Blast it’s well documented how we have open receivers repeatedly and Kenny is either making bad throws or poor decisions. If those two things weren’t happening then you can point at the oc and say it’s a scheme issue, our receivers don’t get separation, or a bad play call, but that isn’t the case. BK starts making better decisions and more accurate passes and our last two games look significantly different. Until BK improves expect more of the same from our opponents.

Strummer, you're a smart guy and a knowledgeable fan. Here's your sample size...

Since he's become OC, Matt Canada has not produced a 400 yard game with 4 different quarterbacks. Every team in the league has done it at least three times and nine teams have done it ten or more times.
Since he's become OC, Matta Canada has failed to produce 20 points of offensive production in over 70% of those games.
I can give you a three year sample size that says Matt Canada absolutely SUCKS!

Kenny isn’t playing well and Canada’s coaching is below the line. How do you not see that? Did you even watch the piece I posted? That’s unacceptable and it’s not acceptable for even a small samples size. Come on, man. Have an open mind.

This is the question I wondered while watching that video (apart from whether this guy has a weird obsession with Air Jordans or if he was taping it from the backroom of a Foot Locker with an aversion to cardboard boxes).

Per Pro Football Reference the Steelers ran 732 plays from the shotgun in 2022, passing ~74% of the the time. They ran 377 from under center, running on ~81% of those.

I still think there's more to it though, as a random sampling of other teams considered solid offensively showed relatively similar splits:
    • San Francisco - 73% pass from shotgun (603); 77% run from UC (444)
    • Kansas City - 71% pass from shotgun (858); 73% run from UC (236)
    • Cincinnati - 75% pass from shotgun (807); 78% run from UC (253)
Lack of adequate play design/complexity, formations, audible/hot read/progression options, etc. can combine to make an offense stunted and easier to read by the defense as well.

And of course the players are making their fair share of mistakes in execution. But I think Canada's system needs to go.

You mean Lawrence, the guy who in his 2nd year threw for over 4,000 yards, 25 TDs (only 8 int) at over 66% completion? THAT Trevor Lawrence? Let's see Kenny throw for over 4,000 yards and 25 TDs and we'd be thrilled with him in his 2nd year. Kenny's on pace to throw for less than 4,000 yds, 17 TDs and over 26 int. And this is also his 2nd year. So before you go throwing stones at Trevor, I'd be a little more selective. KP is throwing for 227 yds a game. Total trash.

Oh good lord. First I believe it’s 3 quarterbacks and not 4(Ben,mitch, and Pickett). Secondly statistics are a wonderful tool, but they can be used to paint a picture while ignoring significant details. That’s exactly what has happened here. It completely ignores the fact that with Ben under center the offense was catered to what Ben wanted. It also ignores the 15 different offensive line combinations. That in addition to Ben’s deteriorating skill set. Then comes last year where we have a whole new list of problems. New members of the oline, new o-line coach, two new quarterbacks…. The list goes on and on.

You weren’t crying about scheme, explosiveness, creativity during preseason. Now big k is facing real nfl players and struggling mightily to say the least. Our last two games would be drastically different if our franchise qb was playing at a professional level

One big problem is they don’t trust Pickett they won’t let him change the play at the line at all so he’s ****ed ! They are not going to the SB probably not the playoffs, let Pickett learn how to read defenses at the line. But they won’t cause of Tomlins ego and no losing seasons . Wasting some good years by great defenders !

If He was on our team then I would find a video of that, but because He's not even in our Division....as of right now I don't care.

Let me ask You a very simple question, but 1st let Me once again say....I believe I was the 1st person to say Canada sucked, and should not be hired....Yet the very same people that are now saying Canada is the whole reason laughed when I said it then....Just like they are laughing when I say now He's not the main problem....because they can't see with their own eyes.
Ok....simple Question now.....If KFP is not seeing the open targets now in a simple offense....what makes You think in a more complicated offense He will then????

That's awesome....tell Me again what that has to do with not seeing open Wrs, and not hitting them when he does????
GEEZZZZ Louise papa cheese.....old Man , and broken down Ben.....scored 20 tds with this same oc, and only 10 turnovers, and He couldn't throw very well at the end.....at the rate we are going it will take 2 years to score that many tds throwing.

The responses are exactly what I expected. LoL
It's fine. I listen to ESPN radio yesterday.....according to them.....there are no Qbs playing bad.....just bad coaches. Do You people actually believe that????
How many coaches, and Ocs will the Qb for the Giants get fired before they say....yeah....He can run, and throw far, but He is not a good Qb???
Justin Fields the same. People the number one thing a Qb needs is ....how fast can I process....how fast do I see the open guys.

I’m not crying at all, don’t be a jerk.

The positive I took away from preseason was Kennys accuracy. I could give a rats ass about wins and losses in preseason.

    HAHA yeah.

Kenny should be great against zone since that is all our defense is able to do. Brady would shred us because our defense was in zone.
Who does Kenny and offense practice against?

Obviously I agree with you, we went through this in the 49ers thread.

I’m more concerned with when Kenny gets his game right then what, still have Saturdays offense to deal with.

Pickett did 7 years of Saturday offense at Pitt and 1.5 years at Pittsburgh.
The guy won't ever get his game right.

Well We know the OC isn't good....so He will eventually need to go, but until KFP does see the open Guys, and hits them...we are screwed either way. Believe Me I've not given up on Him....., but He will do Himself no favors by thinking its all the coaches fault...., and these are the excuses He is hearing from 88% of most people.
I keep thinking of Roman from the Ravens....He built a offense specifically designed around Lamars skill sets, and what did it get Him....fired....they blamed Him for not developing Lamars passing game. LoL.

It seems this discussion has devolved into an argument about whether KP or Canada is to blame for our offensive woes.

It’s actually both. Canada’s situational playcalling has always been subpar. His play designs(formations, motions, etc) are tipping off to the defense what’s coming. More than a few of his plays are designed to get the ball to a certain player taking away KP’s choice altogether. This is a college OC with a college offense.

KP is still missing wide open receivers. Even when the play goes according to plan Kenny is just not accurate with the football.

Even if KP was throwing an accurate ball this offense would still be struggling.

If Canada was scheming guys open every play this offense would still be struggling.

This is one of those times when both are true.

Phew! I was beginning to worry that the guy who was first on this message board to denounce the hiring of Canada(which got him laughed at by nearly every other member of this message board), had indeed flip flopped!
