1st song I learned by Mastodon....the Banjo type riff at the very beginning is what made Me say....wait ....what is this....LoL

Heard this on Deep Tracks yesterday (Dylan's version of Ballad of a Thin Man - Mr. Jones) and forgot what creative lyrics Mr Dylan has/had. Pretty slick with the Band backing him up. It got me thinking about the "other" Mr Jones by Counting Crows and wondered if any cross inspiration since Dylan's name pops up in the 2nd tune? No other overt similarities though. Anyhow, I've copied both below - very different tunes of course but I like both of them a lot.

 

OMG....not Counting Crows.....I played with a singer that would have loved nothing more than to be a Counting Crows cover band. I liked them at one time....now I change the station if they come on. LoL

 

I saw Warren Zevon above and reminded me of this song. So cool but sad.

I was in a priest cover band for a while. To this day I cannot listen to JP at all... Lol

 

This is the only song of theirs I'm familiar with - bought a Best of CD with this song on it and ended up giving it to my brother - he's a big fan. I just thought there might be some connection regarding the Mr Jones thing, especially with him saying he wants to be like Bob Dylan. back to manning the Steeler TV Map thread.

I was big on them for a period of time but now I don't care if I ever hear one of their songs.

 

I dug the Stones, saw them twice but COME ON MAN!! Hackney Diamonds, what the hell are they and what the hell are they still making albums for?? After Some Girls album that was it for me. How many fans would be pissed to go to a Stones concert and they only play music made after Some Girls?? I do want to check out a few tunes just to see how they sound. Modern technology should give them a needed boost.

I generally don't like the new music the older bands put out. For these guys to be 80 it's amazing.
