It's game one. It's one game. Yes, it was bad, very bad. However, it's a long season. Things to keep in mind:

    1. Even Super Bowl winning teams have been thrashed in the regular season. (No, I am not saying the Steelers are SB ready). I am just saying that in the NFL, these kinds of games happen. They just do. It happened to Tom Brady twice in Super Bowl winning seasons.

    1. 2020 Buccaneers (11-5): Lost 38-3 to Saints (35-point loss)
    2. 1994 49ers (13-3): Lost 40-8 to Eagles (32-point loss)
    T-3. 1976 Raiders (14-1): Lost 48-17 to Patriots (31-point loss)
    T-3. 2003 Patriots (14-2): Lost 31-0 to Bills (31-point loss)
    5. 2012 Ravens (10-6): Lost 43-13 to Texans (30-point loss)

    2. In recent years (with one major exception), the Steelers have improved as the season progressed. Not every team does. They will get better.

    3. Joe Burrow was even worse than KP yesterday. Again, just demonstrating that it can happen...even to an elite QB. (Yes, yes...I Know, Joe has proven it already and Kenny hasn't) But that doesn't negate the point.

    4. This is NOT the pattern we saw from Kenny Pickett at the end of the regular season last year or preseason. So I am going to give it a couple more games to see if this was an anomaly.

    5. Also, the Steelers did not suddenly become THAT bad. And NO, they have not already been that bad...so blind haters...take it somewhere else. The Steelers will be better as the year progresses.

That being said...next week looks like another tough test. The Brownies battered Burrow.

It isn't so much that the team got beat. The manner in which the Steelers got beat is another topic all together. How many more times will this Offense let this defense rot and die?!

    For better context.

Mind you, this game was a lot more on Kenny Picketts.... whatever the hell type of performance more so than Matt Canada's play calling. That said, Canada himself is now effectively an issue. Why?!

As the above tweet alludes to, problems you can solve. Issues you cannot. Canada is an issue and the only way for an issue to be resolved is to remove it from the equation all together.

Yes, the offense under performing is a pattern. That is a legit complaint/concern. However, even that can be partially explained through an aging QB past his prime and then a New QB/rookie QB last year. I am willing to give it a few more weeks before I join the "fire everyone" crowd.

I personally am not on the fire everyone crowd. Never have been and, barring extreme circumstances, never will be. I will say though that, among the aspects that went wrong yesterday, some of the major concerns remain there. Canada however is the constant.

Here is a great article detailing another unusual call in a long list of calls under Canada. That said, this is not just Canada...

Pickett himself has to play better.

Some perspective: The 49ers are really, really good. There's a reason they're on the short list of SB favorites. And when a team that good gets rolling, the game can get away from you fast. We're not the only team they'll make look inept.

And it's very early in the season. This is when you would expect sloppiness, mistiming, bad decisions, etc from a young team.

Facing the Niners for week one was throwing the team (and especially Kenny) into the fire. But fire can forge steel if the quality is good. It makes it stronger after the fire. If the quality is bad, it exposes its flaws and weakens it. Time will tell.

That said, Canada has to go. He should have been fired 2 years ago. If he's allowed to remain, and we miss the playoffs, or have less than 10 wins, then whoever decided to keep him needs to go too.

This game had absolutely zero to do with the low hanging fruit yall clamor for after every game. The plays were there to be made and big ken choked over and over and over again. Blaming the oc is lazy and disingenuous

    Kenny missed several chances. Yes.

But the running game sucked out loud. Our line was porous. The receivers weren't getting much separation. There was literally nothing about the offense to feel good about. And that has been a trend for a long time. We have one common denominator.

Or are you happy with the direction this offense has been going in? This isn't the 1970s. You have to score points.

this is not what ROCKY BLEIER would say. I know him. He knows how far we have fallen. It's not that we are THAT bad. We are just......average. and it appears it will stay that way for a while. as long as the Leadership is in place, things won't change much.

    0-2 is quickly coming.

    correct

Kenny sucked. early and often. he was stiff, missed open guys, he FLAT OUT sucked. When you can't convert on your first 6 - 7 third down, most likely, you will lose. the early pic to DJ, well - DJ slipped - he may have made that grab.

Notice how I stated that Pickett deserves much of the blame for the loss. Nothing disingenuous about that being pointed out already multiple times over; long before the quoted post no less. Pickett has to play better; no bones about it. That much I had, have and will continue to make clear about it.

That said, read Alex Kozoras article on one of Canada's play calls. Ho many times will this happen?! It is one thing that Kenny Pickett had a horrible game (as I and Alex have pointed out). It is another to add something like that into the equation.

