NFL Officiating has become a laugher since the 2020 CBA. Granted, there were some legendary gaffes in NFL History regarding blown calls during the 2010s but thus far?! The 2020s has been already off to a rip roaring start for inconsistency!!

Warren went nuts after the score o I'm guessing he moved Warren into protection mode?

Never seen a guy work so hard to diminish a fun day. Maybe go get laid or get a blow up doll?

Good luck with some of these guys. They’re not happy unless they’re unhappy. Great win against our division rival yesterday, but it’s never good enough. If we don’t beat them by 50, have 300 yards rushing, 200 yard receivers, and a quarterback, with a perfect passer rating, oh and also we’ve got to completely break the will of the other team. After we beat them, we go to the 50 yard line and drink their blood from a human skull. Well, then it wasn’t good enough.

Where in the 2020 CBA does it include something pertaining to officials/officiating? I've not read it word for word, but have thumbed through certain sections at different times, including the table of contents, and I've never seen anything on it. The CBA pertains to the division of revenue between league and players, the benefits afforded the latter, and an agreement of policies and procedures to be followed by the two sides.

I'm not sure where officiating comes in, but I could have missed something.

    Oh no no no!

Nothing in writing regarding how officiating has been. I am just making an opinion on my own observations from what I have seen since 2020. For example, in the Chiefs-Vikings game, L'Jarius Sneed clearly should have been flagged for DPI. However, the refs told him, on national television, you are not allowed to do that. Let me repeat that; an NFL Official told a player he is not permitted to enact a certain way during a play. Given how that explanation means that Sneed was performing an illegal offense, therefore a penalty, why wasn't the penalty called?! Mind you, this is just one "WTF" moment this season; Jawaan Taylor's repeated False Starts on Opening Night being the mere cherry on top. Oddly enough and, as egregious as those False Start misses were, DeShaun Watson not being ejected for making physical contact with an NFL Official is arguably the most "WTF" non call in 2023 thus far; a year where said "WTF" non calls keep getting worse and worse and worse!!

Ah, gotcha. I wasn't defending the officiating (I remember wondering how somebody on the crew wasn't getting beeped from NY over Taylor; at one point the entire broadcast crew and commentating official were discussing it), just thought you were pointing to the CBA having something to do with it.

    I understand!! :drinks:

All this said, if there is something I have noticed very much so since 2020, the Sports Media usage of the term "judgement" has risen greatly. I was always under the impression that certain calls, like DPI, Holding or even Facemask, were concrete; no judgement needed. However, within the past three seasons, even these calls are now getting the "judgement" treatment; calls that should be as is instead be conflated... there by placing key moments of the games into the Officials hands!

Again, I do understand the human element of the sport; calls will be missed by accident for it happens. I don't expect calls to be made 100% of the time for the games themselves would take FOREVER. I am expecting consistency though when it comes to the more obvious ones though.

That old argument of "it would take games lasting forever to get all the calls right" is total BS. Ever watch a college game? They do get calls mostly right and it takes far less the time as the NFL. That is just a BS excuse for them to be allowed to cheat when they want.

    Um...

You see how many False Starts Jawaan Taylor had on Opening Night?! Furthermore, the NFL is a much different beast than College Football. It isn't just the players that are different; the speed of the game is much different. Same goes for the Officiating. College Officiating and Professional Officiating are as different as the gap between heaven and earth.

Lame excuse. College uses instant replay and almost always gets it right, even for the unnecessary roughness for which players get pulled out of the game, they usually get that right.

Not an excuse. It is a fact.

For that matter, take a look at Bryce Young. A Heisman Winner now 0-5 in the NFL. Why would the difference in Officiating be any different?! Regardless though, this doesn't give the NFL Officials a free pass; something I have stated already.

However, to believe Officiating in general is easy is simply untrue.

100% push-off that I was surprised the DB didn't work the ref for the flag. He stiff armed the push off to create the separation no doubt about it. I thought for sure the flag was coming. Glad it didn't and guys go back and forth all day and get away with things but the zebras didn't love us yesterday so I thought how did the ref not throw the flag. The non holding calls were ridiculous and the players like the NBA need to start working the ref's like Jordan did and Brady did.

The zebra's are untouchable. Teflon. If a bad call ends a game in a loss and they deem it a bad call a memo is sent from the league saying:

The speed of the game is a factor but when a zebra is STANDING there and sees an infraction and has Ray Charles glasses on this is a concern. And it happens over and over and over. Its league wide. And getting worse.

If they had an official in a press box it would be amazing what would be seen.

If a coach or player criticizes the zebra's they get a deduction from the paycheck.

They owed him one after missing the obvious PI in the end zone earlier on Arthur Maulett.

We just won a big game and this is how you act?
Why don’t you buzz off again and show back up in 6 months under a new name only to repeat the process again.

I hope he did call that on his own. Which brings me to the subject of Mutiny In The Field. Call our own plays at will. If they work great, if they don’t we a no worse than we are now. If the Rooney’s, Tomlin and anyone else that has some say so what. Would they fire anyone? I don’t think so. If anything is said from the people mentioned above just tell them we are out here to win and accept nothing less. Let’s Go Steelers.

Hence why I have been an advocate for such a move; either have a SkyCam for Officiating or have refs in the Press Box. The SkyCam did get some steam a couple years back but nothing major has surfaced in terms of developments.

That was so frustrating to watch Canada kept calling run plays on first and second downs, it didn't work the whole game call something else , I wanted to see some quick hitting passes on first and second down.
