I don't want to see Leftwitch/Batch back next season. It think we need young former starter QBs as Ben's backup. Alex Smith (49ers) and Mark Sanchez (Jets) might be available. They have big contracts so they'll have to clear waviers to get them cheap. If they are willing to be backup to Big Ben, I would not mind either of them on our team.

If Smith isnt back with SF...he will be a starter elsewhere...too many team with a need at QB for him not to. And Sanchez??? Seriously? The guy sucks.

yeah no way on Sanchez.... Steelers would go after a guy like Hasslebeck or Alex Smith...guys who have a history of winning.

Sanchez is horrible. I'd bring back Batch before considering Sanchez.

Draft a QB and groom him to be back up to Ben. There is so much talent at QB and they are making a bunch of noise as rookies lately. Pick one up in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Please put down the crack pipe everyone. Alex Smith ain't no back up QB. He will be starting somewhere next season guaranteed. Why not just dream up some fantasy where Tom Brady gets released and the Steelers sign him as a back up QB?

Of the guys about to hit free agency... I like Bruce Gradkowski, Matt Moore, and Drew Stanton.

You can rip the idea of Sanchez as a back-up, but I think that for a least the next 2-3yrs the perfect #2 QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers is an experienced quy, who has started, who can't start anywhere anymore, who can fill in for a few games if Ben is hurt. Batch and Leftwich fit that definiton.
But, Batch is 38 and Leftwich can't stay healthy. So you need to find new guys that fit the above definition.

It ain't gonna be Alex Smith, he's gonna start somewhere. So that leaves guys like Sanchez, like Matt Cassell, like Ryan Fitzpatrick as potential backups. That just the way it is.

At this stage drafting a guy to develop behind Ben is probalby a waste of time. Nobody is going to want to wait 4 years for their turn. And should you need to press Rookie QB into service to start 3 games in 2013, you could well cost this contending teams playoff position.

Sanchez. Did lead the Jets to two AFC Championship games in a row. Thought I'd give the guy some help, because holy poop you guys are blasting him. LOL.

I don't think the Steelers want a young inexperienced qb as backup maybe 3rd string. I would take Matt Moore and draft a qb then get rid of Batch and Leftwich.

Does that mean we should try to sign Carson Palmer, Matt Hasselbeck, Joe Flacco, Brandon Weeden, Phillip Rivers or Tony Romo?

Baltimore will re-sign Flacco or he will be a starter somewhere else.