Let’s see, 36 straight games without gaining 400 yards on offense with four different quarterbacks (Ben, Mason, Mitch and KP). But it’s never the OC’s fault according to some posters.:facepalm:

Edit: Kenny sucked yesterday, but the OC is a huge problem and should have been fired in the off-season. Any offensive ineptitude this season is squarely on Tomlin’s shoulders for failing to do what he should’ve done in the off-season and bring in a real offensive coordinator. Mr. Saturday is far from being a real NFL offensive coordinator. But he is offensive!!!

Y'all? Let's not act like there hasn't been plenty of blame thrown at Kenny, myself included, but acting like the O.C. isn't part of an ongoing problem is completely dillusional. Two things can be true, the Steelers can have a bad quarterback AND a bad offensive coordinator.

    This.

For that matter, many of these areas of concern have been addressed in the Offseason. Kenny Pickett was the problem yesterday. However, Matt Canada continues to be an issue.

I'm not in the "fire everyone" crowd, I'm in the "fire Mike Dumblin" crowd. You can argue I'm the President and CEO of that crowd. Been saying it for going on 5 years now. It's simple, really. No coach in NFL history has NEVER been held accountable for his job more than Dumblin has not. It's like he's on some kind of cloud, and nobody can touch him or say anything about him.

His coaching is NOT reaching his team. He is NOT developing his players. He is NOT developing his coaches. He is NOT providing the competitive atmosphere that this City demands, or should demand. The media washes his balls, the front office washes his balls, and many in the fan base wash his balls. For what reason? Look at the roster he inherited in 2007, and look at the roster he has built now. Night and day difference. The losses are adding up. The missed playoffs are adding up. He has WASTED the prime of generational Hall-of-Famers and wasted extremely talented rosters during his tenure. He has divided our fan base, our City, and our sanctity of well-being. The Steelers are a religion to many people, and yet Dumblin has turned the Steelers from the best Organization in the NFL to one of the most AVERAGE organization's in the NFL.

As reported last season, he has single-handedly used NON-LOSING seasons as collateral against winning CHAMPIONSHIPS. Many of our younger Steelers fans have taken the bait, too...hook, line, and sinker. The question again is, why? There are no participation awards in the NFL. In the end, we're NOT all winners. In Pittsburgh, you either win the Trophy, or everything else is a failure. Without accountability, we have nothing. It's time to start holding Dumblin accountable for his record...no, correction, it's PAST time.

The bottom line is, Mike Dumblin has HIJACKED this once great Organization. He has hijacked our team, our front office, our fans, our hopes, our dreams, our goals, and this entire City. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can claim he didn't have a chance to succeed, either. He's had MORE than enough time to prove himself. He's not a bad guy or a bad person or an evil person or any of that...he's just an AVERAGE coach who has a coaching job with a SUPER Organization. Not good enough for me, so for the love of God, tell me why in the **** is he good enough for you?

When Canada started out, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Given how Big Ben sadly was not the Big Ben of yesteryear, an Offensive Line that was seriously talent deficient and a young Offense as a while, I didn't really count 2021 nearly as much. 2022 though was a different story.

Yes, the Offensive Line still wasn't very good; horrific even during the first six weeks. However, who you have on Offense is who you got. An OC has to make that work. For example, why wasn't Pat Freiernuth used more often down the seams?! What about Pickens running post routes; something he did little of?! Seldom usage of either Warren or Harris (until the final six weeks) having runs to the strong side of the Offensive Line (often the weak side) didn't help either.

Fast forward to 2023 and the same problems that have cropped up even during the early weeks of the NFL Season of 2021 are still here. Somehow.. someway... they are still here. As you stated, no Big Ben, no Mitch and a Kenny Pickett who clearly had a day to forget.

Canada though still remains a constant; a constant pain in the ass when it comes to the simple things. With any luck, Glen Thomas (the Offensive Assisant) can have more input in the Offense sooner rather than later. Canada is already on a short leash; further reinforced via Tomlin in his Presser yesterday.

If it does not work this season with Canada... it simply is not going to work ever. As saying goes about dead wood... gotta chop it off.

That was one of the sloppiest uninspiring complete ass beatings I have seen but none of it is on any of the coaching staff. Got it.

If that is the case we have assembled the worst roster in NFL history.

That’s why although I’m very repetitive (3 in 13) this has been an issue for a long time! I swear half the board thinks we played in a Super Bowl 2 years ago or something. Mind boggling.

It is very tough to make in-game adjustments to the offense when they keep going 3&out. Simply not enough plays to analyze. Yes, it is frustrating and it was hard to watch that game. But games like this happen against top tier teams, especially when WRs keep slipping, over-running routes, KP was off bad on several throws. This also effects the defense.

