I could see them doing that for at least some of the games as long as the other receivers are healthy. I'm not sure they are sold on McFarland returning kickoffs. Despite his speed, he hasn't really done it well. He made a very poor decision to bring out the opening kickoff against the Falcons.

The coaches and Pickett seem to trust Olszewski as a receiver. That has value. Don't get me wrong. I would have rather they kept Muse or Gentry in that spot.

I have McFarland behind Gunner has well. King would be the hand I'd put ahead of Gunner on returns.

King has only returned a couple of kickoffs, one each season, during the last two years. He did do it quite a bit earlier in his career with the Chargers. I imagine Austin would be ahead of either of them on punt returns.

Austin is definitely ahead of them both. But that's besides the point. Gunner is simply expendable and I'd cut ties. He simply doesn't bring anything to the table that's not already being met by better options.

Probably no big name players, they like to carry 6 million or more into the season.

I like our roster so much compared to recent years,
barring injuries we have added quality depth and players that are
gamers. Enjoy playing the game of football and hopefully play with urgency
each and every game. Here we go Steelers here we go!

Yeah, some contingency money there for sure. All of our main/impact players are signed until at least 2024. Maybe we actually see a big in season trade. Is there still a carry over effect from one year to the next?

Just asked that in the Gunner restructure post. The totals from sportrac are a little less, but pretty close at 12.4 million. I don't necessarily see any signings, if someone goes on IR they may make a move if someone is available, the bucks will be there.

Nice signing. Adding Anthony Brown as well. At any time another guy can take these guys if they add them to their 53, but it's nice depth to have. Brown is capable, has had both good and bad moments and some injuries, but could easily replace Pierre at any time, as could Carpenter in his role as a 5th inside LB and special teams ace.

Teams generally like to carry $6-8MM during the season for injury signings. Teams can opt to roll unused amounts over, but must use 89% of their allotted cap space over a four-year period, and the league as a whole must use 95%, per CBA guidelines.

Off topic, but looking ahead...TJ Hockenson just signed the largest TE contract in history, 68.5 million (42.5 guaranteed) 17.5 years average. He has 4 years, Muth 2, but statistically they are about the same. He has 2 years under contract, but like Alex would likely be looking to cash in, if he stays healthy that's the starting point. May go for less, or get more, but that right now is about what it is going to cost to sign him.

I get the rollovers and know the CAP is fluid in that way. i still do not understand the 95% as technically the cap amount belongs to the players. I do not have the link, but it explained the % the players get, different types on insurance, benefits (not covered by League and law), retirement, etc. After all that is deducted the CAP amount is set for the year. The amount deducted for those purposes is all included in the % agreed to in the CBA, the list was quite extensive.
