I just like the fact that the pass to Pickens was to the middle of the field. Finally, we have a QB taking shots to the middle of the field again.

    I mean...

For Clevelands sake... he better be $230 Million times better than last year. A lot of money to show for and did nothing against a batch of grocery baggers.

Ya' can make guys bigger. Like Pickett's bigger now. Casey Hampton was alllllways gettin' bigger. Plaxico was too small so they made him bigger. Mr and Mrs Bigger had a baby. Which Bigger was biggest? The baby was a little Bigger.

That throw to Pickens was an absolute laser. He had a window of just a few inches to put the ball where it needed to be. That was a Burrow, Mahomes, Josh Allen type of throw.

Thanks for the welcome. I like Taco Bell tacos too but they've gotten pretty dang expensive and small. Sorry for the pun. Puns are not a form of humor. They're a form of abuse. I'm not really a new person. I'm 67. I have seen a lot of Steelers football since Dad used to take me downtown to sit on $5 wooden bleacher seats and watch guys who played for $40,000 a year.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Minus the one run, Mason has poor mobility in the pocket and gets too flustered under pressure. Doesn't seem to be able to deliver the ball accurately on the move or if he's not set. With time he can certainly float a deep ball, but that's really his only asset. He seems to play scared and is not good at working through his progressions.

Plus, Mitch has a better win loss percentage and passer rating as a starter.

Thanks. Respectful is always good. With all respect. I'll say that used to be the case 3 even 2 years ago. I used to go on and on about Rudolph's three big failings being the happy feet, not wanting to let the ball go when it was time to let it go, and the laser vision - not looking guys off.Now I see great improvement in all those areas while Trubisky just remains the same old Trubisky year after year. But what I see as superior in Rudolph is what the Steelers drafted him for. He is a Roethlisberger style quarterback from a Steelers style college offense. He is a pocket-downfield passer with the big play capability. Where Trubisky bails out and scrambles, Rudolph steps up in the pocket, buys the time, and completes the shot. I'm just real tired of watching Trubisky fail when they need three points to win the game. As for stats, their stats are virtually indistinguishable so it doesn't make any sense to me to keep them both. The difference is 8 million bucks that could be spent picking up a lot of help.

Both of our backup QB's suck. It's that simple.

    With all due respect...
    • Rudolph still struggles with sideline throws, as evidenced by his very first attempt last night. Austin was wide open and the throw wasn't close.
    • He does still hold the ball too long. That even happened on a sack last night even though he was playing against scrubs.
    • Throwing deep is normally Rudolph's strength, but the bomb wasn't perfect. Austin had to slow down for it. It just didn't matter because he had beaten the defender so badly.
    • No, he's not a Roethlisberger-style quarterback. He does not thrive when pressured the way Roethlisberger did. He certainly doesn't have comparable arm strength or mobility. He isn't a challenge to bring down when the pressure gets to him and he really doesn't have much of a history of making spectacular plays out of nothing. Honestly, other than playing for the same team, there really isn't much that is comparable between the two.
    • When you compare their career statistics, no, they are not indistinguishable. Trubisky's are better in almost every category even before you consider their rushing numbers.
    • Regarding a previous post, the numbers do not support your claim that he is "way better" than Trubisky. They certainly don't support your claim that he is "way better" than most backups and even a few starters. There is a reason why every other team in the league wanted nothing to do with him and he had to come crawling back to the Steelers for the No. 3 job.
To be fair, despite all this, I wouldn't mind seeing Rudolph get a shot at being No. 2 for the next preseason game. He had the advantage of playing against even worse players last night, but he did play better.

And the reason Trubisky's stats and Rudolph's are indistinguishable is neither of them has had a chance to show anything in the hobbled-down offense that was designed to keep Roethlisberger from getting hurt by getting the ball out of his hands quick on dink and dunk passes because his arm was shot. There have been very few downfield shots to be taken the last few years, and no big plays in the playbook at all. Ya' can't be a contender in the NFL getting 13 or 19 points a game. If the Steelers are ever going to win another super bowl, it's time to open up the offense,. Pickett it looks like the guy for the job, and Rudolph looks like the backup.

Plus they haven't had an appreciable offensive line and now they do.

See? He struggles with sideline throws. And you say he's not just like Roethlisberger. And they haven't been long downfield sideline throws like Pickett to Pickens. They've been 10 yard quick outs. I shuddered every time I saw Roethlisberger try to throw one the last couple years he was there. Also real tired of watching Najee get slaughtered on dump-offs in coverage because there hasn't been a Steelers receiver in the flat nor more than 15 yards down the field. But regardless, yeah, that's all I'm asking, give Mason a chance to show his stuff. He was that guy in college. I was watching. PS when did Roethlisberger have mobility?

This. They are both bad. If I had to put one in the game it would be Trubisky but I’d be holding my nose while doing it.
