Please don't say scat game anymore. That's kind of a sh!tty phrase.

Yeah his "scat" game might have some limited success in the Pop Warner U 10 league but try it in the NFL and your offense will be a big pile of steaming "scat" left all over the field.

Yes, I'm aware you claim to have done some innovative coaching. We have been over this before, so no, it's not a serious question. it is a lame attempt to try to prop up a weak argument, implying that anyone who doesn't see things your way just doesn't understand the game. It is dishonest and adds nothing to the discussion.

Speed and elusiveness are effective for good running backs in any sort of scheme. If you don't know that, you don't understand any part of the running game. See? I can play that game, too. The difference is that the facts actually support my argument. One thing anybody who follows football should know is that running backs tend to make an impact more quickly than other positions. They don't need years to figure it out. McFarland has done nothing for three years in the NFL, thus earning the label scrub.

I understand that a back with speed and elusiveness is an asset what you are referring to as a scat game, but McFarland hasn't really shown much elusiveness as a pro. Even his speed mostly shows up in a 40-yard dash time. It hasn't shown up in a regular-season game at all. It has only shown up sporadically in preseason. Given the expertise you claim to have, how do you not know that?

Argumentative is not the word I would use

Now I did not count Scribes responses but I think you are good there

I'm guessing it is more than that. I'm just amused by people falling for fool's gold.

I think you might be overestimating how many people are falling for any of the general thought/post/theory/rational/irrational

Its not part of making the roster. A 1/100 chance to return for a big play is better than walking back to the sideline making a "good decision" in a preseason game when you're fighting for your job. 100% the coaches want him to take it out in the preseason. The field position doesn't matter bc the game outcome doesn't matter. They want to evaluate how you return. If they felt like the decision making on what should be a touchback and what shouldn't be in a game situation, he wouldn't be out there when the games matter.

Players make poor decisions in that very scenario often enough. Also, he didn't just make a poor decision. He didn't do much with the return, either. He's not elusive. Just fast.

    Yes

But of the hundreds of thousands of board members that’s a pretty small sample group

Yea, I knew it worked lower levels, even major div.1 college, but I meant in the NFL.

Best answer in the thread. They’ll find out and they should, would be gross negligence and foolish not to see what you have in him.

Also sends a ****ty message that if you work hard and improve your game and embolden the traits Tomlin looks for in a player that he will reward you by having you ride the pine :goofy:

He already received his reward for improving his game. He made the 53-man roster, which didn't happen at the start of last season. This isn't high school or college. This is a pro game. They shouldn't sacrifice giving themselves the best opportunity to win just to reward a player for doing what a professional is supposed to do. Players don't get playing time because they worked for it. They get playing time because it helps the team win.

It reminds me of this scene from Ted Lasso. For those who didn't watch the show, the head coach wants to play an aging veteran because he thinks the guy earned the right to stay in the starting lineup. His assistants want him to bench the aging veteran because he is too slow and he is hurting the team's chances to win. The relevant part of the clip starts about 50 seconds in.

Funny. I never suggested cutting him, though I wouldn't mind if they found a better option to return kickoffs. I just don't want them wasting snaps and touches on him unless there are injuries.

What exactly will be considered a wasted touch, in your opinion? Anything less than a 5 yard gain? 10 yard? Any touch at all?

I can't wait for McFarland to prove all the doubters wrong, once the regular season begins.

    Prepare to EAT CROW.

We haven't see what Canada has in mind for designing plays to exploit McFarland's speed in the preseason. It will only be a few plays every game, but if the right LB is guarding McFarland it should be a game changer.
