    1. Our pass rush will be an absolute monster

    2. This offense will be extremely fun to watch

    3. The hype surrounding George Pickens is real

    4. Kenny Pickett's yr 2 leap is real

    5. God forbid Mitch Trubisky is needed at any point of the season

    6. Quite possible that an actual competition at backup qb is brewing

    7. Quincy Roche maybe on the outside looking in, but is not gonna go away quietly

    8. SOME TOUGH DECISIONS ARE GOMMA BE MADE at wr and d-line

    9. The regular season can't start soon enough

    Agree on all points.

I would add, the O line is still the weak point of the offense. New guys need time to learn each other. Game 2 will be their opportunity to play together for a while.

Put K Green wherever you want, but he helps this team the best on the bench. Hope we have a better backup center

Kwon Alexander is here to play. This guy was all over the field last night.

On the WR decisions, understanding every WR drops, but when you are in competition you can't make THOSE drops. Both Butler and White did themselves no favors last night, Gunner actually did by throwing a block to free up McFarland. I think it was Deke or Moats that spoke about Gunner blocking several times last year (in an earlier video). As there was no real punt or KO return game last night Gunner may stick around, lol.

Calvin Austin touched the ball 4 times for 96 yards and a TD. When you add the 38 yard PI that he drew, he accumulated 134 yards in only 5 plays. That's the kind of explosive play he can bring to an offense. Just being on the field will draw the defense's attention and open things up for the other guys.

This is the case for every team!...This is still crazy that Tomlin was able to win 3 games(in 6 games) with a QB of this caliber in 2019!

Quite true but he looked unsure, sloppy and just plain sucked. We have two more games to see what he is like but he looks terrible.

good summation b&g. i think you can add DB's to the tough decision scenario. both ILB and outside LB at the backup spots.

Our starters played one series against backups and that’s proof Pickett has made a huge leap?

I don't know about a huge leap but Pickett did look comfortable and decisive and that's better than sh!tting the bed against back-ups, no?

Mind if I join you @blackandgoldpatrol@blackandgoldpatrol on the Ten thoughts?!?! :drinks:

    1. Calvin Austin III.... the year was well worth waiting for. That 4.12 speed that internet sleuths unearthed during his combine may have been onto something after all (Official time though is 4.32). Seeing him in both Kickoff and Punt Returns will be a treat without question.

2.) Kenny Pickett is ready to punch his Sophomore Ticket into stardom. Too optimistic?!?!.... perhaps but Kenny was definitley much more calm and composed this time around. That with better protection and some new weapons should easily see him flirt with over 4000 passing yards.... or close to 4000.

3.) The entire 2023 Draft Class that played balled the hell out! Doubly so by Keeanu Benton and Broderick Jones Jr. A shame though Keeanu got hurt but thankfully Tomlin didn't mention him in the Injury Report.

4.) Kendrick Green may have to ready up his walking papers by Preseasons end. I also want to give Ryan McCollum another shot as Tanner Morgan effed up the Center to QB Exchange that nearly gave Tampa excellent field position. Regardless though, either Ryan rebounds in a big way or Pittsburgh DESPERATELY needs to scan the roster cuts for a notable backup for Mason Cole. However and, I will say again; the Steelers failed Kendrick Green more than Green failed them. Dude simply was not a Center.

5.) Is there a Kicking Battle?! B.T. Potter did some rock solid work on Kickoffs. His first Field Goal was an almost, as was his third, but he did make all of them. Should he continue to improve and impress... that could be an interesting discussion. However, a lot will need to happen for him in his favor.

6.) Missed Joey Porter Jr last night. I imagine I was not the same one. Same goes for Cory Trice Jr. Those two would have made a massive difference. James Pierre though man.... ouch... dude got abused all last night. Needs a bounce back in a big way.

7.) Kwon Alexander is a certified thumping stud. Dude loves to hit. Cannot wait for Buffalo where the intensity will be even greater. Cole Holcomb looked okay as well. Still need to see more from both at Pass Coverage though.

8.) @mac daddyo@mac daddyo may have been onto something regarding Elijah Riley. Definitley didn't see him coming at all. Perhaps with another Rick solid outing against Buffalo, Riley can claim that starting Slot CB role.

9.) After his Rookie Season, I knew George Pickens had tremendous potential heading into Year Two. After last night, like Kenny, Pickens is more than ready for a Sophomore Surge of his own. This may sound too optimistic but... an All Pro consideration isn't out of the possibility with Pickens' rapid ascension. He is Kenny's and this Offenses new WR1. George Pickens simply offers so much more for a much greater gain.

10.) Jaylen Warren and Anthony McFarland both handled themselves well last night. For the Ant Man, it must have felt good to contribute in a greater capacity this time around even though he has seen exposure to the game before. Definitley like his chances of making it to the Final 53.

    Correct.

DeShaun Watson also played one series against backups... and did nothing. Against the Commanders backups no less. For me, it was confirmation that Kenny is ready. Next week will be validation.

Just a couple thoughts after the first preseason game...

I think the offensive weapons on this team are scary good and there is the potential for a top10 offense this season.

The defense is very talented but not playing as a team yet.

Kenny Pickett has to stay healthy.

    1. Our pass rush will be an absolute monster .. Should be and hopefully good rotation to keep all fresh

    2. This offense will be extremely fun to watch ... Damn sure better be. I kind of enjoyed having a 20 pt lead albeit scrimmage game

    3. The hype surrounding George Pickens is real ... Cool heads prevail

    4. Kenny Pickett's yr 2 leap is real .... Only 1 series, arrow pointing up, keep his nose to the grindstone

    5. God forbid Mitch Trubisky is needed at any point of the season ... I'm happy with our QB room. Hope they all improve more

    6. Quite possible that an actual competition at backup qb is brewing... Not a bad thing stay hungry

    7. Quincy Roche maybe on the outside looking in, but is not gonna go away quietly. .... I was wondering where he was last night initially, then he made some plays

    8. SOME TOUGH DECISIONS ARE GOMMA BE MADE at wr and d-line .. ABSOLUTELY TOUGH DECISIONS glad i don't i pull aPatriots and hide them

    9. The regular season can't start soon enough[/QUOTE] AMEN!!!!!

always love these blackandgoldpatrol you are already in midseason form

There is no fight and I did enjoy it. However; I’m not christening anyone anything after a series against backups. Doing what should be done against future grocery baggers isn’t impressive to me.

Plus with 17 games a year 5000 yds is easy.

Danials and Herbig can handle the center duties if needed. Its not like Green was going to be the back up :lolol:

Even Ben was a bit ticked off hearing that they were using him as a Full Back. In line with one of the worst draft picks.
