1st of all the taunting penalty #18 got was a dead ball foul, and shouldn't have been off set.

2nd the taunting penalty is a joke! And shouldn't even be a penalty in the league.

These players play hard make plays and should be able to say something to other players they just beat..We have all done it when we were kids, or even in a pick up game..

3rd If you get upset when a player taunts another player.. your prob get offended a lot in life. And probably need to be be mentally tougher

Taunting leads to fights on the field. That is a player safety issue. It can also lead to ejections, which can take star players out of the game. I think it is stupid that they loosened the rules on celebrations of touchdowns and turnovers but added a taunting rule, but there is some logic to the latter.

Regarding calling it offsetting, I've always found that confusing. Apparently, by rule, it was correct.

Unfortunately, this has been a major problem with Diontae since 2020. It has not gotten any better. George though is a bit different given his history dating back to Georgia.

This all said, given what they provide.. have to live with it. Hope self discipline can kick in. Not ideal I know but that really is the only option.

Right, the whistle was blown so play was over, 1st down should've stood, and moved the ball back 15 yards after the taunt. The refs blew that big time.

I hate all the penalties in the game today. Unfortunately players can no longer self govern as in if a diminutive wr taunted in the past he would get hammered Crossing the middle of the field. Defenses can’t inflict discipline on wr’s anymore so the zebras have to do it. I for one hate how soft the nfl has become. In addition some of the pass intereference penalties and roughing the passer penalties are so rediculous it ruins the game. I mean if a defenders hand brushes up against tge QB’s helmet it is a penalty but yet a rb can put his head down and run through contact. It doesn’t make any sense. If the penalities at least made sense and weren’t so discretionary based on the refs judgement it would make for a much better game. I feel like it is more common now for the outcome of games to be impacted now by flags than ever. I hate when flags are thrown late in games on important drives to affect the outcome of games. I don’t like them grown even if it benefits the Steelers unless it is blatant.

Couldn’t care less about the rule and these are grown ass men not ****ing children. My personal preference is for our players to act like they’ve been there before. Walk softly and carry a big stick

I agree with you but I think if he had caught the ball and made the line to gain then it would have been a 1st down and dead ball. The PI was the issue which I don’t agree with at all.

you can bet McVey told those x Steelers to provoke the WR’s into this. You just gotta rise above it.

This seemed like a really awful weekend for the stripes.... a lot of terrible calls. Even changing the game outcome for Indy.
I don't like to pile on those guys too much... but I did note, they had a really bad weekend.

RE: Pittsburgh... I can't explain the way they called them.. but Tomlin has to get it into their heads not to do those things.
I like the way He took Johnson and Pickens aside for that moment... I completely get Pickens lapse, but you need to have that discipline.
It always blows my mind with the block in the back crap.. if you see their name, don't touch them. It's simple.

Also, Motion is the most abused call by the stripes.

Yes, the rule is stupid to enforce on grown men, but it is a rule (and a we'll known rule) nonetheless, and players need to be disciplined enough not to do it

This is what I didn't understand. The play always stands, and then the penalty is added after the result of the play.

I don't kow how the ref were able to change the rules during the middle of a game. I don't know if you can challenge a ref decision on it simply being wrong and ask for New York to review the rule book?

That's Mike Tomlin's job to do that. The time of patting them on the head and sending them back out there has passed. I think if it happens again, the offending player should be taken out of the game, get chewed out, and stand next to the coach for a few plays. Maybe a few series if the team is comfortably ahead. The only thing many of these players understand is to take away their playing time so they are not in the spotlight. It's the only thing many of them seem to worry about.

Sure, you would like to see some self control and self awareness on the field, but sometimes young men need to be shown what is acceptable behavior and what is not in regard to hurting the team. Tomlin needs to make them understand and comply.

The players know the rules regardless if they agree with them. They are professionals and should be responsible enough to follow the rules.

Why does the coach have to teach adults to act like adults?

That problem with that is they can't really afford to do that. Pickens and DJ are the only two offensive weapons we have, so it won't do us any good having them watch from the sidelines, even for a few plays

Because it's their job to do so if they can't figure it out themselves.

Some adults act like children until they are taught to not act that way.

I believe there is always time to teach lessons. These same players are going to be on the roster for years. Maybe keeping them out of a game for a few plays now will make them more reliable players for all the games that follow over the coming years.

The thing is we had a gift, as is the case with many PI calls, that call was pretty light. To taunt on that is just lame, it's not just ref calls (or non calls) against the Steelers, it's throughout the league. When they give you one do not be stupid, get your butt back to the huddle and play ball.

Not in the case of a double foul, which can be created by a combination of a live ball and a dead ball foul on the same down. In the case of a double foul they offset. Only exception is when one is a 15 yard penalty and one is a 5. In that case only the 15 yard penalty is enforced and the 5 is disregarded. The refs were correct. They almost always are when it comes to application of the rules even if their judgement sometimes stinks.

Some people just can’t be taught no matter who the coach is. It’s TBD on Pickens.

He acknowledged his mistake after the game and his reasoning is understandable. Lessons learned.

True, but if they didn’t need someone telling them what to do and keeping an ion, they would need a coach at all.

It wasn't a block in the back, it was a crackback block (aka The Hines Ward Rule). You can't throw a block while moving towards your own goal line, made famous when JuJu sent Vontaze Burfict into the next time zone. It was a dumb block, as all Pickens had to do was get in the guy's way, but at least it was an aggressive block, and you have to like that in a wide receiver.

I kind of agree with the original poster. Taunting should only be leading to fights if players don't have any self-control. These are all grown men and they should be able to take a little bit of name calling and jaw jacking without going all Jekyll and Hyde on them.
