Glad me and you are thinking the same thing about Ryan McCollum. For that matter, I hope Ryan sticks for he not only has the size but the experience as a Center coming out of College. All Ryan needs to do is to continue to string together good practice after good practice then follow up with a great showcasing in the Pre Season.

If he can do that, his spot on the Final 53 will be that much greater. That said, I also would not be surprised if the Steelers elected to look around for one as well.

Hey lookie a major well known sports magazine is prominently saying that if there isn't a backup quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh there should be.

    Well!!

Mitch having a passer rating of 0.0 vs. a 124.3 in Mason Rudolph per ESPN will cause that! Hell... even I thought Mason's days were done as Tanner Morgan was accomplished at the University of Minnesota. After Friday Night though.... Morgan should probably ready up his walking papers while Mitch needs to have a bounce back season. Kinda important that he does.

I liked what one guy posted on twitter as I saw same thing

Gentry looked over to see if Darnell needed help and quickly realized he can move onto the next blocker

Liked what I was hearing, sensing, and now seeing. There’s just a Steeler energy that you can’t quite put your finger on but love. Where’s it been? Regardless now is now. Those LBs are just tensing waiting for the snap. Each group on the team just has this youthful energy. They’re so n edge like giant cats. I like I like! Something is happening here. Been so long since I could say that. Go Steelers!

The way you phrase that is problematic. I get it. I assume anybody who is paying attention gets it. It isn't a difficult concept. Just because someone disagrees with your flawed take doesn't mean they don't understand it.

It's a weird hill to die on. The "only care what they do with the Steelers" hilla. Mason Rudolph blows and anyone who knows anything about QB play knows it. There's a reason why 31 other teams felt that they had 3 better QB's than him in the off season.

The only difference between the two is that if we cut Trubisky, he'd have an NFL back up job tomorrow. If we cut Mason, he'd never play in the NFL again.

They just extended Mitch for 2 years to soften the amount they owed him for this year, if they tried to trade or cut him the cap hit is 10 million, like it or not MT is your back up.

Sorry man but I don't agree with this at all. I just watched the replay and of the three times Pickett broke the pocket, two of them he was purposely rolling to the side of the open receiver. Both resulting in a first down throw on the run. Once to his right and once to his left which was a good throw. The third play, Diaby was coming free up the middle so Pickett side stepped to make him miss and then had to break the pocket to his right to get away from the defensive end. Sometimes I think we nitpick too much because it was clearly something he did last year. IMO, he didn't break the pocket unnecessarily.

If Kenny goes down, I don’t really think it matters who the QB is between Mitch and Mason. Probably won’t be winning many games with either of them. Unfortunately Mitch has that contract has, so we are kinda stuck.

ultimately it’s this. Specially if he’s out a long time. But at least Mason is steady. Mitch is so inconsistent. Off the bench, He can look ok for a game and then single handedly destroy us with a ravens like performance the next.

the only one dying on that hill is Mitch. He’s been regressing since his one good year in 2018. People have been waiting for him to duplicate that sort of year for 5 years now, and he’s only gotten steadily worse. It’s obviously mental. Maybe Nagy destroyed his confidence. But pointing to his brief success in Chicago is misleading. Sure he can still play better and keep the no 2 spot but so far Mason has looked better.

A discussion on QB 2 vs 3 vs 4 is not a controversy

    It’s clickbait

Not at all though. Mitch just isn't as good as the year he had in 2018. It was his best year, and he is closer to just a steady back up than he is the player he was in 2018. Nobody should wait for him to duplicate it, as its not going to happen. He is however a pretty solid back up, and someone a large number of teams would be more than happy to have on their roster sitting behind the starter. The first few weeks of 2022 was rough, but that Steelers team wasn't ready to be good. It really only became "good" because KFP got a lot better, won some clutch games, and as a team we just ended up winning a lot of close games that could've gone either way. A bad break or two or a missed throw or two and we finish the season 6-11 just as easily as we clawed back to 9-8.

There isn't "keeping" the No. 2 spot, since there isn't a competition. It's Mitch's spot when healthy. To be honest, Mason looked atrocious in Tampa the other night outside of one ball. The deep ball to Austin. We KNOW Mason has a nice deep ball, but we also know the other stuff he has consistently shown too. He has zero pocket awareness, can't hit the easy throws, can't process the reads properly. He looked like someone who belonged out there with the practice squad guys and dudes who will be cut in a few weeks. Its just his level of ability in the league.

I don't hate Mason Rudolph. He's tough as nails and more than willing to put his body on the line for the team... but he's awful. Dreadfully bad. Mitch had a couple incompletions and a WR drop turn into a pick in a preseason game... It's going to be fine.