Ok, let me humbly give credit to Mill....his nicknames are great! Here is his write-up on your boy Mike "Asslin"....LOL

Stillers - 49ers Postgame Analysis and Grades
September 10, 2023 by Still Mill

    San Fran 30, Stillers 7..... Sep 10, 2023 ………Game # 1

Stillers - 49ers Postgame Analysis and Grades

The Stillers hosted the 49ers to open the season. Sure as shoit under Big Mike Tomlin, the team came out in a complete slumber, stumbling and bumbling their way throughout the first 29 minutes of the game. Down 20-0, they mustered a TD in the waning seconds of the 1H. But, of course, the vaunted Steeler D was of no match to the SF in the 3Q, and before ya knew it, the score was 27-7 thanks to a long TD jaunt.

    Grades:

QB: KP got the start and had about as rotten a 1Q as a QB can have. Complete p!ss and vomit. He managed to pile up a fair amount of Dong yards, mostly in garbage time. 2 putrid INTs and a bevy of scattershot passes. F

    RB:
Harris – did little, aside from a decent run late in the 1H. C-

Warren – also did little early on, and piled on a slew of slop catches in the 2H. C-

    WR:
They didn't do much until the 2H, when SF was playing a softee prevent. C-

    TE:
Pat FryBoy – dropped a TD pass late in the 2Q, but then grabbed one a few plays later.

OL: Overall, the line got dominated and buttwhipped the entire 1H, and most of the 2H as well. These 5 pudpullers should be humilated during film review. D-

    DL:
Heyward – he limped off with like 2 minutes in the 1H. His stat line: ZERO solos, ZERO assists, and zero ANYTHING. He did jak fugging shoit the ENTIRE 1H. He rolled the DONUT. All talk, and produces exactly jak shoit nothing. F-

Lowdermilk - actually harassed the passer and had 2 tipped passes. That's 200% more than the Scammer did despite Scam being in on far more snaps.

    ILB:
They got gashed far, far too often. Poor as pizz. D-

Watt – Had 3 sacks, but some of that was in garbage time in the 2H.

Highsmith – at the half, the $17M per year he-man has ONE solo, and had done exactly jack fuking shoit. Worse, the 49ers CONTINUALLY ran the ball around or just under this stat-monger, and Big Alex was continually nowhere to be found. Witness the 65-yard TD jaunt in the 3Q, which iced the game, and there was Big Alex, standing around and PAD GROPING, doing exactly jak shoit nothing in the process. Sure, in the 2H, he piled on some slop stops and padded his stats. He was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND in the 1H when this game got out of hand, and he did jack shoit in terms of harassing the QB. F

    DB
This crew sucked well water most of the game. Softee cushions, inept reading of the QB and receivers, and shoddy tackling. D-

    Spec teams:
Harvin – Had 2 good punts, mixed in with some barfy ones.

OC: Matt Canada oversaw a rotten, moribund offense for the first 28 minutes of the 1H. Had this offense practiced AT ALL since the last preseason game? Didn't look like it. F

DC: Austin apparently spent all summer and the week leading up to this game, doing......exactly NOITHING. No preparation. No schemes. No taking advantage of a home crowd and confusing the young QB. Vaniala pablum at its worst. Starting the game -- 4 possessions, 4 scores totalling 20 points for SF. Complete barf. F

HC: Last season, ya heard a lot of blather about "what a great job Big Mike Tomlin did the last half of the season." What ya didn't hear, is how he P!SSED AWAY the 1st half of the season. NOBODY gets paid for doing HALF the job.....except for Mike Asslin.

Sure as shoit, Asslin starts out this season with his team being hopelessly unprepared, befuddled, and confused, showing the intensity of a local knitting club. The vaunted Stoogelin got bent over and reamed by Shanahan in an ugly, embarassing fashion.

The kicker to this collossal failure occured in the third quarter, down by TWENTY, and punting the football in SF territory. Are you f----g kidding me?? This was a cowardly, chickenshoit decision by Stoogelin, and sure as shoit, SF ripped off a 65-yard TD run soon thereafter. Thank you, Mike Asslin, you chickenshoit loser. You weak, spineless little beehotch. F-

Synopsis: Another season opener frittered away, amid an avalanche of mistakes, boners, por preparation, shoddy game-planning, and a woeful lack of intensity. At home, no less. Unacceptable.

We went 3 and out on our first 5 possessions. Never had a chance to get the running game going. That was largely on big ken. He looked no different against the 49’ers then he did against the jets. Their cornerback has outside leverage so kenny should be throwing inside. Instead his pass goes to the outside. There were plays to be made on every possession and Kenny crapped the bed over and over again. Now some dimbulb will come along and claim I hate Kenny blah blah blah. Nothing could be further from the truth. The simple fact is those very same people crowned him the next franchise quarterback after a couple preseason games playing against backups. I want to him to succeed, but he hasn’t shown anything against an nfl defense. Hopefully this was just a bad game against a really good defense, but only time will tell.
