Even IF Herbert and Allen both take a step back, you got Lawrence and a few others ready to take steps forward, so it's not all that consoling that Herbert and Allen may not be as great. You still have to contend with Mahomes, Burrows, Jackson, Tua, and a few others clearly superior to Pickett.

Go back and watch the first three drives again. You will see plenty of plays with nowhere to throw the ball. The receivers weren't open until the deficit was in double digits. That's when the misfires and missed targets started happening.

Again, there was nowhere to throw the ball on the first few drives. It's not hard to put at least some of it on Canada, too. He especially needs to create some concepts that create open space for Pickens, even more so now with Johnson out. Unfortunately, I don't think he is capable of doing it.

First of all unless you have watched the All 22 you dont know what Pickett was looking at and even if the coverage was that tight, the first few drives? Big deal.

We know Canada is awful, wouldn’t have made a difference in this game if he had a few more open receivers. What makes you think Pickett would have hit them anyway, he missed several layups.

I know kenny will be fine next week. Which will make Canada not get fired. But they really need to get rid of Canada.

that's the NFL, they are all good. it's not about one guy either. i believe burrow and mahomes lost last week too. fire the OC. tua had to pull one out of his butt to win with arguably one of the best and fastest wide receivers in football. lawrence won against a weaker opponant and rookie qb. it was neck and neck until the end. the last two years we started out with wins against two of those qb's and teams you are referring to. cinci, buffalo and this year SF. coming out 2-1 out of those openers is pretty impressive for any team. so we lost a game, it's not the first time. the sky isn't falling chicken little.

It is a big deal. In general, it is the snowball effect. That was on the offensive scheme, which wasn't good. A few more open receivers early takes some pressure off and keeps that from happening. It seems most likely that part of the issue with the missed layups was Pickett pressing because the team was in a big hole so quickly.

Tagovailoa was great Sunday. He had to pull that out because his defense couldn't stop the Chargers, not because he played poorly. He threw for 466 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. If Pickett had done that in a loss, most rational responses would be that he was taking that big step forward.

i never said he played badly but the point being it's a team game. there are other factors involved in the overall success or failure of a team.

"Chicken Little?" Because I acknowledged decent QBs still in the AFC? Oh, but if you want "Chicken Little" stats, I'll give you some. Uur own QB was clearly "below the line" and looking like he is a rookie in just about every conceivable manner? But I'm "Chicken Little?" So, are you going to claim Pickett looked good last Sunday? Decent? Hopeful? Like a leading QB prospect in the AFC?

He looked like total horse sh--. 31/46, 232 yds, 1 TD, 2 ints. He tossed the ball 46 f---g times for a total of 232 yrds. That's a little over 5 yrds per attempt. NOT CUTTING IT. Those are horrible #s. Again, 1 measly TD pass the entire game to 2 ints. Pickett couldn't put a drive together to save his life, even in garbage time. And while the OL was STILL piss poor, like last year, it's a fallacy to assert that he NEVER had any time to pass the ball. Watch the game. He did have plays where he had time to locate and pass to a target but guess what? He either chose the wrong player to try to complete a pass to, OR he missed badly in his attempt to complete a pass. His accuracy was horrid. Bad brain or bad arm? Or both?

Let's hear all the positives from the QB play last Sunday, I'm sure you can come up with an entire bevy of them. While you're at it, go ahead and detail all the steller examples of quality coaching in that game - in both general preparation and in specific game planning and play calling.

that is on Cana-duh as much as anyone. was reading about vanilla routes, no crossing short, nothing. He is a dolt, dull. He sucks. Tomlin and Rooney suck for keeping him. how is that for a dead horse?

guess what.....here comes the jet sweep! the WHOLE SF D knew it was coming.

    he sucks

Kenny CAN'T do with Tag did and has done. THAT is the difference.

NEVER have seen it, not yet.

    Offense is anemic.

I'm much more of a novice at these things than many on here but is their any logical reason why his playbook is so vanilla? What is the benefit of it? Why would that be a strategy that we are going for? Why is a jet sweep bad for us and so predictable.

It very much is a "big deal," unless winning and losing isn't a "big deal." Then, and only then, will I concede the subject not being a "big deal." Since we are all here - having taken the effort to post here, regarding our favorite team, then I am going to assume "winning and losing" is a "big deal."

So, after all the months of off-season and the month of preseason, after all those hours pouring over what we did right, what we did wrong and what we could improve, the team, the coaches - and to a smaller part, the players - came up with plays where there were no clearly open players to start the game after all those months or preparation. After all that, our best choice of plays was a jet sweep by our 2nd play from scrimmage - a play where no one was fooled, especially the opposing team. After all the "gnashing of teeth" and "howling at the moon" we came out and attempted to execute plays were there was zero confusion or indecisiveness created by the play calling.

And as you mentioned, there is a "snow balling" effect, leading to a ding in confidence by the QB and without any positive motion or momentum established whatsoever. Ater all of those months of planning, the best we could do is roll out the same plays causing opponents to laughably contend that they were calling the plays out before the ball was snapped...a multi-billion $ business, and that is the degree to which effort was applied: a Billy Bob, straw hat-wearing huckle buck scheming with a "defensive" head coach who urinates in his pants over risk assessment of offensive play calling. Congratulations. That was the best they could come up with.

Hasn't Tua been in the league 4- 5 years now?? Not a big follower of Miami but I don't think he set the NFL on fire in his first few seasons. Pickett is not a QB like him but maybe with 3-4 seasons under his belt he may be able to do what Tua did. Damn thing is I think Kenny could be older or same age as Tua??

I wasn't sold on Pickett from the get go but it takes time to develop in the NFL. I do wish he had a better OC. I guy who could mentor him and move him along in the right direction.

Context matters. In the course of that game Canada was the least of the problems. Fans are delusional if they think he would have made a difference in that game.

Pickett couldn’t hit boat if he fell out of a water last Sunday and last I check, Canada isn’t the DC. Defense played a large roll in that loss as well.

The fact that you think a jet sweep on the second play was the catalyst for Sundays poor performance shows how far off the mark you are about what went wrong Sunday. Everyone and their mother knows the 49ers run jet sweeps but works just fine for them and as has already been pointed out, the Steelers have overall positive results when using them as well.

When myself and others say Canada wasn’t to blame for Sunday it does not mean we are defending his overall track record as an OC, just that it wouldnt have made a difference last week. They were thoroughly outclassed in every facet of the game.

Canada was part of the problem. A terrible plan that contributed to the terrible start was definitely part of the problem.

Would. Not. Have. Made. A. Difference.

Know what would have made a difference? Pickett hitting an open DJ, one for a sure score and two others for big plays and possible score.

The defense making any stops would have made a difference.

Canada could have morphed into Shanahan and what good would it have done with how poorly Pickett played???

How much of KP's poor performance was based on his lack of confidence in the game plan. What you saw as concussed Kenny I saw as an unconfident Kenny. A confused Kenny.
