I thought the following comments by Ben were pretty fascinating:

“The passing game feels very non-existent,” Roethlisberger said. “I want to see more. … Where’s the concept passes? Where’s the choice route with an in behind it, with your out-breaking bench-route or semi-routes. Where’s a skinny post?

“A two-beater on a side and a single-beater on the other side, and you’re trying to work high-low. You’re trying to inside-out a guy. You’re trying to throw maybe an empty quick game. Not just throwing a swing to a back, or a flat to a back. Where’s a curl route? I haven’t seen a 12-yard curl route which is a staple in the NFL. … How about a 10-yard hitch route?”

We’ve had a lot of debate on this board about whether or not it’s the chicken (Matt Canada) or the egg (Kenny Pickett). While Pickett certainly has his warts right now, I thought Ben’s comments about the lack of diversity in the playcalling was pretty telling.

It was time Ben started telling the truth about Canada!

I thought it was obvious that Canada is the greater of two evils?! Again, Kenny has regressed from year one but hopefully can right the ship. Jury is already in for Matt Canada.

The sooner his ass is gone, the better it will be for everyone.

I thought that was obvious too, but I think there are several brethren (and sistren lol) on this MB that seem to disagree.

Yeah, the latest episode of his Pod cast he really goes into the offensive schemes, and explains where the Steelers are really missing the boat. Like WR screens, Ben said he used to love those calls, but for some reason Canada and company are not calling them this year.

If there is a man that knows a thing or 2 about how to put points on the board, it's (soon to be)HoF QB Ben Roethlisberger. If the power in control won't listen to BigBen, wtf is he gonna listen to?

I HATE the back shoulder fade too! It’s good to have it in the arsenal and to use it at times if you have the right matchup (i.e. GP on anybody, lol), but Canada pulls it out one or two times a series it seems.

Ben is so right. Hand off the ball to Harris a couple of times up the middle just to get stuffed, then a pass down the sideline to a WR. Same thing over and over again. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this offensive "scheme" won't work in the NFL

Give Me one person on Here that wants to keep Canada???
Some on here aren't sure even after Canada leaves how much better the Qb will be.
I believe You are confusing the two. Because I have yet to see one person say We should resign Canada.
With that said ....I have seen a bit more from KFP every week....even if it's not showing on the score board. I believe He almost is getting the hang of zone. Now if He would just hang in the pocket a little bit more.

They should hire Ben as OC, since he has all the answers

I believe Ben knows what He is talking about, but what He doesn't know .....is how much of what they do, or don't do is on KFPs abilities, and , or ability to grasp it right now. Only the coaches know this.

Did I strike a nerve, lol? There are a lot of folks who seem to spend a lot of time criticizing Pickett and rarely (if ever) criticize Canada’s, or any other coach’s, playcalling. They’re here, STD, just look around. Shoot, you’ve even been much more critical of Kenny than you have of Canada this season even though you’ve said, and I believe you, that you didn’t want to hire Canada in the first place. You kind of remind me of my oldest son who used to like to debate and argue just for the sake of disagreeing. He may agree with what I’m saying 100%, but took the opposite side of the issue just to argue, lol. I thought for sure he’d end up being an attorney, but as it turned out he’s actually a minister.

Did You not read what I said.
I don't worry about Canada because I know He's gone after this year. I leave that for everyone else to worry about. I worry about the qb who I know will still be here.
Most of us(I believe all of us know Canada isn't that good)....some of us said it was stupid decision to even hire Him(me). That doesn't mean that the Qb will be good. I pray He's good ....I hope He's good....I see bits of things He's getting better at.
Doesn't mean He will though. Example: Giants fans knew their OC sucked, and He did, and all they need was a better HC, and OC and Danny would be better. How's that working out??? Totally different scheme, and coaches, and He looks the same. Some said Trubisky just needed different schemes. 4 HCs , and ocs later how's that working out????

I think a real OC will do wonders for Kenny. I’ve had more doubts about him this year than I thought I’d have, but I still believe he’s our QB for the intermediate term anyway and hopefully for the long term…10 years. There is no reason that 4th quarter Kenny can’t show up from time to time in quarters 1-3. At any rate, the next OC hire had better be someone who has the knowledge, experience and intelligence to help elevate Pickett’s play to the next level.

Ben is not qualified for this job but he would still be better than Canada..We saw that in 2021 when we scored almost half of our points in 2021 in the fourth quarter when Ben had more responsibility with the play calling

Put Kenny in Shanahan’s offense and he’d be thriving. Not to take anything away from Purdy.

Those are the same words you see me saying a lot.
Pickett is a 2nd year man... my God, he is throwing sometimes 51 times a game.
    But he is still raw.

Note: One thing I see that drives me insane, and he needs a QB coach to stop this bad habit.
He telegraphs routes - He has got to learn to look off the coverage.
    Very bad habit.

there is no basis for saying this. Now - I would say that if Purdy was in our offense, he would look bad too. But we have no basis for what Kenny could do in a real offense.
