What do you want to see in the second preseason game?

I don’t care about a win or a loss, but one thing I’d really like to see in this game is Pickett throwing at least one…ONE…deep ball! That’s one of the question marks about Pickett that needs to be answered. Canada’s blasé play calling has Pickett throwing check downs and short to intermediate passes. The first preseason game was more of the same from last year. Pickett looked sharp, but still no long ball (40+ yards in the air). Come on Mr. Saturday, turn him loose and let’s see what we’ve got!

 

He does need to show it at the pro level, but Pickett had no problem throwing deep in college.

 

Agree. I think he’s capable of doing it but I’m wondering if Canada is capable of designing some deep ball concepts to provide him with opportunities. Maybe Thomas can help with this.

 

Another thing I’m hoping to see is some JPJ lockdown corner play. Hopefully, the calf injury doesn’t keep him out again.

Question....Do You think He's (Canada)calling different plays for KFP, Trubisky, and Mason.....as far as the route trees???

 

I think the playcalling is comparable for all three, but it seems like Mason (and even Mitch) is more comfortable with deep passes. Maybe that’s it. Maybe Pickett is not as comfortable chucking it deep. I think one thing he’s got to do this year to take the next step is to demonstrate that he is capable of taking the top off the defense. If he can do that and continue to pick defenses apart with his short to intermediate passing game, the sky’s the limit.

 

I agree, but actually....We don't know what they maybe telling him on the sidelines.

As I said in the thread that @blackandgoldpatrol made of the good, bad and ugly, not seeing JPJ was tough. Like, truly disheartening to an otherwise stellar Draft Class debut. Hopefully that ankle can remain healthy enough for him to make a major splash come Saturday.


Even better?! Buffalo has one of the most dynamic passing Offenses in all of Football; spearheaded by Josh Allen. I am certain that JPJ will get tested early and often!

 

i want to see the o-line play step forward and see guys in different positions preform well in those new spots. that only strengthens the team. canada's offense put up 27 last week. they are not building a bombs away offense here. we won't truly know what it looks like until the start of the season. they are not going to tip their hand yet so fans can pick at it and san fran knows how to defend it game 1. right now other teams don't quite know what to expect and that's a good thing.

 

Dominant run game and no significant injuries.

 

Run game!! Lots and lots of talk about Pickett and the pass game but it will be meaningless if we don't have a decent run game.

And for STD I want Mason to light it up

 

First and foremost no major injuries.

Calvin Austin III working with the 1st team offense as well as Broderick Jones.

Porter Jr taking the field to see if he is ready for prime time. A lot of hype behind this kid most already seeing him as a starter.

Sing along with Mitch having a better outing then 0.0. And spare me the Mason hype.

Heyward said our offense is vanilla, Candaduh is VANILLA and Tomlin / Rooney are the culprits......until they prove me wrong.

 

AND I want to see Jones with the starting unit. We know what Dan Moore can (and cannot) do. Want to see Jones first team reps.

 

1. JPJ get some first string time.
2. Finally see the three safety look.
3. See anyone but Green at center.

 

I wanna see every offense for the Steelers light it up and score touchdowns.

I wanna see every defensive unit get sacks and interceptions.

I want a successful running game.

I want the defense to clamp down on the run.

 

I want to see if the vendors have cold beer

Guessing all of us want that every game. With only 3 pre-season games I'm not sure how long they leave starters in for 2nd game???? I want what you said for sure in the first qtr., maybe 2nd but I would assume the second half is for players on the cusp of making it or not. Don't think we'll be lighting it up in the second half.

 

I want the steelers to work more on their rushing offense in this game...I don't talk to run everytime but just put more an emphasis on that for this game

Can't recall but in 2008 at a pre-season game I think I paid 7 dollars for a warm beer. To be fair, I drink my beer after being in the freezer for 22 minutes. And yes, I did a trial and error to get the coldness of beer just right for me.

I do want to see Porter and Kaze and Keanu play in the secondary!!!

I want to see Spencer Anderson play center!!

I want Jones 1st team reps at LT and Moore 1st team reps at Rt….. or vice versa, just someone better than Chuks.!!

I want to see Gunner targeted 7 times and back on Punt return duty. Hakeem, white & Byrd have shown nothing!!!

I want Fehoko to get a lot of reps, he needs to show something or he isn’t going to make it.
