Did Pickett change the play?

So, let me preface what I'm about to say by clearly stating that I think Canada should've been fired yesterday, if not two years ago.

Now, with that said, I think this clip of his reaction is somewhat misleading. To me, it looks like he's about to react appropriately, but we don't get to see it because the clip ends before we get to see it. Rewatch the video and look closely at the last second before it cuts and you'll that he's about to cheer. Yes, his staff are reacting enthusiastically in real time, but I wonder if he's not willing to cheer until he's certain that it's not going to be called back on some kind of stupid penalty. I think once he sees that the TD is clean, I think we would probably see him looking just as enthused as everyone else - but, again, it's just that we don't get to see it, save for a split second at the end.

Look, I can't stand the guy, but I'm just being objective. Even if Kenny changed the play, I just doubt that he would've been mad about it. Of course, I could be wrong - none of us can really know what he's thinking or feeling. I'm just trying to be fair and calling it like I see it.

 

Or maybe it took him that long to process and realize what happened.

 

That would be great instead of sending them back to Al Riveron in NY. But alas I will put odds it will never happen...

 

I agree he changed the play. And yes he was as well as Trubisky under wraps last season. He needs to do this more due to the bone head calling the plays especially when he calls a tell running play and the defense isn't tricked and has 8 in the box. Motion is the tell. But what do you expect from a guy who shouldn't be calling plays in the NFL lets alone college. Tomlin loves his dummy's...

Maybe he thinks if he plans badly enough, Tomlin will get fired making Canada the head coach.

Changing protection isn’t really changing the play. Kenny has always had the power to change protections.

 

No. He didn’t call his own play or audible. He just called out protections like any other play. As for Canada’s reaction or lack there of it’s not like he has a lot of time to celebrate. We’re going for two? Crap I’ve got 15 seconds to get the next play in

 

I can't actually believe the time this is getting. Who in their right mind ....who knows He on the hot seat would not be happy about a score no matter how it was done. You people are reaching.....there was actually a check/audible early in the game that nobody is talking about.....why because it doesn't make good talk, but we are discussing at length one nobody is sure about????

 

agreed - can't rely on some dumb quick video clip, reminds me of all the snap judgements with police altercations.

Kenny probably had the right to audible if he saw the desired coverage - is that so hard for people to understand? they know the Rats go to ZERO from time to time, they had prepared for it.

Funny how some that stamp their feet and tantrum on about how on a message board people can talk about whatever they want become the most outraged when somebody does just that and tells them they're acting like a child.

When asked about the call, Pickett told reporters he made the change at the line of scrimmage.

"It was protection and then route," Pickett said. "They went zero. I wanted to make sure we were protected and gave George the route. He went and made a great play. It’s something that we’ve worked all week on, so it’s awesome when you put a lot of time into something and it comes up in a crucial moment like that to win a divisional game in the two-minute drill.
