At this stage, why would the Stillas consider tanking to begin with? Sure it's not been pretty, but they're 3-2 and in first with the 3rd Seed.

I do not want them to tank either (ever) but I have seen it mentioned. Just thought Caleb's attitude was bad.

What is Total Pro Sports? Who is Howard Cosmell? Most importantly, why would we take either of them seriously about this?

The list in the story makes no sense. At some point, a college football star will stay in college and rake in the NIL money rather than signing with whatever team drafts him. At some point, the league is going to have to change the rules, perhaps allowing teams to keep a player's draft rights longer, or the combination of the rookie salary cap and NIL money are going to make a mess of things.

Who mentioned tanking? I do know that Cowterd said to trade TJ Watt, Pickens and three 1st rounders for Williams :roflmao:

If the story is true, then I can understand the criticism. Then again, why should he take less money to play somewhere he doesn't want to go?

On the other hand, maybe playing behind the Giants' offensive line would serve him right.

That was 40 years ago. It has happened a time or two since then, but it is rare. It could be come a lot more common with NIL money, which makes the threat of returning to college much more realistic. I imagine Williams is making a lot more money this year than any of the rookie quarterbacks in the NFL.

No, they just go 9-8 only to get blown out in the playoffs, and that's the best case scenario

I don't believe anyone (that I can find) is making more than what a 1st round pick is making. Also if You get seriously injured.....bye-bye NFL money.
Although like You kind of talked about ....if it does....there will be some rule changes.

Outside of some false feelings....what is the difference once You make the playoffs to the team that won just one playoff game, or two playoff games if you don't make it to the SB ....to the team that made it to the playoffs, and lost???
It's....make the playoffs, and make the SB.
Be honest would anyone be any happier if We made it to the playoffs, and just won one playoffs game. I know some will say....yes of course, but go back, and look what those same people say after we get beat in the next playoff game.
I know I read what was said last time we lost an AFC Championship game. They were no happier.

To hell with him, we don't need a prima
Well, I for one would be happier if they actually won a playoff game, at least it would show that they are getting closer to their ultimate goal of winning a SB

I didn't say I thought it was a good idea. It is short-sighted thinking. I don't know what the limits are for NIL, but there are college athletes making a lot more than any NFL rookie. The thing is, that won't last long and it pushes back the start of the clock until they can get a second NFL contract. As you wrote, there is also the risk of injury.

Now, as for tanking, don't count on Pittsburgh doing so. Hell, should Pittsburgh even finish that bad, Kenny can kiss his job goodbye. Drake Maye or even Bo Nix would be superior options.

Not from a talent standpoint but from an intangibles one.

Problem with letting a team keep draft rights is hell, I'd have used our fourth rounder last year on Caleb. I mean, if you get 2 or 3 years of draft rights, whats to keep teams from using their later round draft picks to pick from next year's players, or even the year after that?

They can't draft a player until he declares for the draft or he has exhausted his college eligibility, so they can't do that.

College intangibles don't always translate into pro intanglbles. I'm not sure I would consider what we've seen in that area from Maye and Nix as superior to what Pickett showed at Pitt. That would be the valid comparison.

I remember a time when most people were arguing kids should stay in school and shouldn't be allowed to enter the draft early. How times have changed.

Now, if a kid wants to stay his entire eligibility, he can. Finances are less of a concern. I don't see that as a bad thing.

That said, I think the NFL should have a 5 year rule. The team that drafts you had rights to you for 5 years unless they trade you. You cannot play for anyone else until that obligation is fulfilled (or you're traded). I know it's like that now, but it needs to be made ironclad. Eliminate the chicanery.

Maybe take rookies off counting against the salary cap. Pay them from a scale based on draft position, playing time, and performance bonuses.
