Hell... if Spencer Anderson improves via learning behind both Cole and Herbig should Cole get hurt.. that alleviates the position in Round One. Gonna sound crazy to say this but.. a Wide Receiver in Round One shouldn't be out of the question if they are special. Malik Nabers from LSU is a very enticing option but given LSU's Track Record in recent NFL Drafts... fat chance of that happening. :lolol:

we have talked about this. The balamce between need, talent, CAP, all culminate, but keeping a line to protect your QB is essential, so C is likely a position they take a long look at.

They definitely stuck with Green for far too long during his rookie season. The offense immediately improved when they replaced him with Hassenauer. He wasn't great, but he was at least competent.

Was his being pushed down on his @ss that was the the catalyst for drafting him? There is no excuse, none. But like you stated it's water under the bridge with Green doing a cannon ball.

Anytime you can upgrade a position i'm all for it. Cole is an above the line player. Cole is signed through 2024 so center should be a high priority in the draft. Unless they feel he can man the position for another 2 to 3 years? He is only 27.

Here is a story from The Tribune-Review.

Just excited to get this season started and see where we go, lol, but that's an interesting point. I really like our WR right now, and except Robinson the other 3 are pretty much locked in for the next 2 or 3 years. I say Robinson because his contract cost may be a bit high, so do they do a deal with voidable years or cut..not really concerned just a phase of the game.

My point is we are not going to be able to keep them all, so the draft process can always take you in a direction you are not suspecting. WR in the 1st? with and if Pickens rises, CA3, and yes even DJ? Not off the table at all.

    Watt and
McFarland got his chance last year, but Warren overtook him on the depth chart. Whether it was because of injury or production, it doesn't matter.

Like any position where you keep 5-6 players on the active roster, you need pretty much constant additions. This year we added Robinson and getting Austin back as like an addition, plus some FAs spare parts which we didn't keep. So, yea, I could see adding another WR in the draft next year, although, the way things stand right now, I'd go C, DL 1st. We need a beast to replace Cam at this point, using a 1st round wouldn't bother me.

I agree, and as someone recently posted nearly everyone is signed through 2024. That can change as Cam may decide its time to hang it up, an injury, someone's performance drops, but overall Omar has and is building a team with a window to get the job done. He does not seem afraid to make the deals necessary to better the team and that is something I hope he does not lose. Nearly half of the 53 roster is new, including 6 rookies. How they come together is yet to be determined, but is looks like it will be fun to watch.

Yea, he was drafted in 2020, that was 3 years ago. So he hasn't got any "opportunities?" Why is that? Because the few he has gotten, he hasn't done anything with from what I can tell. Maybe the staff feels the same way. They chose to run that "chug along Charlie" Snell over him. A total plodder. So after 3 years, the question is "why?" McFarland has a fast 40 time? Let's see it on the field, not see him fall down every time he tries to make a cut, which is what I've seen so far.

Pouncey going down I truly believe altered the outcome of our SB against Green Bay as our back up got manhandled. So not having a real backup there isn't good. Your center goes down you are f'd.

I'm not worried about it, if MacFarland doesn't cut it they will get another RB to replace him.

The fact that out of 100's of RBs available, he's the best choice they got bothers me a bit, like really?

There are 31 other teams that probably has a UDFA or late round pick as their third RB, MacFarland outplayed all the other guys they had in camp, hopefully he won't play much.

Well, I have to admit they did find one of the kind or RBs I'm talking about in Warren last year. I'm just a little surprised - having watched McFarland - that they haven't found another guy better than he is either late in the draft or a free agent. I know we had in some little guys, 180 LBs or smaller, in but none of them cut it or escaped injury.

The TE position would have been a complete disaster in 2021 without Pat. Vance McDonald had just retired, Eric Ebron was TE #1 and ended the year only appearing in 8 games catching a total of 12 passes. Zach Gentry was TE #3 and was still learning how to play the position.

2021 Depth chart for the Steelers at TE.
    upload_2023-9-7_17-59-42.png

As much as I will always claim that not taking Creed in the 2nd round after Najee was a huge mistake, the TE room would have been a complete joke without Pat Freiermuth.

Funny story about Creed Humphrey: Did you know that Creed is left handed? When he came in for the Chiefs Rookie Mini camp, Andy Reid told him he was going to have to change and start snapping the ball with his right hand. Patrick Mahomes later found out about this and told Creed and Andy that he could continue snapping the ball with his left hand, and focus on his blocking, and that he "Patrick" would make the change and get used to having a left handed center. I think this decision by Patrick Mahomes has worked out pretty well for the Chiefs...... At least this is the story my Brother, who is a huge Chiefs fan told me.

Maybe Kendrick Green should have been snapping the ball with his Left Hand??? :)

I think we’re fine at center, Cole is solid. More worried about LT still. Don’t know how improved Moore is and Jones is apparently not ready.

agree with the concern with Peterson but I think he may have just enough left to keep Porter junior from being rushed in too soon.

Backup QB is not ideal but it looks like the Steelers are trying to be frugal. The Steelers are putting all their chips into KP staying healthy. Neither backup can save the season, maybe Mitch can get us a high draft pick if he does his Mitch thing.

Barring injuries to key players, we have a roster that can/ should compete with top teams.
