What are the rules for the practice squad? I thought they had to be young guys...isn't Fehoko a veteran they signed as a FA?

Good to know...thank you. I stopped watching football (all sports for that matter) in 2020 and just started back again last year. I guess I missed that.

Kahn is taking his time with the practice squad. Colbert always seemed to be first.

I hope Perales makes it to the PS, I think he has some potential.

I didn't think teams could submit their Practice Squad players to the NFL until tonight at 6PM. Right now cut players are still clearing waivers.

The first step is cutting the roster to 53 players, and then there is a 24-hour period where other teams can place waiver claims on those who were waived or can try to sign veterans who were released and not subject to waivers. Once the 24-hour period passes, those players who were not claimed on waivers or signed by other teams are eligible to be signed to practice squads. And in general, it's a free-for-all at that point, very similar to the end of the draft when teams are permitted to sign undrafted rookies. Here is a rough timeline that governs that process:

    • Tuesday, Aug. 29, 4 p.m. EDT: Deadline for all teams to have their rosters at the 53-man limit. There are two categories of players: waived players (players with fewer than four years of credited NFL service), or termination of vested veterans (players with four years or more of credited service). Vested veterans can sign with any team. Waived players are subject to the claiming system.

    • Tuesday, Aug. 29, 7 p.m. EDT: Teams will be informed via NFL email of all players who have been released.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 30, Noon EDT: Deadline for teams to submit claims on any waived players.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1 p.m. EDT: Teams will be informed of any players they have been awarded under the waiver system. Once notified, each team has one hour to notify the league of a corresponding removal of a player or players from their 53-man roster to make room for the claimed player or players.

    • Wednesday, Aug. 30, 6 p.m. ET: Deadline for teams to submit their 16-player practice squads to the league. The league will post each team's practice squad in an email to teams by 8 p.m. the same day.

Not a full vet minimum, but not bad either. Not as easy as some believe, hear some PS guys line up in several different positions to prepare a team, but how long are the practices and how many days, and they do not travel with the team, not a bad check.

The Gentry cut still continues to be a mystery.

Sweet. The old Belicheat move of signing someone from the team they're about to play.

IDK if its so much a mystery, they pretty much did this last year but Conner was the 3rd TE, and Watt was the FB. Its basically the same system, just Conner filling 2 roles, which frees up a roster spot. I personally think an active Gentry might bring more to the team than Gunner, I think Muth outside brings as much as as a 4th WR, but what do I know.

I thought he would make the 53. It was surprising but I believe they see Washington coming along faster then expected.

Everyone keeps making that inference but how quickly Washington is progressing shouldn't be the factor on keeping a solid blocking TE who is fairly cheap over an unknown guy you are putting on the practice squad. Makes little logical sense other than my favorite reason the wasted roster spot.
