If your center is losing his battle being bull rushed it is pretty hard stepping up into pocket.
I wanted the center out of Minnesota at 48 last year it didn't happen.

Jones got schooled a couple times but didn't seem to repeat mistakes and he is a road grader in the run game.

Remember Rookes young players are still prone to mistakes, they will get better.

Schmitz would have been a great pick in the second round, but it is tough to argue with taking Porter or Benton.

He would have been the Benton Pick.

I saw some projections that had him as high as the beginning of the first round, but I agree. I think defensive tackle was a big need and it is surprising to see Cole's play drop off this much, so I think Benton was the right decision there. I would have been happy to see them take either guy.

The entire OL played better vs the Ravens than they had in previous weeks. I hope that is a sign of what's to come. Aaron Donald may feast in week7, but I'm holding onto hope.

John Micheal Schmitz.... man oh man... I feel you on him!!

Hell, I would also add Joe Tippmamn to that list as well. Luke Wylper is another I wanted; dropping to the 7th Round even!!

Sums up my thoughts after watching him in game and on the All 22. More good than bad. Clearly nowhere near to where he wants to be but he will no doubt get better. That isn't my problem with Broderick Jones.

Will Tomlin permit him to do so?! He didn't with Kevin Dotson even though Dotson was better than Matt Feiler. I personally see no reason why he would stick with Jones when Moore gets healthy.

Darnell Washington did not look very good in the running game on these clips. Heyward was OK.
We are missing Friiermuth a lot.

Muth is a terrible blocker and that's supposed to be Mt. Washington's strong suit. Muth is starting to feel like one of those guys who just can't stay healthy for any meaningful length of time. I'm a little worried about his career long-term.

AD is coming , that is for sure. The Rats DLINE is not great - good, but not great.

that said, Jones is the man, moving forward. and he should be

Not sure what Broderick Jones getting his debut at LT has to do with the Center or TEs or OC.

Jones came in vs our biggest rival and played well. Now we are on the bye week and it gives the Steelers a chance to get players healthy, and re-focus/re-evaluate on moving upward and onward.

I know many are down on Moore, but he has given up just 1 sack this season. That sack was the play where Pickett got hurt after running into pressure. 2OTs playing well is never a bad thing.

Agreed about Muth’s blocking. But at least he is a good receiver. Washington better become a really good blocker because he hasn’t shown the ability to be much as a receiver, yet.
Heyward is a good receiver but is physically Moore suited to be an H-back than true TE.

Where is this Muth is never healthy thing coming from? Dude has played in 16 of 17 games in 2021 and 2022. He is on track to return after the bye and there is a good chance he plays in 16 games this season as well.

Muth is our pass catcher. That's just who he is. Let him chip or bump and release, and go out and catch passes. I don't know what Wash is yet. He wasn't used a ton at Georgia, and when he was it looked like plays specifically designed to get him the ball.

If we somehow draft the other GA TE, Brock Bowers, that's a different story.

Back to Brod Jones....He has 121 snaps at OT without a penalty. That impresses me.
Dan Moore has 187 snaps at OT without a penalty this season. That is impressive as well.
Chuks has 300 snaps at OT this season with 5 penalties. 3 of those were declined, so 2 against.

That is improvement over last season.

The dude has also had multiple concussions and is currently out for an extended period of time with a soft tissue injury. The multiple concussions really have me concerned about his durability and longevity.

    1. By extended period of time you mean 1 game, it was reported that he will be back after the bye.

    2. Muth's injury history:

    11-28-21
Concussion - Suffered a concussion during the Week 12 loss to the Bengals. He was cleared for the next game.

    12-19-21
Concussion - Suffered a head injury in the Week 15 win over the Titans.

    7-28-22
Hamstring - Missed 10 days of practice.

    10-9-22
    Concussion - No games missed.

    1-8-23
    MCL Sprain - No surgery

    9-10-23
Sternum Bruise - NO games missed

    10-1-23
    Hamstring - 1 game missed

Seems like a standard NFL career.....aside from the concussions, nothing overly serious.

Concussions are a part of football. Half the players probably get them without even knowing it. The only way to avoid them is just not to play.

It’s the concussions that concern me the most. Remember Ladarius Green? Very good TE who had a promising career derailed by concussions. Hope I’m wrong and Muth has a long and successful NFL career, helping the Steelers win multiple Super Bowls along the way.

The difference with Ladarius Green was that he had a history of concussions before he got here and missed significant time. Once he got here is when he wasn't able to continue. When he was with the Chargers, he had 3 concussions within a calendar year, and they were significant and he missed time. That's likely where his real damage was done. He was complaining of recurring headaches and had to step away from the game.

It's a shame, because he was a hell of a player when healthy and able to go. Hopefully, he is doing well in life.

Based on your research and your post above, Muth had 3 concussions in a calendar year as well so I think Ladarius Green is a pretty good comparison. Hopefully, Muth won't have any lasting repercussions and won't continue to have concussions on a recurring basis. We need him to be healthy for the long haul because he's a very good TE and a great security blanket for Pickett, much like Heath was for Ben.
