Im not going to make any judgements based on one game, other than to note how shaky he looked. It wasn't a good performance.

That being said, I think his performance should make us appreciate how KPs development was, and still is being handled.

I know that there was a lot of discussion about how soon and when KP should've been handed the reigns, but I think the Steelers almost nailed it perfectly (I would've preferred they wait until the bye).

Case Keenum should 100% be the starter in Houston. It makes no sense to throw that young man into the fire and having him start from day 1. It isn't fair to him and could very well ruin his career before it even starts.

The organization can be just as important in a young QBs development as the player himself.

True but it's also very important to see how a young QB can handle adversity

As you said, it's just one game.

CJ Stroud will be fine imo. Just a learning experience for him. He has the tools and mindset to be a Franchise QB. It's up to Houston to build that around him throughout his Rookie Contract.

Don't under-estimate the leap from the college game to the NFL. These guys dream of doing this and pour their entire lives into it. I think it's perfectly normal to be nervous and unsure as a rookie. He's got an entire franchise on his back.

The thing that stood out in the two Thursday games to me was that there absolutely was no respect or fear of the ground game by teams. The Pats just came after Stroud early and often. Teams with rookie QB's are going to need that strong ground game to take pressure off

I remember watching John Elway's first NFL start against the Steelers. Every one laughed at how bad he played. On his first play from scrimmage he lined up behind the left guard and started calling the signals. He went 1 for 8 for 14 yards and a pick, plus he was sacked 4 times. Finally he was benched for Steve Deberg who brought the Broncos back for an ugly 14-10 win. So you never know how any young QB will turn out.

He's saying that because it's on the Steelers part of the board.....instead of NFL part of the board, and it's not Steelers related.

Jack Lambert intimidated Elway to the point that he almost decided to go and prepare tax returns for a living…

“He (Lambert) had no teeth, and he was slobbering all over himself. I'm thinking, you can have your money back, just get me out of here. Let me go be an accountant.” -John Elway

It’s one game on a really bad team. Can’t get too heated on it. Kenny waited a few games and still threw 3 picks in his first game (didn’t even play the full game) and tbh really didn’t start looking promising until later in the season. Peyton Manning took a beating his rookie year losing 13 games and throwing 28 picks.

Sometimes you just need to be out there learning. I think the fact that we went with Kenny and let him learn on the field was good. Let him get roasted a bit and see if he can work through it and learn from it. I think that type of approach is fine for someone like Stroud. He’s gonna take a beating early on. He did so at OSU too (with LOTS of media hate in Columbus to boot) and got through it just fine to be an EXCELLENT college QB. He has the thick skin for it. Let him develop.

As both are more than double the guaranteed money of Pickett, I assume their expectations are much higher.

    Bryce $37,955,071 and CJ $36,279,243 4-year guaranteed

    Pickett $14,067,905 4-year guaranteed

Trey Lance was supposed to be a franchise QB. Being overrun by Mr. Irrelevant :lolol: Gave up 3 1st round picks as well as a 3rd to move up to get him

I'm glad we have our franchise QB.

Personally I don't care. I hope they all flop. They aren't Steelers...

Again, no need to panic for either Young or Stroud. Plenty of time for both. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Imagine how burned John Lynch feels about it. For that matter, both Mike and Kyle Shanahan. Oof man... just oof. Lance just cannot stay healthy.

Agree about how good Kenny Pickett looked in the Preseason as a Rookie though. Even then, dude had the intangibles. Leanring the game took time... and still take some as it takes more than two years to do so. That all said, Kenny is much better now in Year Two than in Year One.

People can say what they want about Pickett (limited talent, low ceiling, blah, blah, blah) but at no time in any preseason game last year did he look like he was lost and didn’t belong. I’ve heard many say that Pickett wouldn’t have been drafted in the first round if he’d come out with this year’s crop of hot shot QBs. Truth is, I’d take Pickett over ANY of the quarterbacks that came out this year, including Bryce Young.
