yes, I was wrong. I owe an apology to several of my fellow fans, friends here. He earned the starting job. Jones could not win the starting job. I wish him the BEST!!!

I hope it shakes out that way because Chuks for all his size and strength is a teddy bear. I'd love to see play angry and block someone into the turf.

Only if Chuks gets injured. Also Jones has to show he is ready to take the left tackle spot. Moore then will be the swing.

My prediction is Dan Moore will be the starting right tackle next season.

I'm not so sure he "won" anything. He got the starting job, but over 50% of it was because they are doing that "rookie" thing to Jones to keep his head from getting too big. Is Moore truly better than Jones is right now? I'm not convinced. They are making Jones "earn" the starting job is all. Let's see Moore let a few of his classic "Oops, I did it again" where the DE just blows by him untouched to the QB and see how long he keeps the starting gig.

You could be right. Up to now, Chuks has been "OK" performance wise: known as a pretty solid pass protector but "below average" rush blocker. At the time of him signing his current contract, many fans thought Pitt paid too much, however, right now, he is being paid on the lower end of starting OTs in the NFL. But next year, Chuks $10 million annual salary is huge compared to Moores scheduled $1 million deal (if I have the #s right). Maybe they will offer Moore a new deal to play RT? Being paid a mere $1 mill for being a starting OTs is really low.

I don't think it is simply just the "rookie" thing. Jones didn't show enough to win the starting job, simple as that. Jones didn't play awful or anything, but he played like a guy that needed more reps and refinement before he was trusted as a starter. Especially when we don't HAVE to throw him out there early on bc we have no one else to play there.

Moore showed improvement too, so he definitely earned his spot. But just because he earned the week 1 spot, doesn't mean that poor play during the season won't lose him the spot. Jones has the talent and draft pedigree that he won't be on the bench for long. Will it be an injury? Poor play? He will see the field eventually, and it will likely be up to Moore to hold him off as long as he can.

We will have an interesting decision with Chuks next year though. He could be released for 8.75 million of savings (3.08 million dead money). Do we extend Moore at a lower AAV to play RT and use the difference to better our team elsewhere? Do we sign a vet swing tackle for a season or two and let them compete with Cook for the swing tackle role? Lots to consider and its a decision for another time.

The thing is, you need decent depth at OL, this isn't a Colbert team anymore, a team where they didn't put enough resources into the OL (in draft picks and FA and $). Although many thought we overpaid Chuks on his current deal, that $9 mill is bottom shelf for a starting OT now. If they don't mess with Moore's deal, you are talking only $1 mill for 2024. Add all 3 OTs contracts up ($3.7 for Jones) and you are only paying $13 mill for all 3 and that's less than most teams are paying for 1 OT. If the ditch Chuks do you risk being bottom of barrel at OT if you have one injury?

We could keep all 3 OTs, in Moore, Jones and Chuks and have depth in case one goes down. And we still have Anderson and Cook It sure would be nice to have legit depth at OT for once.

I believe Moore has " more size and strength " than Chuks...Read an article where he really " hit the weights, and training " regime...And came in a lot stronger, and better shape..For what that's worth...But, Yes if this continues...Chuks will be the off man out with that contract

The writing was on the wall: Unless Jones came in and "clearly" beat out Moore, he wasn't gonna "win" the starting job, period. Pitt loves doing the "put rookies in their place" technique, especially to high draft picks. Ben only started due to injuries and all he did when he got in there to play was go undefeated all season. And yet they had no plan of starting him it would seem.

Really....I believe Moore, and Green started day one.
People just admit some of You were wrong about Moore. He has shown improvement every game....You will be beat sometimes....it's the NFL....it happens, and Yes as much as they have invested in Jones He will eventually play.....we have seen this with everyone they have invested this much in whether the guy in front of them is better, or not. Jones will play eventually for at least 3-4 year even if He sucks . That's how The Steelers role. Before people start crying.....No this doesn't mean I think Jones sucks.....I think He will be good.....I'm just pointing out what the Steelers, and most organizations do when they give up that investment.....they hate to be wrong.
Also He doesn't play for Pitt.....He plays for the Steelers.....Pitt is in the other room. LoL

Don't go too crazy, you may want to see how he does in the regular season. Good news for Moore is that he may get a nice tune up in week 1 if Bosa is out.

He wants a monster contract in the tune of Aaron Donald with a flood of upfront money. IDK if they are going to cave by Sunday.

Also Kittle has a groin injury and may miss the game.

No easy win this team still has powerhouse players and are on the top shelf with others in the NFC. But I do feel even if the two out were not out we still should secure a win. Solid test for a 1st game.

I agree with all of this, and so I just don't have understand why the 49ers are favored by 3 points for the Steelers home opener?

While it would be great to have 3 starting caliber OT's, that isn't always an option. Would Moore or Chuks be willing to play a back up role when they could be starting elsewhere in the league? Probably not. We would likely need to add another draft pick at the position, or develop Cook/Anderson into a quality back up option. If we can get Moore or Chuks to take a back up role, awesome... do that. I just don't see them wanting to do that.

That was a different owner, GM, and coach. Also, it was a quarterback, not a left tackle. Plenty of rookies have started for Tomlin. There is no actual evidence that they went in with the intent of Jones beginning the season on the bench or the team wanting to put rookies in their place.

Kind of like Mason Rudolph not wanting to accept 3RD string QB job....until he didn't have much of a choice. Moore or Chuks could end up accepting backup roles, depending on what else was seriously out there. A lot will depend on how this season goes.

correct - Moore beat him out, looked better - whatever you want to call it. He apparently, as of today - gives us our best chance at LT. I thought Jones would come in and blow it up. He apparently has not , so far.
