Is the jet sweeps play has too much hate?

The steelers had 5.5 yards per run last year with this play.



I have a lot of problem with the Matt Canada offense, but the jet sweep may not be one of the problem despite all the hate for this play...

Nothing wrong with having it in the arsenal, but to use it as a staple is pathetic.

But no - nice play to have when needed, especially with 8 in the box. Obviously the play has been tipped in the past with varied success.

I was listening to some analyst (former NFL linemen IDK) on Cowherd (despite that I took note). They were talking about newer NFL QB's and their success or lack there of, one of several things came to mind about Canada. The guy said anyone can call a play, but not everyone is a good offensive game planner. To be a good planner you need the intellect and cunning to prepare for the variety of different D's you face weekly, know the personnel on both sides of the ball, and work that plan to your strengths. That seems generic, but so far Matt's game planning lacks the skills needed at this level. That may be in part because the players he has were so young and inexperienced, or lacked the talent or development to do much more. His 'JV' attack has been critiqued by players, and others in media, so we will see. I read a report this week (can't find a link) that stated the O still looks very weak and "JV" (my term), I guess the proof will come once the season starts, the talent around him is real..and good, does he have the talent to plan a winning strategy?

 

Thank you, my stupid mind could not think of that play lmao. I would not say every third play, but if I was a betting man I would call it buy the 3rd play in nearly every game, lol.

I’d like to see it about 10 times a season instead of maybe 3 times a game. I think the real problem is Matt Canada doesn’t use a ton of different type plays therefore his playbook seems very limited. Hopefully that really changes this year or it will be a long season for this offense.

Running a reach-around draw on 3rd and 20 also has positive results, just no first down.

Its not the jet sweep itself that's the problem, its Canada's timing and overuse of it, specially when our passing game had been near the bottom of the league for most of the season. Yeah, 3rd and long and we run a jet sweep....just brilliant

 

that 5.5 is misleading. Rams were right behind us with 5.2 on those jet sweeps and they were last in the league in total offense.

Unless the light bulb miraculously comes on for him this year, i hope Canada is gone
