As a die hard Steelers fan since the 70s, I cannot tell you how much this infuriates me.

“At one point,” Williams said, “you just kind of wanted [the Steelers] to get a first down. There were all those three-and-outs and we kind of needed a break.”

    https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/trent-williams-steelers-week-1/1654569/

We’ve become a freaking punchline, one of those teams who, not only doesn’t strike fear in their opponents, but who other teams just don’t take seriously. The Niners came into Pittsburgh and had their way with us. How many times do you remember a player from an opposing team’s offense rooting for the Steelers to stay on the field and get some first downs so he could get more of a breather? This season could not have started any worse.

I would never consider one bad game to being equal to some kind of league punchline. Especially with an 0-1 record. This team can easily bounce back Monday night.

Not saying we’re a league punchline. But on Sunday we were definitely a punchline of sorts for the Niners. I don’t recall ever hearing a player rooting for the opposing team to get some first downs so that he could get a breather. Even Purdy got into act after the game throwing some shade at Peterson (who deserved it). Again, just an embarrassing start to the season. I hope the Steelers can turn it around against the Browns, but we’ll see.

    I agree it’s embarrassing.

The comment seems more geared to someone who just won a game and is relishing in the victory.

We have had bad games before and turned things around. In the last 10 or 15 years, I can remember some beat downs at the hands of the eagles, pats, etc.

The real question will be if Sunday’s performance becomes the norm. If we are still having this conversation by the 3rd or 4th game, then we do have a bigger problem on our hands.

I've heard worse by other teams....was just last year ,or before a team was saying We didn't even want to be in that game ,and we were laying down for them......I believe We beat them the next time we played.

Maybe opposing players taking shots at our team will be a wake up call. I know it would light a fire under my ass if it were directed at me.

Peterson deserved the shade, acting like a rookie running his mouth all week leading up to the game. Than getting torched 2, he is an idiot
Massive boost to secondary, just like signing myles jack. Keep bringing in these has beens for a yr or 2

I wrote that on his podcast. You know I'm a CB enthusiast. I know no CB that knows a tell, and comes out, and says it. You just use it. I believe He was hoping it would keep Purdy away from Him. There was a time thus wasn't so with Him, but that time has passed. I'm not saying He can't help us....I'm saying his best day are behind him by a few years, and His mouth is not going to help us.

I hear You, but it's actually not. Although a win, or a loss in a conference game is big. I believe We win , and will be surprised even with the injuries if We lose.

If we’re going to start 1-1, I’d rather it be by losing to the Niners and beating the Browns than the other way around. Monday’s game is much more important in the grand scheme of things.

I’m with you…I’m calling a Steelers win on Monday night! (In spite of our sucky OC ;):lolol:)

And speaking of OC… it dont matter what personnel you got on field coz he couldnt come up with a gameplan to save his life! Pickens even said 49ers were in a defensive mode they havent seen during game planning week.
Yet no answer from OC. Big Ben said he used to ignore Canada and call his own plays!

Ben even at His old a$$ age wouldn't have missed that many open players....that many times.
Does anyone honestly believe He wouldn't have been going deep down the sidelines to Pickens at least 5 times a game. LoL
We must give KFP time though . You really don't know what You have in a player in under 30 - 40 games

Ben had something Pickett wont never have, natural ability to sense pressure behind him. That my friend cant be taught. IE Pickett played 10 yrs at Pitt and still hasnt learned it. BTW Addison was a man among boys made Picketts life easy. Plus the beast of a conference he played in….ACC! Haha

I agree. 3 seasons, just frustrated right now! If a player shows nothing after 3 seasons, never will. Speaking of Cam Heyward was awful for 2 seasons, 3 year he lit it up

I think most of us looked at the beginning of our schedule and saw 4-1. Well, we got the 1 loss out of the way, so...

    See....

Under most circumstances, posts like the one @JackAttack 5958@JackAttack 5958 would fall under severe overreaction for me as this would merely be an isolated incident. However, such commentary by opposing players has been said for three years; all beginning with Chase Young stating that the Steelers ran the same plays over and over way back during 2020. Let me repeat that... though with something far more telling...

Under Matt Canada, the Steelers have only hit over 20 points in just 9 games under Matt Canada. Let me repeat that; in the past 27 of 36 games.... Pittsburgh has only scored 20 or more points nine times. Nine. Yardage?! Every team except Pittsburgh has cracked over 400 yards of Offense.... since 2020. 20... 20....

    .......

    What the hell?!?!

2021 can be a fair outlier as a severely young Offense, a talent deficient Offensive Line and a Big Ben way over the hills was not conducive to winning. 2022 though could have been different had more proficient methods to get your playmakers been used. Pat Freiermuth had a rock solid rookie season. Why not have more seam based concepts for him?! Hell, Jaylen Warren showcased he could be relied on after a great preseason. Given how the team may have known about Najees Lisfranic Injury earlier in the year, why not have more carries allocated to him. For that matter, even if James Daniels struggled some during the first half of 2022, his run blocking was still sufficient enough. Why not run to that side?! Even the beginning of the season showcased this; evidenced by the Steelers not using their sixth Offensive Lineman in Darnell Washingnton in running plays sans a handful of times. Why isn't he more involved?!?!? Yes, the Tight End position is one of the most difficult positions to adjust to from college to the pros. That said, such a arduous transition period can be alleviated with plays that can not only help the player (Darnell) but also the Offense.

To conclude, this may seem like non sensible rambling to many of you. Since 2008, I have seen both good and bad of Steelers Offense. For that matter and, for those of you who have known me since 2016, I have never been one to lose control of emotions after such games. They happen; it's the NFL. If anything, San Francisco is, like so many of us knew, are a Championship Caliber Team. That much is indisputable. However, not only is the manner in which the Steelers lost pissing me the hell off more and more looking into the All 22 with each passing second, the reasons behind the manner in how the team lost themselves are the literal foundation of it all; a poop show of a foundation now spanning three seasons.

Should this continue not just during Monday Night but the result be the same that same Monday?! Glenn Thomas better have more input into the Offense. Not in October, not next week. Those following seconds after the game.

Canada will have been given every opportunity by then. Y'know what they say about dead weight....

    Cut that crap off.

Sorry to disagree but its an early must win. The only positive if you want to call it that is that we lost to an NFC team. Mondays contest is different. Against a divisional opponent who just clobbered the bungles. Lose this one in the same fashion and the alarm bells are going to go off more then after the shelling we saw on Sunday. Going down 0-2 in the division is already behind the 8 Ball.

Do I think they are going to turn it around and play better? Well it can't get any worse so theirs that. Hopefully they have a GAME PLAN this week.
