This team needs some kind of spark and I think Mendy could be the one to provide it. We're going to need an extremely effective running game to keep Dalton and Green on the sideline. He only has 34 carries this year so he will have fresh legs and you would like to think he has something to prove. Last year Mendy had a tough, gritty performance vs cinci where he showed some nice power on a short td run. I know he's not liked by many on here but this team needs a shot in the arm desperately and I don't care who it comes from. All that said, I hope it's more than those fumbles that got Mendy in Tomlin's doghouse because if not he looks downright foolish with the BS he lets the young money crew get away with.

Well it's obvious that Dwyer isn't the answer and I've been a Dwyer supporter all season.

Yeah I really want us to have a "feature" back ya know? A guy that people will tune in just to watch. Since the bus we've not had that. I just feel at this point we are basically "settling" for Dwyer. Although the line is really crappy in the run game it would appear.

I like Dwyer too but Mendenhall should be our starter. He was what? 40 yards from three straight 1000 yd seasons and he has proven in the past that he can carry the load for this team. If he were to have a good game it would breathe new life into this team and if we get into the post season we would have a fresh, confident workhorse RB with two quality backups. I know this is all a longshot but I'm running out things I can think of that would get this team out of this slump.

Doesn't matter if you put Jerry's kid in the game we will still find aaway to lose, this team just not have the will or desire to go any where period.

I think you're making a valid point. Maybe Tomlin should give Mendy an opportunity to salvage his career in Pittsburgh.

You think if Mendy would've got to play today he could've helped in pass protection late? We sure as crap needed it.

I think one of the things that helps in pass protection is having a running threat which freezes the defense on play action. We're just not getting it done in the running game.

Jack, turnovers are our problem. If we didn't turn the ball over we would have won this game and the one against Cleveland.

No thanks, lets reward the players that have got us this far,
maybe just maybe we could be more innovative with our play calling?
Play action always use to be good for the Steelers, Screens, draws,
traps, Mendy quit on this team, so no lets send Mendy home, I will
lose with people that want to be here.

One of Mendy's greatest strengths (at least before this season started) was his ability to pass protect. Of all of our backs, only Redman is comparable in that area.

Agreed. We also ran playaction at entirely the wrong times.

Earlier on I thought Haley's playcalling was great - he played it long term; over a couple of games setting up defenses to expect one thing then throwing it something different. But last night... ugh. And I'm not putting it all on Haley at all - execution, heart, injuries, all those things as well. But playaction is effective when a) you have the right back in and b) it's called at the right time.

As much as I dislike Mendy's overall attitude, I think that if he can come in and play motivated, he can provide a spark. I've always said that he is our most talented back, and his problem is that that he doesn't always play with the proper motivation. He should be really motivated to showcase his ability during week 16 of a contract year.

What do you expect Dwyer to do? Our starting RB had 9 touches........9

Doesn't matter who is running if they don't get the touches. Still no commit to running it, and at times we were getting some good chunks of yards yesterday.

tough to say he isnt the answer when he only has 9 carries yesterday and 8 last week.

Hey, I like Dwyer and we do seem to get away from the running game too soon at times. But he had 9 touches for 22 yards. When you get the touches you must take advantage of them with the RB roulette we've been paying his year.

I think Dwyer is ok but not a feature back. He doesn't have the speed. We need someone with both power and speed.

What facts or common sense is telling you that Dwyer or redman are leaps and bounds above mendenhall? The fact that neither one has proven they can handle the load as a feature back should tell you something. But I guess the standard is the standard huh? 9 carries 22 yards versus Dallas and 16 attempts 49 yards against Baltimore. Then if you run him 5 times in a series he needs a breather. I think redman and dwyer are fine as backups but they are not ready to be feature backs.

Well that's not Mendy either. He's got the speed part but definitely not the power. He runs around would be tacklers while Dwyer runs over them and I prefer the latter.

This is such BS. I have seen countless times where Mendy has ran over a defender or broken through tacklers. Mendy has enough power to run over a DB. He's not going to run over a LB but very few RB's will and that shouldn't be the defining factor whether a RB is successful or not. Besides, I have no idea what games you've been watching, but Dwyer isn't running over anybody, nor is he going around anybody. He's been pretty much useless
