TJ showed some great hands today on that interception and he knows what to do with the football once he has it in his hands. I know he’s invaluable as a defensive player, but who else would like to see some plays designed specifically for TJ at the TE position? The Texans used to do that with JJ and I think it could be effective in the right situations with TJ. What do you think?

Agree. But it’d be fun to see TJ in a goal line package.

Maybe, but I'd hate to see him get hurt on something like that. They are already trying to limit his snaps. Also, he's got some serious damage to that one finger from the Ravens game.

Being able to catch is very different than being able to run routes, block then release, knowing who to block, fight off defenders to get open, etc. I have no idea if he could play TE or not, so I'll just go ahead and say lets leave our best player right where he is and not mess with a good thing

What I had in mind was maybe a gimmick play at the goal line, not in a normal package. Even bring him in as a decoy. He’s got good hands and something at the goal line wouldn’t require precise route running. He’s a good enough athlete to pull something like that off. I don’t disagree that we don’t want to mess with a good thing but maybe make it a late season surprise or something.

    Not a good idea IMO
He already misses plays on defense, getting a breather because he’s exhausted. And deservedly so. Don’t need any time, practice, or energy taken away from his main job.

Do we even have a tight end, been a while since they have run any plays to use them. The middle of the field remains largely un-used.

Heyward is a tight end, though they move him around. They did take a shot over the middle to him, but the linebacker got deep enough in the zone to tip it away.

Also, the big pass play to Pickens on the final drive was over the middle.

Well prior to this game. I was saying in parody that we did not have a tight end. Seems like they never get the ball, or they are stuck in pass protection.

TJ Watt did play TE at Wisconsin before switching to EDGE. That said, I am of the same mind as @SteelerGlenn@SteelerGlenn. To piggy back off of his point....

.... will someone send an SOS for Darnell Washington?!?! No seriously... is it that difficult to construct plays for someone who is 6'7 with freakshow ability?!?!

No! Hell no! We are trying to limit the downs he plays and get him through a long season. He has a history of injury, no need the make it worse.

Greatest defensive Steeler of all-time once he's done. Doesn't matter if some are partial to players they grew up with, they're biased. Strictly on making plays and effecting a game, he'll go down as #1. Nobody cares about his stats, it's his effect on sooo many games. If he stays healthy, he's the one.

lol, I just worry about him getting injured and if I’m a team playing the Steelers, I’d love to let my LB’s lay wood to their best pass rusher.

I have been watching the Steelers for over 55 years, he does
Have the Dynasty players mentality. Best Steeler player since Woodson.

Washington is in around half the time. Against the Rams, Heyward’s usage went way up (86%) and Rodney Williams got some snaps.

if we need a Watt to play TE, I think they should call JJ

The Pats used to use Mike Vrabel as a goal line TE. I absolutely wouldn’t do it with TJ though.
