

The Steelers have been outscored by 30 points and out gained by 660 yards this year but they are 4-2. They just hang around and keep it close and don't panic when the game is on the line. When a team doesn't turn the ball over, has a splash play defense and a strong kicking game then you can win a lot of football games playing that way.

But...how will that play in the post-season assuming we make it there? I'm glad we're 4-2 and essentially in a tie for first place in the division, but at some point we've got to establish consistency for an entire game. Kenny Clutch has to pick his game up the first three quarters. We've got to establish the running game AND stop the run. Otherwise, it will be just another non-losing season where we sneak into the playoffs and get hammered again. I'll remain hopeful.

Your right about that. This is Marty Schottenheimer type of football. It is designed to win most of your football games but it doesn't translate well in the playoffs when you have to face the top teams that can put a lot of points on the board.

Yes, I am confident in close games because our QB has proven that he has what it takes to win them and the defense has proven time and time again that they will stand up and give us a shot to win or close it out when it matters.

However, I am a bit concerned when we start to play teams of the highest caliber or playoff games out of division. We always play the Ravens tough, but what happens when we start getting into games against the Chiefs, or the Dolphins, etc.? Can this offense score enough to win those games? This is a team that struggles mightily to score points, and holding those types of teams to a low enough number to give us a chance isn't easy.

Yeah I agree...But if the steelers win the AFC north, they are very likely not face the chiefs or Dolphins in the wild card round...We will see what the steelers will do this week vs the 5-2 Jaguars

yes - right now, it's one and done and maybe a blow out. YOU MUST SCORE POINTS in the first Q.

we suck early, find ways to win later. Blame Tomlin

no way to go anywhere in the NFL.

At least for Marty, his offenses often had a very solid running game with a dominant defense...The Steelers right now and since 2021, the only thing they are great at is sacking the opposing QB when Watt is in the lineup

Outside of that, they are not very good but their opponent often let the Steelers hanging on for different reason like yesterday with the Rams kicker or the Ravens receivers in week 5 or the 2 defensive TDs vs Browns

It's just crazy that the Steelers are 4-2 despite being 31st in yards in offense and 30th in defense...That would never have happened with a head coach like Marty!

I am not confident, and it's not so much because of the execution or coaching. But it's having that feeling that a big penalty or a bad bounce of the ball can change the outcome of the game, especially in the 4th quarter. You can overcome those in the first 3 quarters, but not in crunch time....ESPECIALLY with the way the officiating is these days. Yesterday for example, I still believe we would have won if we didn't get the favored spot. But still, that could have cost us the game that late in the game. I don't like having a chance of leaving it in the refs hands.

Hasn’t this been true for the entire Tomlin era?

    I wouldn't say I'm confident. Optimistic? Yes.

Dolphins put up more points than anyone, and have even broken some NFL records. How has that Helped them everytime they play a good team???
KC lost to the Lions. Eagles lost to the Jets. Any team can be beaten. Rams, Chargers, and Indy all are in the top 10 of scoring. They all have losing records.

I never feel confident, what STD says may be true, but in today's NFL no one score game, even a 10 pt lead is something you can feel confident about with how quickly a team can get down the field and how the ref's seem to insert themselves into so many game endings. I'm not a conspiracy person, nor do I think it's some command from NY to keep the games closer, I do think it's a problem the NFL is not to concerned about, until the issue starts getting heat when calls are bad and popular teams are knocked out of the playoffs, or to many games become controversial in a specific period.

We have witnessed already in this short season where good teams lose to bad, nad good players just do not produce and it leads to a loss...that is part of the game. What I do feel is when your O is struggling as much as ours is, and they click enough to mash out a hard fought..even ugly win, it can build character and confidence. We have good players, however for the most part we have not been good, if they can build around this ugliness this team could be formidible, but the key is build.

I think you've been a fan long enough to know the answer to that. I feel like the Steelers give me mini heart attacks every fourth quarter. It seems like it's very rare when I feel at ease during a Steelers game.

No. Not confident the pattern will hold.

However, all that matters is we somehow get our offense up to being at least average before the regular season ends, and if so, then make the playoffs.

There is time and we are not in a deep hole in wins/losses like last year. Better positioned go places IF our offense somehow improves.

Comfortable, absolutely not. It's the weekly coronary. Confident, yes. If the Steelers have the ball and are down by one score, under 2 minutes, I always say "If they can't do this they can't be my Steelers."

That's the NFL though. It's never enough to get enough points to beat the other team. You have to get enough additional points to beat the refs too. I'm going to go out on a limb and bet the Steelers get seven on the opening drive and another three in the first quarter.
